Is a Core i7-based MacBook Pro strutting its specs in the wild?
For your viewing pleasure, we present the latest Apple rumor doing the rounds this Saturday afternoon -- namely, GeekBench results for a "new" Core i7 MacBook Pro. According to the results, what you're looking at above are the numbers for the MacBook Pro 6,1, sporting a nastified Intel Core i7 (dual core, not quad) 620M (Arrandale) percolating along at 2.66GHz. Other curious points here are the 4.8GHz FSB, which sounds a little screwy to us, and a final GeekBench score of 5260, which makes current MBPs clocked at the same speed look like your grandfather with a walker (those ranges hover around 3700-4000 on average). The laptop in question is also allegedly running a fresh version of Snow Leopard (build 10C3067 of 10.6.2), which certainly makes sense if someone is out there benching a new Apple product, though it's not a number we can verify. Still, if you were using a new Apple product, would you be dumb enough to publicly share this info? Probably not, which of course raises the question that this might just be a hackintosh or some other clever spoof (even if we did see a suggestion of new MBPs on the way recently). In the meantime, you can dream of having your pants burnt off by the above monster, and we'll let you know if this thing starts looking a little more real.

need a new laptop, and have been waiting for the new Macbook Pro. hurry up and release it already so i can go ahead and hand over my cash.
you can get a Dell Studio XPS 1 with i7 quad,4gb RAM, ATI 4670 for $1400 ... just saying :)
@(Unverified)
No, they start at $1600. Also, they're only 1.6-1.73 GHz, this MBP is 2.66, which kind of negates the advantage you get with quad cores over dual. Also note that the 1.73 GHz i7 brings it right up to $2k.
Man I HATE that I cannot know when they are fixin to release new machines! They ended up releasing the unibodies just a few months after i bought my current MBP way back in 2008. I am about ready to upgrade and I don't want the same thing to happen again. Does anyone know a safe time to make a purchase from Apple where I won't be outmoded in a week?
@kobioshi
As someone previously said, the MacRumors buyers guide is the way to go. I use it all the time and FWIW i am waiting on new MBPs too. According to Macrumors, the supply of the current MBPs is low which is normally a good indicator of things to come
What I really want is the MBP to have Core i7 (already noted), 16GB RAM ATI Mobility 5870 and an Integrated solution, blu-ray disc and a higher resolution screen (1080p on 15') and full resolution independence in OSX! That would be CRAZY. As well as OpenGL 3.2 support and many popular games being ported over or made natively on OS X
Dual core, that is so 2008. Apple needs to step it up and beef Grand Central with 4 hyperthreading cores if they are going to stay up in the game on performance notebooks. Lets just hope they pair this will a fast front side bus, some 32nm DDR3, and something innovative and unique on the discrete/ seamless throttle able graphics. Likewise I hope they get a custom ULV version of the processor to keep the "2010" refresh of the MBP from running hotter than a bad girls dream. And lets also hope they keep moving forward and one up themselves on the machined aluminium to get stronger and lighter still~ OLED or AMOLED would sure be nice in the screen too~
Completly fake, I have Core 2 Quad hackintosh which gets 6010 score. My mate has Core i7 and he gets over 8000 score...

Well, that's significantly better.

And the price? Over $2,000 I bet.
I'm not impressed by the score. My old Core2Quad Q9450, P45 motherboard and 8GB of DDR2-800 scored a 4744. :)

Wouldn't the 27 inch imac have i7 before the Macbook Pro?
i7, 5870? no wayyyyyyyy sorry
that sucker would melt in 2 seconds flat.
Right now im sitting on a 2.8 duo, 9600m gt and i play Hl2 (crossover) or css and after 20 minutes you can cook an egg.
unless they increase the perforation of the aluminum sheet somehow, change the internal layout for cooling, change the heatsink piping, or something crazy, we won't see anything like that.
i7 fine, but more the 5830 than 70. (major bummer)
I ordered an envy 15 4 days ago, just called and cancelled the order because i know ill beat myself up later when these come out.
