Kinetic scrolling, ladies and gentlemen: are you ready for it? We sure hope so -- if you happen to be using Samsung's rather uncommon
i8910 HD, that is -- because that
sweet update promised back in December appears to have finally hit the ground running. Besides the significantly improved scrolling mechanism being rolled out through most of the handset's interface, firmware version JB1 is said to bring a "next gen" web experience, improvements to the camera and video recording settings, a repaired podcast app, and a smattering of bug fixes everywhere you look. The general release is bound to make the i8910 HD's
most disgruntled customers a little less disgruntled, but there's one little issue -- the upgrade apparently drops free storage on the phone's C: drive all the way down to a nightmarish 17MB, which means you're going to want to make sure you're using secondary storage for absolutely everything you can. If you can live with that -- and with kinetic scrolling, we wouldn't blame you -- it looks like you'll need to cable up to Samsung's PC Studio to perform the update.
Another annoying problem with this firmware is that kinetic scrolling lags horribily in the music player. Compared to the cheap 5800/5530 etc. this is really a shame for Samsung most high-specced device out there.
The update is only available for Italian phones as of now and the camera binary files haven't been changed for some months now, so it seems to be pure imagination of some users that the picture/video quality has been improved. (HD videos are still lagging and the sound in videos is still mediocre to say the best)
Great news :D
I hope this is finally the FW we have been waiting for. Hopefully our ROM modders will be able to fix the low C: space problem.
ya, i was on HX2.02 before this was even released...it was based off a mix of JB1 and JA1/2 (much like this fw is)....full working OS...kinetic is tweaked, many optimizations, and 70 or 80MB free after flash (i forget which i flashed to that fw on the 4th of Feb)..
check it out at hyperx-i8910.com
i highly recommend it.
