ASUS G73JH-X1 gaming laptop hits the US
ASUS introduced its G73JH-X1 gaming laptop right at the start of CES this year, but it unfortunately didn't have much to say about pricing or availability at the time. That's now changed in a big way, however, as the laptop is available right now (at Newegg, at least) for the not-so-crazy price of $1,449.99. That will get you a 17.3-inch 1920 x 1080 display, a Core i7 720QM processor, 8GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 graphics, and a DVD burner, among other more standard fare -- all in a suitably angular, eight-pound package, of course.

@Akhen I call bs
8gb DDR3 1066 385$
Radeon HD 5770 170$
good mobo 120$
1TB 120$ or so
Nice 500W psu 80$
decent case 60-100$
decent monitor 180-220$
i7-920 Bloomfield 290$
thats 1365$...
@jitters333 What in the world? What kind of RAM is that? Should be paying no more than $200 for 8GB and your idea of pricing on hard drives, motherboards and monitors is slightly off too. And why not go for a Core i5 750 instead? Still much more powerful than a Core i7 720QM.
@Shokz
yeah you can find TBs drive for 80 bucks or so but raid0 500GBs would beat its performance so two 3.5" 500GB would be around 110 close eh enough an mobos yeah sure you could find a decent 70-80$ micro atx and as for a gaming performance screen could easily cost more. the ram yeah you could find four sticks of ddr3 for 220-250$, the i5 is a 90$ cheaper for close to the same performance still thats more than a grand
and my bad for double post chromes been acting funny lately =/
@jitters333
Just lately? LOL
Hmm.... I think I might order one for myself

Unbeatable price for the specs. I would get it if I had the money, to be honest.
newegg.com only has listed 6gb... not 8gb as this post suggest. But newegg has a habit of screwing product descriptions
@levi6425 oops nvm. I was looking at the A1 model
A very nice piece of equipment. I got my hands on it for a week and you can find a review here http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.go4it.ro%2Flaptopuri%2Fasus-g73-un-motiv-foarte-bun-sa-nu-ti-cumperi-alienware-5470011%2F&sl=ro&tl=en
This and a Lamborghini Reventón would fit perfectly together!
Was so set on getting one of these until I tapped my chin and actually broke out a measuring tape just to see how big that thing is. Then I thought better of it... still, an awesome deal though.
should I buy this?
Sounds like a good machine if you need a transportable, but as said, a good desktop is going to get you a better 22-24" screen and slightly better performance.
Cool!! I want this babe!!! Placing order now.
My only peeve about it is that one-button mouse design... They could have used one like on the G71.
But that's just a minor detail.
too late, my alienware m11x is already pre-ordered. cause waiting.... is the hardest part!
Oh yeah this thing is hawtness! Hopefully they will make these for a little while in the style above, like how they had similar styles of the G50 G70 series.
I like the "stealth" look they are going for, and it looks like a great machine packaged there. But, for $50 more I can get a Toshiba Qosmio x505 with Blu-Ray, a larger screen, better speakers, and an Nvidia processor (GTS 360).
@Snails
how exactly is "an Nvidia processor" an automatic upgrade?
I'm not a fan of one brand over another, but you seriously need to check out some benchmarks.
the 5870 absolutely destroys the 360 GTS.
@Jules0 I'll admit that I'm a bit of a loyalist in that regard, so for me I'd rather have the Nvidia even if it's slightly slower. You'd be hard pressed to get me to believe that one is worlds better than the other no matter which way the competition went. I'm still running a GTS 8800, so even the "lesser" performance of the GTS 360 is going to be better for me. Lastly, I can't ever keep track of the ATI processors and how they are equivalent to the Nvidia ones anyway.
But that only focuses on one aspect of the difference between the two models. If the only difference were the blu-ray drive, I'd pay the extra $50.
Man my tax return can't get here fast enough. This is going to be perfect for my mobile gaming. Now I can play STO on the run.
Seems they are out of stock as when I went to buy it all I got was the auto notify for when it is in stock.
Actually, looking at the specs for an Alienware M17x and building it the same as this ASUS, the ASUS is way cheaper. Like $1,000 cheaper.
