Remember
Motorola's decision to
pause the sale of its largest division? Change of plans again, folks. According to
The Wall Street Journal, the company's getting ready to reveal a new initiative, whereby it still sells its wireless networking business, but the set-top box and core handset business would instead be spun off into a new, publicly-traded company. That'd invariably leave a pretty small Motorola -- less than one-third its current size in terms of sales, selling primarily public-radio system and bar-code scanners. Would the newly-minted company get a new name, logo, and series of catchy, name-inspired puns? Our guess is it'd retain the Moto name -- why waste such good branding -- but it's not confirmed either way. Plans are still being finalized, but we're watching this closely.
Goodbye Moto
You're the only one.
Sounds about a crazy as I get after doing a few lines!
I hope they don't rename it to something completely different.. Motorola has a long legacy of communications products and to destroy the name that has been built up for over 75 years, it just doesn't seem right.
Way to get creative Motorola, kudos. I'd buy stock in the newer division for sure. They should follow the success Nintendo had by simply switching the 'M' with a 'W', Wotorola. It worked for Wario.
@SaggyBalls Haha, sweet ;) +1
Wait, so who's gonna make the Nexus 2?
@Edobe
MOTORORA...
Wait. The Motorola logo looks like two KKK dudes standing next to each other.
@inimicus Perhaps Motorola was a company who made radios for KKK members to communicate. ;D
@inimicus
Aww crap. Now I can't unsee it.
Definitely not looking forward to seeing Motorola sell of it's mobile division. They really started to turn things around since they began embracing Android, and the Droid is an incredible product. I've honestly been thinking about picking up a Devour when it comes out, looks very sturdy.
Here's hoping this doesn't happen.
@Prevacator
As much as you Moto fanboys doesn't like to hear, Motorola is running out of cash and need to sell off to make cash to sustain the 20+ android phone on their roadmap...
Why is Motorola doing this for? I think Motorola has the coolest company logo, so just keep it.
Keep mobile devices business, spin off set top box business.
Make me new CEO
Motorola has been trying it's hardest to
put itself out of business for the last 10 years. As an ex-MoT employee, i've seen some really stupid moves. Layoff every year... No R/D ... Outsource everything. It's embarrasing. I'm not suprised
Mot has been trying to put itself out of business for the past 10 years. Sooner or later, they'll get it right. Just a little more outsourcing and have the US govt buy radios from Samsung and it's done
This is just plain dumb: "Inside Motorola, the prevailing view now appears to be that handsets and home-video equipment fit together and could help the independent company differentiate itself from other mobile-phone makers..."
Fit together? Differentiate? You mean like all those synergies that Sony, Samsung, and LG have developed between their CE products and their handsets?
Wow.
How about the the Motorola handset division sells off the rest of the company instead?
