Microsoft's PB10ZU (turtle) and PB20ZU Project Pink phones outed by FCC?
Oops. Those two pics looks similar, eh? And if we're not mistaken, Microsoft's Pink phone is rumored to be made by Sharp. This wireframe for model PB10ZU just hit the FCC looking every bit the "Turtle" device that was leaked last year. Of course, seeing Sharp behind Pink is only natural since it was one of Danger's manufacturers of choice for the Sidekick -- a team wholly ingested by Microsoft a few years ago. Looking through the FCC docs we see that it's a slider with dual-band CDMA, EVDO Rev. A, Bluetooth, and 802.11b/g WiFi. We also see reference to a second model, the PB20ZU (aka, "pure"?), although that model is lacking any detail whatsoever. The tastiest of FCC docs are being withheld by request until March 29th -- right in line with a rumored spring launch. Hopefully Microsoft will have more to say about Project Pink and Windows 7 devices here in Barcelona so stay tuned.

If that is truly Microsoft doing, all I have to say is RIP WinMo.
@gollu
Who said this is running winmo? I think it's meant to be more of a feature phone.
@gollu
I think this phone is geared towards girls. A lot of girls love turtles, hence the shape. My sister has a square shape cell phone from LG and she loves it.
I dislike the phone, but it is a smart move from sales perspective.
@omarrpa
It's not only girls that like turtles:

@gollu
This phone is ideal to those who unlike us(geeks/nerds/enthusiast)want a dumb phone or phone that isn't being and is more socially orientated. This is a good move for MSFT.
@IBrian
Haha nice find
@gollu "Project Pink" is an internal name used by Microsoft to refer to a set of devices built from the Windows Mobile 7 framework and Microsoft branded but not Microsoft manufactured. But I guess things are starting to get clearer this time: http://bit.ly/project-pink-new-info
@gollu
Little device for chatting and E-Mails for the normal peoples?...i do not see any problems with that...i know a lot of persons who like that (they use N97 and similar phones)
@gollu
Oh... I wasn't aware that you'd been privy to all the inside info on this phone, not to mention actually using/owning one.
Care to share more about your experiences with a phone that has yet to even be released?
@DaHarder
Even that I've not used the phone - the resolution on this phone will be smth like 400x400 - unusable for any kind of video playback, photo viewing and probably awkward for book reading.
@gollu
And don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out
@omarrpa umm... girls love turtles? I don't know where you got that information from. I am female and I don't LOVE turtles. Nice (and weird) generalization.
@gollu
Plenty of kids, girls and non uber techies will like this phone for its small form factor. The only thing that will kill it is if the carriers try to charge too much for it.
Oh dear, its probably dead in the water then..
@omarrpa
Maybe it's called the Turtle because it's very slow!
@IBrian
Wow...
@gollu Could have told you that 2 years ago
@smkm1023
I did say "a lot of girls" not all, which isn't necessarily a generalization. Perhaps I should have prefaced the sentence with "I know..." to make the finding of this "information" more plausible. (Sigh) Chicks!
What is the screen resolution?
@bob e "What is the screen resolution?"
I believe it's pixel dimensions are FAIL x FAIL.
It's a Moto Karma with WinMo7....just what we've always wanted.
Looks like a 'dumbphone' to me. One designed for music & social networking. Not a bad design for that, I could see a lot of people that I know liking it ( ie people who don't own smartphones)
Not for me though, I'll trick to real phones.
@BGates I've had it out for you since the time you released mosquitoes in the audience that I was sitting in. You JERK!
Ewwwwww.
I actually think this can be good, with a good OS, it might not be all about the looks...
@Very Powerfull Codfish
yeah, this is a good phone... It's called a Pre and it looks a bit better than the one in this picture ;)
Ugh... Just turn the Zune HD into a phone and I'd totally want one.
@ZiggyFromMarsou
You think it would be that simple :o Unfortunately, simple doesn't usually happen with Microsoft.
Hecho en China~ That's always a weird statement to read in Spanish
@joelaf LOL, I was thinking the same thing.
this has FAIL written all over it.
How much do these guys get paid, to design, approve and market this piece of crap?
*Looks at the image* ... *pukes*
@Matej Bajan you should tattoo an apple logo to his forehead
A Pre wanna Be? Windows mobile 7 better be Excellent.
@BGates
If you were REALLY Bill Gates, you would refer to Sharp as a singular, not a plural, as the British do.
Just sayin'.
If this is just a dumb phone, then I kinda feel bad for the Danger folks. I mean, everyone's ready for Microsoft to blow the doors off MWC with Windows Phone 7, which is rumored to have similar-to-Zune UI and Zune functionality. I would guess that they if they're going to announce the Pink phones at MWC, they're going to make it a footnote or maybe even just leave it for the press release.
In terms of the hardware design, I think we need to see it in someone's hand before it makes sense to call "FAIL" on it. It's an awkward design, but Microsoft has been pretty damn good at making awkward-looking products that are comfortable and good to use. The Arc Mouse says hello.
@Fish Face McGee
I'll pass, the design has FAIL written all over it.
ZU as in ZUne?
Welcome to the social, Turtle!
Are cheap feature phones for the masses a bad idea now?
@ChazClout yes.
@ChazClout They are when they're frickin' ugly. And when they use WinMo.
Yes I can say for a fact that we will be seeing MS releasing hardware in April. You will see an announcement about it next week. You can expect these devices to be similar to ZuneHD interface. But what the ability to make calls.
It was going to be announced at CES but hit a last minute snag, and instead of releasing something that wasn't ready they made the call to hold off until MWC
@conflipper
Hey conflipper, can you say what OS this this runs?
@maati I havent looked into it. I have the firmware files, but I just have not taken the time to look inside it.
@conflipper Well, things will become clearer in two days anyway, I think but... man, you have the firmware files of one of the greatest mysteries of Microsoft's mobile strategy?
I have been wondering for months what project Pink is about... and what's the relation to WM7 etc.
You could make some people very happy (including Mary-Jo Foley, who's been wondering about this for ages as well) if you had a look at those files...
It's a Palm Pre on crack.
SOO many phones are coming out, All the pressure is on apple.
@appleipad Except if you recall the MP3 player market. Apple had the iPod which was dominant. Many good solid companies made cheaper, feature laden easy to navigate products that by and large most people considered to be iPod killers. None of them put a dent in iPod sales.
There is a significant advantage to being the fashionable device. Until of course you become dated and uncool. As long as it's trendy to own an iPhone, it doesn't matter if the competitors make a "better" product. Of course, Google has some street cred, so I could see Android continuing to become cool. I just can't see people ever thinking Microsoft is "cool"
Lmao, this phone hasnt even had its specs released and you guys are just shitting on it, nice job, lemme guess though, you guys LOVE apples ipad though?
Either way, this phone looks like its made to be used in the hands of someone who uses social networks a lot. whats wrong with that?
i dont know what the hell you guys are going on about the phone being fail, it looks like it could be great.
although, something tells me that even if this had better than iphone specs and worked better than an iphone you guys would still say its shit, or a copy of the iphone...
@HoldenMccrotch
this phone will sell less than iPhone or ipad. If that's what you're wondering.
The iPhones biggest advantage has been their browser, navigation, apps, solid email and multimedia capabilities. I don't see any new phone changing that.
@jaffreywali
navigation? solid email? seriously? on your iphone, how easy is it to switch from one account to another? how easy it is to move an email from one account to another?
