Motorola: Droid update to Android 2.1 'will start to roll out this week'
We knew Android 2.1 was coming for the Droid, but we'll confess -- we didn't expect it to come this soon. Motorola is now reporting via its official Facebook page that it's "happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to Droid will start to roll out this week," going on to tease that it "will have more information to share on other device upgrades later." There's no detail on what the Droid update will entail or whether it'll roll out to every user this week (we doubt it), but by all indications, this is a promising sign that Moto's keeping the pedal to the metal, we'd say.[Thanks, andrewcweaver]

Sits here and waits and waits till At&t gets a new hopefully a GOOD ANDROID PHONE. I'm jealous now.
@Inspector Gadget80
Didn't wait, just up and left, Samsung Jack got a new home via eBay.
I have been waiting for 2.1 update for a while, and i most certainly expect it to be worth the wait.
Let's see some multitouch, live wallpapers, and less sluggish performance. Make me want to unroot!
MT and smoother performance....YES!! Looks like I won't be. Upgrading phones anytime soon. Yay!!
Droid does
I am regretting picking up the g1 now seeing how I don't see us ever getting an update to 2.0 :(
@mercnet They still sell the G1! After all these new Android phones, especially the droid and N1, it seems like they would've discontinued it... but seriously, totally your fault.
Still waiting for my android engadget app
now what! should i still wait for nexus one?!!!!!!!
Any updates on the Android Engadget App??? Will there be a Widget included, that would be cool
Droid users are lucky... Moto Europe isn´t even finished pushing 2.0.1 to the Milestone....at this rate we may be lucky to get 2.1 before the end of the year (if ever).
I hope for the Droid users that Moto will not take the opportunity to totally lock the Droid like they did with the milestone with this update. That would mean the end of overclocking, custom roms ect...
Please help our plea for an open bootloader for the milestone by posting on the Moto europe facebook page:

i dont understand why motorola is ignoring all other users other than US users. they are not opening milestone security, they dont update the device as fast as they do for droid?
all the questions are being ignored, no one answering these
can anyone provide answer for why all this to non US users?
is milestone just a piece of bread thrown to any ignored pet?
we are feeling like this now
Do I need to unroot my droid to get this?
Voice dialing through Bluetooth headset a feature?
Yes, breaking news.
The Motofail certainly needs the 2.1 update instead of the Eris.
I'm starting to get sick of Moto getting all the updates and Eris getting pissed on.
@Atara9
Yeah, the Eris is getting strangely neglected. Didn't get much advertising, no substantial updates, locked so can't root and use custom ROMs. Its crazy. I'm glad I didn't go for it, but it sucks that HTC is neglecting this phone.
@DJ
Just seems all HTC cares about is that damned Nexus One. If my Eris at least had 1.6 I'd be happy because I NEED the voice navigation so bad.
No live wallpapers? What gives
We are still waiting for milestone 2.0.1 update here in Argentina :(
I think that for geeks who go to engadget, android is a great buy. But for everyone else in the world who isn't a supernerd, the iPhone is a great way to make them feel techie.
@jmiotto
i guess, since the iphone is nothing more than a feature phone
I think that my Droid does most things well already but I would really like to see some updates to email usage but most specifically, zoom in features or the ability to change text size default. We don't all have 20 year old eyes or glasses at the ready.
Any idea when 2.1 is coming to milestone.
Will the milestone be released with 2.1 or 2.0.1?
@ongadget * the canadian milestone
ive had 2.1 on my g1 for over almost a month. live wallpaper and all...luckly me ;)
