Can't wait to lisen to this... /sarcam
A whole podcast dedicated to Apple and the iPad? This is ridiculous.
Why did u call it a "Podcast 181" instead of "apple ipad supreme ruler of the universe" ?
Just curious.
in before all of you start shitting in your hands and throwing it at engadget.
guess I was too late.
Thanks guys!
Might try to jump right to 01:26:20 and skip the whole iShit but that still requires some wasted bandwidth.
@00iEye00 LOL @ matching tattoos. Man, at least you guys are great sports. Honestly. +1 for Engadget.

@00iEye00 fix the doggcatcher redirects error on podcasts. please.
@00iEye00
I really love engadget and all their amazing journalists and writers, but seriously, when the editors get into their 'mapple mode' they should temporarily change the name of the site to 'iGadget' so us normal, poor folk know to stay away until the nerdgasm has subsided.
It was not "the launch event" joshua toplosky. It was the world premiere event. The launch event comes at midnight eastern time whenever it goes on sale.
iWorks? No thanks, I'll use Safari and log-on to my Google Docs, thanks though.
"check out the Windows app store" -- amazing
No body talks about the iPad for the size it is, missing a DVD or Blu-ray player.
You want to watch a Movie on disc, or load software that is on disc, what do you do? Doesn't even have a USB for an external drive!
I think the debate about flash on Apple devices is simple. Flash would kill the iTunes store. Why spend 1.99 on an episode the Office on iTunes when you can see it free on Hulu? Just plain business.
@uncle vanya
Only someone in the US would say this. Hulu doesn't work for the rest of the world regardless of Flash support.
@b3ar Plenty of proxy workarounds for that.
The iPad is 2 main additions, and one personal addition away from being the best living room gadget ever.
1. Multi-tasking. To me, the iPad hardware is trapped in the iPhone OS software. If you include multi-tasking, you are truly making the iPad the middle category between the laptop and the smart phone.
2. Flash. Sorry Apple, if this is gonna be the ultimate internet/media gadget, it's gotta have flash. Hulu and Netflix on the iPad would be game-changers.
3. Front-facing camera w/ iChat and Photo booth apps. Apple has a great chance of making the iPad not only a great media/internet gadget, but if you put a front-facing camera with iChat and Photo booth, it becomes an AMAZING communications device.
Dear Engadget
Do you really think that Apple would show iChat mobile and multi tasking on the iPad before on the iPhone "4.0" comes out. iPad is not attending for iPhone 3.2.
They get multi tasking it is just part of a future update hopefully iPhone 4.0
iPad has time to grow because it runes iPhone OS
This event was about look how BIG and cool this is, and iPad is for books just like the iPod is Music. Just look at the name in 1 to 3 year you are going to eating your words.
It is cheaper than a MacBook Air and it is for students and no student has that much money.
It can do more than Google's Chrome NetBook JK
By the way the iWork can Multi Task with itself you can upload photo without closing the app.
I think that the iPad will sell off the shelves really fast just look at how success the Nexus One and the HTC HD 2 is selling and this is big and the ads are not out yet.
I think NBC and CBS have iPhone pages and TV.com WebPages
YouTube is in HTML 5 Google will push HTML 5 and so is Apple that is god for now.
Skyfire runs Flash
And Nokia phones runs Flash and they don't use Adobe for Flash so does Linux somehow.
Adobe needs Apple a lot more than Apple needs Adobe (Flash) but maybe they will work something out
Why would they talk about new iPhone OS futures before the new iPhone/ 4.0?
Facebook app? Facebook website fits this better.
I really like this I hope iPhone 4.0 OS will have what want latter.
Ipad in every link in the show notes come so much ipad who cares its gay and does nothing that a laptop can't do.
Yay! I love listening and look forward to this every week. Keep it up.
Nice to not hear them drivel on and on about phones for a change but talk (actually sensibly) about the ipad instead.
And no I'm not being sarcastic, I liked how they admitted the flaws of the ipad and admitted they don't get what the hell apple is doing, and what the effect might be and the future might hold.
This was a really good podcast. Great arguments made by all 3 about the iPad.
Why aren't you guys working for Apple or some company? Everything you say makes so much sense, ways to improve products, from a consumer POV. Great work as always guys!
Quick thought on the A4 ARM chip. It is likely that the sole point of the chip is to have hardware protection against jailbreaking.
Although I do think HTML5 is the future, its not going to get here pretty. Firefox is not implementing support for h.264 as its not open, and basically what makes flash great, is that its like java. It works on any machine with flash runtime. HTML5 means the OS has to support the codec and its very likely that consumers will see websites that use all kinds of video codecs that are supported on some systems but not others. Even though adobe supports hardware acceleration, its still an alpha product if you ask me. Security and Optimization have so much further to go....
