Dell Adamo falls to under $1,000 for the first time, tempts you mercilessly
You know what's hard to resist? This. You know what else is difficult to turn a blind eye to? One of the sexiest machines Dell has ever made, at a price point that's below the all-important four figure mark. Starting today, the Adamo Admire is sporting an altogether sultry base price of $999, which nets you a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, Windows 7 Home (64-bit), 2GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128GB solid state drive. If that's a little weak for your tastes, the upmarket Adamo Desire has also undergone a price reduction, enabling you to get a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo chip, 4GB of memory, integrated mobile broadband and a 256GB SSD for $1,799 -- a full $500 less than it was in October. You're blowing it off like you just don't care, but you know you'll be back to visit that Source link when no one's looking. And the video after the jump, too.

Wow, that's impressive.
I'd pay $400 for an external video card, if I could get an Adamo for $1,000. External pci-e, plz. NV/ATI, get to it!
@Smurf
BTW, the $1,000 Adamo is the best netbook ever. Eat it, Vaio P! http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644608896
@Smurf It's better than netbook but heavier about 2 lbs.
F*** the iPad, I think I am going to have to pull the trigger on this Adamo soon.
If it weren't for the fact that I just dropped three grand on an Alienware I would be very tempted.
yeah, I was waiting for an update to the macbook air to pull the trigger but this looks real good... and I feel like punishing Apple for insulting us yesterday.
@PF If you comparing to macbook air- i till tick with macbook air
I have macbook air 1.6 64 SSd and 2 od dell adamo 1.4 128 SSD version and air is faster and lighter.
From inside the adamo look more like unibody macbook pro 13 without the black colors.
And, as for the reason to punish Apple for the lame ( but eventually workable product) - i am with you.
But the good thing about Iplaytex that is will push other companies to keep price low.
I hope HP slate will be around that price.
Microsoft store was selling Adamo 1.2 gig version for 899 ( pearl ) the whole last week.
What? I can't buy the base model and upgrade the RAM to 4GB? (Just tried to order on their site.) I'm shopping for a laptop right now, but that's a deal killer. So's the $1,800 version BTW.
@MBN No, you cant upgrade the ram. It's soldered on the motherboard.
You can upgrade pci-e SSd if you want it , that's about it.
You guys should have an article about how this compares with the iPad.
64 bit on a system with 2GB of RAM kinda defeats the purpose.
I just ordered the 2gb ram, 128gb ssd, 1.2ghz model from the Microsoft Store for $899 last week.
This is a great computer. Plenty fast. I've been pleasantly surprised how fast it is. The ssd alone makes up for its other shortcomings. Slicker than the Macbook Pro (much better keyboard). Plays 1080p video no problem. Boots up in 30 sec, shuts down in less than 5 sec. It is absolutely SILENT 90% of the time. Yes, I would have liked more ram, but for the price, this is the laptop/netbook to own. Would recommend without reservation.
Any questions, let me know.
Why would you get this when you could just get a iPad...?
@maattp Coz... if that was needPads or MonicaPad that will be a sealed deal. but Ipad?
@maattp
Because you want something that's actually useful?
It's about time.
Above-average looking case, but the heart is still unfortunately a Dell. Budget bin parts, shitty drivers and more than likely bogged down with bloatware. Probably also be plagued with the same battery adapter problems that have been going on for years.
Still a high price for an aluminum-wrapped turd.
Desperate people do desperate things. I expect Dell will be bought out soon. HPaq?, Sony?, MSFT? who'll be the lucky Mofo?
LOL
Adamo looks dumb. Dell should stop pretending to make sexy laptops and stick to what it does best — selling cheap boxes and laptops for offices. Their Vostro line is surprisingly good.
These Adamo laptops are kind of odd. It's like Wal-Mart selling high-end jewelry.
No thanx. I'm getting ipad only $499.
Most Desirable n technolically advanced device anyone has seen this decade. Now that ipad was unveiled everything else seems so 2001'ish.
Wm is so 1999.
Apparently nobody's notified Dell Canada (dell.ca). Our Admire still starts at $2,199 CDN (approx $2,061 USD), and Desire at $2,899 CDN (approx $2,718 USD).
It looks great, but 2GB of RAM at that price just isn't doing it for me. I suppose it's the same price you'd pay for a MacBook with 2GB of RAM though. And it looks better.
@Amatatomba
As a Mac user I concur. But... we don't just buy Macs for the sex appeal. We also want OS X. And.... *sniff sniff... I can the smell the "C:\" prompt comin' off these things pretty heavily..
Sexy lappies
about time this happened.
@(Unverified) just kidding... iPad rules!
I just bought a black one for $999. So glad I waited and didn't pay $1899.
Too sexy to pass up, guess the Asus goes up on eBay next week.
Okay, I just bought the Admire Model (1.2GHz) from the Microsoft Store for $1000 (discounted). Now that I see the same Model is at the same price range, but with a 1.4GHz, I am thinking of sending back my purchase and buy the 1.4Ghz model instead. My question is, is there any difference between the 1.2 and the 1.4 model (i.e. heat, faster boot, etc.). Is it worth it to return my purchase and get the 1.4 model?
I NEED this laptop! (checkout my name).. Not the right spec for me though... :/
$999 is not at all bad, since the SSD is included (but it's probably a Samsung without TRIM or garbage collection). It's competitive with the Macbook Air SSD version, Sony TT, and Sony X, just a bit heavy.
Here in Aus it is $1399 ($1245 US) with Vista Home Premium and the slower 1.2GHz CPU ... gay. The website says this is the "new low price".
@HawtDawg In Hong Kong we don't have the Adamo anymore, just the Adamo XPS. We don't have the 1645 either. Applies to the rest of South China too, I'm sure. I suppose since they haven't been successful in this retail heavy market they're pairing down their offerings - at least you have the options down under.
..then they wonder why we go through all the xtra trouble of ordering our dells through our US friends... here in Canada the Adamo is at 2199$ and 2899$, go figure : (
Now these prices are economically feasible compared to the stuff in those machines. I don't see why i might not buy one.
@FrankJ
I understand that most people say "the adamo is one sexy machine" but i think you took it the wrong way.
Gee, Dell Canada is still selling these for $2100/2900.
I was going to buy one, but now I may just wait for the new MBA.
