Alienware M11x 'netbook' gets detailed, headed to Japan this month
We got a chance to check out Alienware's ultraportable M11x laptop at CES last month, but the company unfortunately wasn't ready to reveal too many specs beyond the NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics at the heart of the rig. A couple of newly leaked slides have now cleared up most of the remaining mystery, however, the biggest of which is that the system will apparently be available with either a Pentium SU4100 or Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor -- making the "netbook" term even more of a stretch than it was before. Curiously, the slides also show a target price of $899 (up from the $799 we heard at CES), and a ready-to-ship date of February 5th, which would seem to indicate that the "Spring" launch tossed around earlier may have been a bit cautious -- that latter detail is further backed up by a post on Dell Japan's website, which indicates that the laptop will be released in the country this month.

Are you sure it's February 5th and not May 2nd?
@mredraider Nevermind. I see the other date in the mm/dd/yy format above it.
Why do they keep calling this a netbook?
I'll have that over the highest end iPad any day of the week and twice on sunday!
was sceptical about the low processor speed. but to be honest, the cpu doesn't make that much of a difference these days: as long as its dual core, it will happily run anything - intel are happy charging an extra £50 for a cpu that's 130 mhz faster than the previous model.
it ran left 4 dead 2 better than my macbook. i am totally buying this. an earlier release date is even better.
Also how come japan get it before US? :P
@Mobious Cuz it's Japan
on a previous m11x post on engadget a member said that this may be available to order on wednesdaay as it was mentioned in the Australian post or something like that, how long do you think it will take alienware to ship 2-3 weeks?
I was hoping it had the Core 2 Duo SU9600 standard, but the Core 2 Duo SU7300 will do. If my dad takes my laptop (because the one he's using right now is to slow), I'm going to decide between this and the MacBook. Anyone have any suggestions?
@Tothamax
If you are a gamer, the Alienware machine will probably suit you better because it can play all modern games, unlike the current (may be refreshed soon) MacBook. But in terms of ease of use and the like, the MacBook wins IMO.
Dell posted this on their HomeOffers Twitter feed:
Get it here first. The moment everyone has been waiting for...Alienware Mllx http://bit.ly/bsMRYN

So tempting, I spec'd out a nice system for just over $1000
Mmmm, ok, I must to say it: I'm disappointed. I like the size, I like the design, I like the GPU, I LOVE the AlienFX ilumination system. I hate this little crapy CPU.
Why you don't put a "complete" Core 2 Duo and not a low consumption version?
