Averatec's Lookie is medium power in a small package
Right now it's Korea-only, but it's Averatec's Lookie laptop stuffs some decent power into its tiny chassis. Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 250GB HDD, Windows 7, HDMI port, and six hours of battery life. We're a little bit light on the other details, but we're assuming they fall in line with other thin-and-lights. At a touted 0.5 centimeters, this sucker's thin -- beat that, Adamo XPS -- and pretty light at 1.4kg (just over 3lbs). The catch to all this -- and of course there's bound to be one -- is the 799,000KRW price, which translates to about $711 locally.

0.5 Centimeters? Wow, that is thin! Impossibly thin, in fact!
@Gad Get
isn't it crazy how it LOOKS quite a bit thicker than .5cms?
@jmedia315
No, not really.
@jmedia315
I 2nd that, 0.5 cm no way, maybe excluding the screen.
@Gad Get Given that 0.5 cm is exactly the height of a USB port, and this device is shown to be thicker than its USB port, I'd say that spec is off by a bit. Heck, the Vaio X looks way thinner than this, for that matter.
0.5cms thick? Really?
no.
Should it have been 0.5 inches?

scroll down about halfway. it's 2.5cm thick.
@pomokey
Bleah. I want my 10mm netbooks no later than Christmas 2010!
@pomokey
+1 for you. Engadget, do your research more accurately before making bold statements like 'this sucker's thin'.
Cmon, Ross, do you really think they're being truthful about the .5cm? You realize that's 5mm, right? It was either a typo or a blatant lie.
@aznofazns Also, it looks like this thing only comes with Core 2 Solo based on pomokey's link. In other words, fail for $711.
@aznofazns I didn't even notice the Core 2 Solo thing. I was so distraught at the 0.5 cm thick thing, that I had to find out. It just looked so much thicker then that in the picture.
it took a grueling 30 seconds of research to find the answer (click on the manufacture's link in the source article...) I didn't even look at the rest of the description after finding the thickness.
Maybe 0.5mm for the screen alone, judging by the picture. What size screen is it? Looks like a 11"er to me.
0.5 cms thick is amazing.
Data Entry India
Maybe they have no sense of what 5mm is like. The rest of the world uses goddamn METRIC, for Jesus Christ's sake. Even He uses centimeters now.
i'm guessing from now on.... don't trust aving ?
The Koreans are holding out on US. I say, we invade and take their Averatecs, take their cute women who love to show off electronics at trade shows, and all their bulgogi and kimchi.
how many inches? ** thats what she said**
no seriously how many inches
@tc4101 11.6"
the monitor that is...
meh too small. 13" will be perfect
what's more embarrassing: that they made an error like this? Or that 8 hrs after it's been pointed out to them, it's not been fixed?
@rtdunham
He was probably being facetious.
The translation was wrong on the us aving site. The korean site states that is about .5 cm thinnner than an average notebook
too bad ross miller isn't like joanna stern who actually reads, responds to, and admits mistakes in her columns
Half a cm is quite impossible ! This would be 5mm or less than a quarter of an inch !
If it's really 2.5cm, well this is not really impressive ! It's only 1 inch thick !
