Next week's Apple event to be iLife / iPhone OS 4.0 / tablet trifecta?
We're realistically no closer to knowing the outcome of next week's Apple event than we were a week, a year, or a decade ago, but rumors are obviously congealing around the mythical tablet that users, fans, and media have all but willed into existence recently -- and our buddy Clayton Morris says that's indeed a part of the story. Morris reports having spoken with a source at Apple this morning -- prior to the company's invites going out, interestingly -- who said that the event would focus on a new version of iLife, iPhone OS 4.0, and naturally, the tablet.Loosely speaking, you can see how these would all tie together pretty nicely: the seemingly "creative" theme of Apple's invite rolls into a new version of iLife, and the announcement of a tablet could have implications for how a suite of artsy tools gets used. Rumblings that the tablet is underpinned by a new version of iPhone OS have gone back months, so that would give Apple impetus to tease it at the same time the tablet's shown off -- sans new iPhone hardware, possibly, which the company has done before. It's also possible that Apple will open source its entire catalog of software and shut down, buy an island nation, or do nothing at all -- but in fairness, there's an awful lot of logic to what Clayton's saying here. We'll know soon enough.

what if they purchased the couriour from microsoft?
like they saw the demo videos, microsoft didnt feel they could really back the product and even though apple is a competitor it would just make more sense as their product. idk its just an idea (maybe i just really want a courious)
@epompeii
I hope this post was sarcasm. Seriously. Do you guys actually think MS does ANYTHING interesting? The Courier was a goofy idea which MS probably spent about 30 seconds thinking about before moving on to Windows Mobile 6.6.
What would Apple 'buy' from MS in this case? Most of what the courier showed were weird scenarios which are alien to 99% of users.
Designing a shoe? Seriously dude? Why do you want a Courier. The iPod touch is enough for most people. The Courier screams "niche".
@Wesscoast i want a couriour. im about to go to college, imagine how well that would work for virtual textbooks (take note kindle). It would actually be functional. The application shown was niche but its applicaple to many things.
but to answer you, yes that was a bit of sarcasm. in the sense that i dont imagine microsoft would sell it. they want to reimagine themselves and this is a way to do it. if say college kids get one them then they hence become hip and then people who dont even need them buy them (like a lot of apple products)
I... just... bought... iLife... '09...
Oh well, I'll see if it's worth the upgrade.
I think it will be Aperture 2 instead of iLife, which I'm totally ok for.
How much you bet that iWork will now part of iLife?
@Jamus
0$, it won't. Work and Life, separate, get it?
Wow. You guys are .... insane
@Jamus What are they gonna do, call it iWife and have it nag you for updates?
I believe that iLife 10 will come out with all new updates and one new program. Also they'll announce their awesome new device along with iPhoneOS 4.0. This OS will probably have flash and will be released to developers from that day forward as a beta. The make sure their new device has apps when released, they probably will have a way for developers to buy the tablet from them for testing. The tablet and the OS will then be released to the public about three months from the announcement. It will be like the 3G and 3.0, or the 3GS and 3.1.
This is my personal belief.
How obvious is it that it's a tablet aimed at creative individuals, most likely with pressure sensitivity in order to convert the Wacom crowd?
@Goldfish
there's no such thing as a wacom crowd. and of course its not a creative device...
THey are announcing a photoshop competitor.
I think the rumours are pointing to Apple trying to usher in a new era of social networking, with the iPhone/iPod and iSlate devices at the hub.
I think, we will see a webcam on the new iSlate, which will run a modified version of iChat. iChat for windows will be announced to coincide with this, and on the side, possibly a new service by Apple which incorporates VOIP, and will compete with services such as Skype/Vonage/Google Voice.
Apple should just surprise everyone and screw the tablet and come out with an 10' netbook like they said they wouldn't
Don't trust anything from Fox News.
@pachi72
Making more money - that's from selling "crap" isn't it?
Give me a freaking break. Apple designs nice stuff that's easy to use.
