Oh yeah, did they give you any of the docks as well? I'm hoping some kind of portable hardware keyboard is in the cards.
does the media player support mkv files? is there a DLNA client?
it looks like the gap between smartphones and netbooks had been already filled by the time iPad came out.
@baizhangg I think this creates a brand new gap between a 9.7" tablet and a smartphone, and then fills that.
no thanks att
I have 2 main questions:
1) what carrier is it for?? I have verizon, so not a lot of android phones can run on my network :(
I really hope it goes to verizon as well so I can get this.
2) how smooth is the functionality? I don't want a laggy device like the original pixi is X_X
and 3) does it have flash? (I know I said 2 but I forgot about this big question)
This size has no sense.
Can you put an Archos 5 Android next to it? To me I see it as a rival for it so i want to see a side by side for size comparison.
@OsoOto good job smudging and scratching up the backside as best as you cold before taking pictures ;)
@Fez could*
Is it Stock 1.6 or some ...skin..
Resistive or capacitive?
How sturdy is this StreakOS over Googles 1.6?
Have you guys tried installing any custom ROMs?
Sense? Blur? 2.1.1? If you have, let us know how they run and react.
How's the camera?
Is there two microphones like on the N1?
Any up to date apps on there? Goggles, Googles Navigation?
Is there a way to make the body of the icons transparent, instead of that grey shade?
How's the speaker on the phone?
Easy access SD slot?
I noticed the HDMI slot, what's it pushing?
Does this include 1080p or 720p recording?
What's the processor? (If not snapdragon, this will make me turn my head back to N1 for AT&T)
Thanks Engadget, I want your babies
Specifications ?!!!! Only going to ATT? Speak up.
I think this looks great. It being Dell, it feels like the start of this size of device becoming homogenised, generic, cheap, rather than miraculous and pricey.
When I use this, with it's nice big screen, will I sometimes be diverted to mobile-version webpages?
WOW!!! It looks like the Archos 5 Whats the spec's???
Hands on Video please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Guys!!!
whats the build quality like? I've used a dell laptop and desktop, and they weren't always the sturdiest of machines.
@sdpagent It's a whole new market for Levis: The Dell Mini 5 pants*
*May not work with other models of Dell Mini
CDMA is a terrible standard, I really hope this is not going to verizon or sprint. ATT and Tmobile plz.
@stabbytheicepic
It's not like they don't already have the Droid, Droid Eris, Devour(soon), Moment, and Hero. I'd rather get this on AT&T as they have NO Android devices yet.
WOW!!! It looks like the Archos 5 Whats the spec's???
Hands on Video please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Guys!!!
Screen size, actual size, UI speed, OS, price and release date?
Any camera?
3.5mm slot? Music quality in headphones?
Build quality?
You like it?
AT&T may suck but they use a 3G standard. If works with Eye-fi I will has over iPad.
Please please! Check the audio quality through 3.5mm jack. Use some decent headphones and pay attention to the amount of hiss and bass you hear.
Some specs from Cnet UK:
Besides its multi-touch display and Dell-skinned Android 1.6 operating system, it packs a 5-megapixel camera on the back, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a SIM-card slot for 3G.

is is capacitive
@emanrules
Yes it is, with multitouch
They gotta do better with the finish on this thing. It looks like it was scraped across a hard floor a few times. How beautiful can a device be if you have to put it in a protective case the moment you first open the box?
Initial thoughts on the size of the unit? Too big for a smartphone? Too small to be a tablet? Or, is it just right?
this thing better be covered from back to front by all of the editors with a primarily review. then a full review later. after which a discussion on whether dell made the right design choices along with potential future paths this product can take.
Of course all of this will be posted on the top headlines. Engadget doesnt have a bias towards apple products. :]
How did the poor thing get so scratched up so quick?
What version of Android is it running, and how is the camera? How does it feel in the hand? What is the resolution?
Any specs?
Speculation on price with and without contract?
Capacitive or Resistive touch screen?
Multi-touch?
Internal storage amount?
Ram amount?
Processor?
Screen resolution?
Battery life?
Any details at all would be nice...
@GldRush98
And physical dimensions of the device itself!
@GldRush98
These are my guesses:
Capacitive or Resistive touch screen? Resistive
Multi-touch? No
Internal storage amount? 16GB-32GB (maybe 8GB and 64GB)
Ram amount? 256mb
Processor? ARM 800MHz
Screen resolution? 800x480
Battery life? 5 hours
@katsun
Well you fail hard, it's almost certainly capacitive touchscreen (look at the video of Michael Dell demoing one, you can't do that kind of light flicking on a resistive screen) and it'll almost certainly have similar or better battery life to a regular smartphone given that it has almost identical internals with a larger case allowing the battery to increase in size proportionally more than the screen does. Also look at the battery life of the nexus one and droid being fine even though their screens run at twice the resolution of previous phones.
@katsun
I think the processor is running at 1ghz on scorpion core.
@katsun
it has a capacitive touchscreen with pinch to zoom multitouch,
it also runs a 1Ghz snapdragon
@Bratyr Sorry guys! It looks like I failed really hard ;) I simply slapped the Archos 5 specs from memory on here. I guess I need to give more credit to Dell than that...
@katsun Hah, yeah... I thought those specs looked familiar.
I mean... really?! This device offers very little over the Archos 5 and costs about 4 times more?! Not Pretty.
I'd call it a win at around $600, not a penny more :/
What's the difference between this and an Archos 5 Internet Tablet? Got one of those Archos and it sucked eggs...
@katsun Google App compliance. Archos tried to get ahead of Google, which arguably is the spirit of Android but unfortunately not the practical reality. Sadly an Android device isn't "cool" unless it's blessed by Google... or rooted to illegally run their apps. :P
This thing is huge. Like Oprah huge
That thing looks freakin' awesome! I would totally carry that around in my pocket, love the huge screen. Come on, bring it to Verizon!!
In the next post how about some comparison shot with the Nexus One?... Too bad this is headed to AT&T.
whtz d processor on this thing ???? gotta be good to handle the multitasking
@bgphoenix
1Ghz snapdraggon
Whatever you do, don't mention the word "Android." It has become the new "Monster."
This has to be a PMP. The default orientation of the device is landscape as indicated by the orientation of the softkeys on the right side (or bottom if you were to hold it in portrait mode).
I would like to hear your impressions on how it functions as a "phone" since it's marketed as a connected MID. Are all the standard Android phone features there or are things like MMS disabled/hidden? Resistive or capacitive screen? Does it have AGPS?
HDMI output?
Media codec support?
HD resolution support?
If not, fail.
