Motorola MOTOROI almost certainly bound for T-Mobile (thanks, FCC!)
We needed to independently connect and verify a few dots before sounding the alarm here, but sure enough, it looks like Cell Phone Signal has unearthed the best smoking gun yet suggesting Motorola's MOTOROI -- the phone formerly known as the Sholes Tablet -- is destined for T-Mobile USA. The evidence comes in the form of an FCC filing, a Motorola device with ID IHDP56KC6, that's certified for quadband EDGE plus T-Mobile-friendly 1700 / 2100MHz HSPA humming at a peak of 10.2Mbps down and 5.6Mbps up (not too shabby) with Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and magnetic compass. By and large, Moto managed to paint over revealing portions of spectrum analyzer screen shots that contained the product's codename, but there are a couple they forgot to touch -- and sure enough, the part they didn't want you to see reads in part "SHOLES."
So why are we so sure this is the keyboardless MOTOROI as opposed to an AWS-compliant form of the Droid / Milestone, which shared the Sholes name internally? The answer lies in the SAR report, which didn't test the phone's radiated power in both "slider up" and "slider down" configurations like we saw in the Droid's documentation -- there's just one set of figures here. That, of course, means no slider, which in turn means no QWERTY, which ultimately means MOTOROI. Now if you'll excuse us, we need to close fourteen sets of FCC filings, restart our computer, and grab a quick drink -- but in the meantime, T-Mobile folks, take comfort in knowing that your Moto rollercoaster doesn't start and end with the CLIQ. Don't suppose this would be a March release, would it?

detective ziegler strikes again.
@skyblaze
seems interesting, but from what i have seen i am not particularly fond of the beer gut bump at the bottom
Awesome!
Nobody is bound to anything as long as a smartphone has a sim card slot!;) $2 - $5 on ebay to unlock that thing and you can use it with any carrier!;))))
@Priutilov
If by "any carrier" you mean "at&t", and if by "use", you mean "use 2G only"...
@Priutilov and if by ;))))) you mean those are all your chins, lay down the pringles man!
tmo gets all the love these days
@southern78 No kidding. Between this, the Nexus, and the HD2, they have a powerhouse of high end phones.
@southern78 - Agreed! To be fair AT&T will be getting a bunch of new devices soon (like the Pre/Pixi Plus, some Android phones), but T-Mo is really getting a lot of love, especially from HTC.
@MRCUR Actually, technically, it doesn't have to be the Pixi/Pre Pluses.
They said two devices, what's to say Palm won't strike with new phones sometime?
I'm really hoping they do o_o
@Kirtay They more than likely will be coming out with some new hardware since Verizon said the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus will be exclusives.
@southern78
No kidding, this is really starting to make me mad. T-Mobile is terrible here, and yet, they are getting all the best phones. However, those of us on AT&T get the iPhone and NOTHING else. Sure, we'll get the terrible Palm line up and a few ugly Androids, but we can't get a nice looking phone!
@MRCUR that's only because t-mobile is the only mobile carrier that makes sense in the u s of a....... price/plan-wise.

@AJerman ; You are mad because T-Mobile is getting nice phones even though they are terrible in your area. May I ask where do you live? T-Mobile has decent service in and around most metropolitan areas. Dont get me wrong. They have plenty to improve. But dont expect them to improve coverage in rural areas. They are targeting the 80% of US population who lives in and around metropolitan areas.
@southern78 : I don't think this is a win for TMo. Considering the price seen brandished about for the MotoROI upon release in Korea was slated somewhere in the vicinity of $800 USD equivalent. Neither this nor the HTC HD2 was set to come in under $300-400, and this will do absolutely nothing ....nothing on behalf of TMo. Where only 1,000-2,000 of these phones at MOST throughout their time of offering, will be sold.
That is, IF, they bring in these higher end phones in that stratospheric range of phone prices. Even the highest end iPhone with 32Mb is available for $299. When are carriers going to get it that in the US, the most that most folks will be willing to dish out for a new and subsidized phone is $299. Compare how many TP2 have been sold on AT&T vs TMo, and you'd see that it's not just the cost of monthly service, but also cost of entry.
Hopefully someone will realize that selling this 'ROI for the kind of $$ reported for other parts of the world, will not do a single thing to bring back Big Moto back from the brink.
@MarceloL Please. $7-800 maybe the unlocked/unsubsidized price, but theyll subsidize it heavily. The 32 GB not MB, certainly not Mb iPhone is $699 unsubsidized.
Wow...Does THAT suck.
Nice
Wow, I remember when T-Mobile got all the crappy phones and AT&T was boasting a nice set of hardware.
Look how the table has turned.
I already have a Nokia N900, so MOTOROI, HD2, or Nexus One?
@bachviet: Ummm...Nexus?
@bachviet - Either an N1 or HD2. An N1 with AT&T 3G and I'm done.
@bachviet
I have had the HD2 since november and it's still a joy to use every time.
I also love my HTC Hero (EU "Chin" edition) but even with all the great free apps from Adro market, the lack of working voice dialing prevents me for using it as my primary phone.
I just sold my Nokia N97 which I had got in exchange of the old iPhone 3GS and now I can't decide if the Hero is to be replaced by a Milestone/droid, this Sholes thingy, a Nexus one or the SE X10 wich will be introduced in 2 weeks from today.
The X10 seems a killer machine but SE usually manages to make a mess out of even the most promising devices and the N1 has the most advanced ROM.
It's getting really hard to decide which andro smartphone is the best option.
@bachviet Motoroi!! The HDMI can't be found elsewhere!
Plus, you still get that 3.7'' Android love.
@bachviet "GSM" Motoroi please come in EU
holy crap this doesnt have a keyboard?NOOOOO :( i thought i would of been a droid with moto blur. why cant there be an android phone with a qwerty so i can ditch my g1.
Get used to the virtual keyboard. Simple.
@AndroidRokz
sorry, but people with gorilla fingers (like me) cant get around poking touch screens with enough precision to bang out emails or urls without making 50 billion mistakes. ive "practiced" touch screen typing with my G1 and Touch Pro 2 for as long as ive had them and every single time im forced to flip the keyboard back open. some people just cant do it... not their fault.
@skyblaze Get an unlocked Euro phone and use it over here. I'm sure there are a ton of Android sets over seas with a kb.
@saturnblackhole
I agree, something like the nexus 1 with a keyboard is what I want to replace my G1. The software keyboard just isn't quite there yet.
It must be a fake!
I learned from movies that government agencies always use a secret and super advanced OS
I could possibly drop my Nexus for this. Loved the Aqua theme in the Korean video.
@josesxi If you do drop it...just drop in the mail to me!
@josesxi well send it here baby
I've been going through a similar debate before I decided to order a Nexus One on which phone to wait for or get between the HD2, X10, N1, and the MOTOROI. I just cant get over the stupid hump in the Moto.
hmmm i think its a good thing i didnt get the nexus one...
Yeayyy!!!
we were the first to get the chin,
NOW WE GET THE HIP!!!!
WHOOT!
I truly do not understand why phone manufacturers keep condemning themselves to T-Mobile purgatory. I get that maybe T-Mobile allows for the manufacturer to have more freedom in deciding what features their phone will have, but they will never be able to achieve significant market share if they aren't present on Verizon or AT&T. As a AT&T and iPhone 3GS user, I would love to have the option of using an Android device (while being able to use 3G bands), but it seems manufacturers (and Google) are afraid of letting me buy their phone...
@Matt No it is AT&T being married to Apple and the iPHONE that prevent you from having a choice of the best and the latest on your carrier.
@Matt l sour grapes anyone? ; D
@Matt l
AT&T promised us good Android phones, but the cake is a lie.
@Matt l
Sucks don't it? Well, you got to laugh at everyone as you used your 3G iPhone and nyucked nyucked nyucked your way around for 2 1/2 years. Welcome to 2010.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN
No Snapdragon? Not worth it.
@Johnny Rockets
that is not true
Hey Chris,
Where in the filing does it mention the 10.2Mbps down and 5.6Mbps up?
Thanks!
Why is AT&T falling asleep at the wheel? WTH is going on? What could you be prepping your network for? If you dare say the backflip, so help me god I'll smack the shit out of you.
@SamTime They are probably doing it for a number of things. Like the apple tablet, two web OS devices, 5 android devices, and a new iPhone.
@Ezye1313 to which they will FAIL at all of those.
@Ezye1313 One of the Android phones is the Backflip, another is the mini 3i, both are kinda lackluster, so that leaves only three androd devices that could be great, but they're HTC, so most likely at least some of them will be on other carriers.
