Tired of waiting for the Eee PC 1201T to ship? Impatient, aren't we? We've been wondering about the status of this here netbook since it
came to light last November, and now it looks like the Germans are about to get a real, live taste of AMD's
Congo platform. Boasting a 1.6GHz MV40 CPU, the same look and feel that we've grown accustomed to on Eee PC netbooks, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, ATI HD3200 GPU and Windows 7 on the OS front, this is certainly one of the more unique machines in the sea of Atomized "me-toos." The pain? €399 ($560), and the first batch is expected to ship out tomorrow. Here's hoping the price dips somewhat when it makes its Stateside debut.
Anyone know if the battery sticks out the bottom?
If not, hot damn this is a nice machine.
Ganz Toll
Yawn. Sounds like the Toshiba T115 or the MSI U230 but for more cash. Add some sideport memory to the HD3200 and trade the MV40 for any of the dual-core L-series procs and I could see paying $560 for this.
@dingus I agree that this is to much ca$h for a machine rocking an AMD johnson!
@dingus Actually, this looks like almos the same replica as the asus-eee-pc 120n: i know optical media is kind of dying, but when your machine gets gorked and needs to be doctored up a bit, you can't always count on being able to boot over USB. Another view: http://bit.ly/asus-1201n-overview
How does the AMD cpu compare to say Atom single and dual core and to 1.3ghz CULV cpus and how does Congo compare to Ion graphics?
@methanoid
3200 is on par with ion/9400m, maybe even a smidgen better.
The Athlon Neo outperforms the Atom by a good margin.
Where this thing will ultimately fail is it's 2-3 hours of battery life. Lots of performance for the price and form factor, not much unplugged mobility
@Luffy
I'm sorry but this same chipset combo is on HP DM3-1030us and many reviewers have stated they get 5:30 to 6 hours from the battery.
@Dubb
More like 4-5. Plus the new Thinkpad that just came out with a Neo MV-40 only gets 5 hours with its 6 cell. Don't expect more than that and that's with light usage.
I think its more likely to be around 450$ on stateside. Would match the usual price conversion.
@Stengo Yeah, most people on this site, including the editors, always seem to forget that Europeans have to pay VAT, which adds a fair chunk to the price. $450 sounds a bit more likely, though anywhere between $400 and $500 wouldn't surprise me at all.
@Stengo if it is under $450 i might replace my 1008HA with this one.
Who would have guessed you have to go to the Amazon (in Germany) to get to the Congo?
@DarKlar
Brain....melting....from horrible post.....
@DarKlar
You win the ... Nothing !
Wipe off that huge grin! Now, if you'd only passed that Geography test !
I already using one now.. ^_^ around $499 without windows seven. ^_^
DAMN! Just 2 inches too big for me.
That's what she said.
@corneliusm
Or more likely, what she DIDN'T say........
This is just about the same thing as the 11.6" Lenovo Thinkpad x100e I just got a couple of days ago. Pretty decent, I got a score of 1048 in Geek Bench and just about the same in 3dmark06. I'm getting an honest 3 hours of battery life. Some people say it runs hot, but as a previous 2006 MacBook Pro owner this isn't too bad. The Lenovo's keyboard & trackpad are arguably better than Asus', and the Thinkpad only runs $400 with a student discount.
and again no HDMI output.
