FIC outs Pineview-boasting SVE00 netbook
FIC's just launched its new Pinetrail netbook, the FIC SVE600. This little guy (which measures 10.1-inches) isn't exactly ground-breaking, but that Atom N450 is still new enough to spark a little interest, right? The SVE600 boasts the aforementioned 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a choice of an either up to 500GB HDD or an up to 32GB SSD, plus WiFi, BGN, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth WiMax, and HSDPA. You'll also get your choice of either Windows 7 or Linux OSs. There's no word on pricing yet, but we'll let you know when we do. There's another beauty shot after the break.

That looks quite atractive compared to some other models I have seen.
@MoonWalkerCTE yes, I like the color
Yes, because it has MATTE SCREEN!
Hooray to the return of common sense.
@Information Central "Common Sense" has nothing to do with the display technology used. Glossy screens are generally cheaper to make and have a better contrast ratio than matte screens. Matte screens on the other hand typically have a better color gamut and are viewable in brighter conditions. They also however are more expensive to produce. So it becomes a choice of the manufacturer to decide which technology to invest in because they are going to go with the technology that the majority of their consumers are going to use. I personally prefer matte screens myself and I had to have my MacBool Pro that I used custom ordered in order to get a matte screen, with some makers that is simply not an option.
@Information Central On paper, the FIC SVE00 netbook loos pretty much like any other recent model. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, a 10.1 inch. 1024 x 600 pixel display. 1GB of RAM, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, and the usual array of ports. It comes with a 3 cell, 4 hour battery and optional Bluetooth, WiMax, and 3.5G connections. Not too shabby indeed: http://bit.ly/fic-sve00-details
The design is a little too bold for me.
@Kyle Krcmaric
bold is not the word I would have used.
@Unverified User
Me neither. This thing looks awful.
@Thunder82 i'll second that... the screen is not the same size as the body, the use of primary colors make it seem like it was made for children, and it looks like it has a huge brink on the underside...
Poor design aesthetics all around.
THE SCREEN LOOKS PUNY
@xKNGx
a girl with a big butt makes her boobs look smaller
same concept here
I don't find it appealing at all. It looks like it was made by Fisher Price.
More bezel please.
@MrBridge
The bezel makes room for more electronic cowbells!
@MrBridge
I know its like . . . you THINK the screen will have less bezel when you see it closed, because of how it doesn't actually FIT the footprint of the other section . . . but no!! the screen still has bezel equal to or greater than other netbook sized items. I wonder who actually designed that and THEN who said they would sell it?
Resolution of the screen? Why do these articles so often leave that crucial spec out?
WSVGA 1024 x 600: Not interested
XGA 1024 x 768: Mildly interested
WXGA 1280 x 768: Very Interested
@SolonLysander read the link... -_-
Equipped with a 10.1-inch screen and bog-standard 1024×600 resolution...
Because Engadget still thinks it's the early '90s, where we used terms like CGA, VGA, Super VGA...
State the resolution, IN NUMBERS, and be done with it. What are you saving otherwise, two characters?
Is it just me or does that LCD look really out of place there kinda frankencomputerish...
That screen is terrible. Why would they make it smaller than the bottom portion? They had the ability to make it just a tad larger, and make the monitor flush with the bottom half. Terrible design choice.
and more smoke pots. Gotta have cowbells and smokepots.
This is pretty horrible design. The bezel, as others have already pointed out is awful, but then add to that the bezel around the keyboard area, necessary because they have a smaller lid than a base... so with the large base you don't even get a bigger keyboard. The only positive seems to be a larger than normal touchpad.
I hate to say it, given that they're offering Linux and all, but unless this thing is dirt cheap, I can't see anyone being happy with this.
That has to be the most painfully ugly electronic device made in the last 10 years.
What does BGN mean???
@mec31 208.11b/g/or n.... standard wifi compatibility modes...
This is one ugly lappy...
NO WAY
Yech. HP and Dell got it right on their 10" models with sleek aesthetics and edge-to-edge keyboards utilizing every millimeter of the form factor.
go back to design school nublet >.<
-make the screen bigger or atleast put a speaker strip or buttons on both sides to take up the missing space
-we like our devices with only 2 colors, and yellow isn't one of them
Why 1GB memory? That will slow down the system.
Make it two at least...
nice but I like the Hp mini netbook Im going to buy myself a pink netbook soon though and don't know what brand, probably toshiba. and Ive read reviews that the MSI has terrible sound is that true from anyones experience?
