Lil Wayne endorses 'high performance earbuds' (with or without his knowledge)
Well, wouldn't you know it? Monster Cable has started a trend, and as you'd expect, it's truly awful in every way, shape and form. After signing on a few "superstars" to brand their high-dollar earbuds, Live Nation has apparently discovered a similar trick. The difference? Lame packaging, low prices and compatibility with MP3 playas. We're hearing that these will be out soonish with a sub-$20 price tag and support from a variety of musicians... you know, the ones who couldn't care less what product their face gets slapped on. And before you ask, no, we aren't bitter in the least.
Okay, maybe a little.
Okay, maybe a little.

He might have signed an endorsement contract while he was high.
@neoimp
Because he got high, because he got high, because he got hiiiigh...
would have been a better intro to the comments sir.
@neoimp
Anyone know if Monster guitar cable is worth it. An actual analog connection.
Ain't he the boy that looks like the front
of a '63 Impala when he opens his mouth ?
@Eugene Action
only if this was about afroman. these buds are destined for landfills all over the world I would imagine.
@Tiptup300
No. You can get any number of high-quality, "oxygen-free," guitar cables for much less and every bit the "quality." The signal coming from your pickups is not very complex or even clean, the cable is the least of your concerns. Hendrix played with what today would be considered "junk" cables, so did SRV, and on and on.
@neoimp
incorrect, the contract was signed by iil wayne.
@ChillyCat
if thats what you look for in an artist, then u shud try jonas brothers
Lil' Who?
@prewreckless

@neoimp
Haha...
I was just going to say "He's a wanker"
But that video's perfect.
@prewreckless Seriously. Lil' Wayne meet DMX meet Coolio...and so on and so on.
These auto-detect whenever you're playing a Lil Wayne song, and automatically mute themselves so as to protect the listener's well-being.
@XciteMe
Do they work for Gucci mane?
@grydlok
BURR !
I can't even understand a thing Lil wayne says -- guess they should start teaching Ebonics in school nowadays.
@(Unverified)
he's not speaking ebonics he's speaking martian
@(Unverified) then maybe you should read his lyrics.. his rhymes are really creative there is a reason he is the number one rapper right now.
@Chrisace89
Lol troll
@Chrisace89 number 1 rapper? LOLbeans
@N900
He is basically the number one rapper in terms of market worth. Look at who he's picked up on his young money label; Drake, Jay Sean, both at the top of the charts. Although weezy has fallen off ever since the carter 3 dropped, he still carries an insurmountable amount of importance in terms of bringing hip hop in the south to a mainstream audience. Keep in mind he started at a very young age (I think his debut album before the hot boys came out when he was 16). Also people who think lil wayne is a shitty rapper, go listen to any of his older mix tapes (da droughts) or the carter 1/2. I guarantee your view of him as a rapper will change.
@Chrisace89
Wow ... You know the truth hurts people who would rather see other people fail instead of succeed. For the record, i gave you my vote up .. it definitely won't help on this site though ... sorry dawg.
-sun
@Chrisace89 #1 rapper? That doesn't say much.
The best part is he's in jail!
If his opinion on audio quality is as well-informed as his fashion sense, how can you go wrong?
"Now Featuring Auto-Tune headphones! You've never heard any thing like this before shorty!....."
I think lil wayns music is awesome!
@Chrisace89
Clearly.
@Chrisace89 im sorry, did you just call what "lil wayne" does music? please, there is a big difference....
@flett Not music?? ok i could understand you saying you just dont like his music but to say its not music is just being ignorant.. he has won every music award you can possibly imagine and his last album sold 1.5 million copy's in the first week.
@Chrisace89
Doesn't mean he's good. Some people will buy anything you throw at them including Lil Wayne discs and these earbuds,,,
Yeah!
What!
Yeah!
@(Unverified)
Lil Wayne =/= Lil Jon
@o29
they're hard to distinguish. I was going to post something similar tbh...
And next time you mention Pac, Biggie and Jay-Z Don't forget WEEZY BABY!!!
@Jimi Yeah, I'm usually having a conversation about good rappers and then someone inevitably mentions a terrible rapper, like Lil Wayne. You know, just as a device to highlight the differences between good and bad rap.
@MrAkash It's all a matter of taste. I happen to think that the song those lyrics came from (Mr. Carter) is a good song. I also like his verse on Drake's Forever song (then again, I like that entire song).
I seriously doubt that this thing works with the iPod shuffle 4g anyway, so they better knock off the "works with all iPods" claim. But hey, does anyone else even have that thing or hasn't lost it yet?
The question is, with or without high performance? I won't buy anything with a drugged rapper on it.
@Exbloder
Where's the question? That looks like a statement with a question mark thrown in the middle of it.
@Exbloder
A fool and his money are soon parted.
feel sorry for people who fall for those compatible stickers lol :P
these probably will never be able to work for the same price as mine
sony mdr ex35b bumpin buds for $20 @ target
9mm drivers with a max power of 100mW
sensitivity of 100dB/mW
frequency response of 6-23,000hz
you cant tell the difference between 6-20hz but you can feel it in your ear
@manofchao5
thanks for taking the opportunity to post the specs to your $20 headphones. you're special.
@Slyk i do so because then someone else who wants good bass headphones that are small in size and price and high in bass and sound quality will know of some good headphones
@Slyk also its called irony i was endorsing my favorite headphones because i feel that im a celebrity too if any of you count lil wayne as one lol
I'm guessing from these comments that most engadget readers have never heard a rap song without covering their ears and running to the car to blast some Garth Brooks.
@zangetsu2 Nope, I doubt any engadget readers listen to country, I do not. Rock music, indie music, just about anything other than Lil Wayne
Another way he supports his drug addiction.
Dang yall. I just got my Lady Gaga and Dr. Dre Monster earbuds and headphones! Now I have to git my lil dwayne HP buds!
Do they have a Milley Cyrus or Hannah Montanna buds yet? I'll pre order for sure.
As if this fool had any musical talent at all? Can he sing? Can he play an instrument? Does he know how to read or write music? No Talent *ss Clown ring a bell. Who would want to play the noise garbage he is responsible for through nice ear-buds anyway? Lollypop that low to no class noise pollution imitation of music (cars, money, women) get a new theme, the greed and lust makes the lyrics sound like mentally limited fools are behind the words! Big rims, big titties, so freak what you poser Jones's following vanity flossing dingle berries~!
