Microsoft's PB10ZU (turtle) and PB20ZU Project Pink phones outed by FCC?
Oops. Those two pics looks similar, eh? And if we're not mistaken, Microsoft's Pink phone is rumored to be made by Sharp. This wireframe for model PB10ZU just hit the FCC looking every bit the "Turtle" device that was leaked last year. Of course, seeing Sharp behind Pink is only natural since it was one of Danger's manufacturers of choice for the Sidekick -- a team wholly ingested by Microsoft a few years ago. Looking through the FCC docs we see that it's a slider with dual-band CDMA, EVDO Rev. A, Bluetooth, and 802.11b/g WiFi. We also see reference to a second model, the PB20ZU (aka, "pure"?), although that model is lacking any detail whatsoever. The tastiest of FCC docs are being withheld by request until March 29th -- right in line with a rumored spring launch. Hopefully Microsoft will have more to say about Project Pink and Windows 7 devices here in Barcelona so stay tuned.

@lennie22
much easier than my AT&T tilt2. I like the simple back and select. Reading emails are much easier and so is opening and viewing attachments. The calender is also wayyyyy better than on my tilt2. Overall, much better interface on the iPhone. I am saying this after being a windows mobile user since the ipaq 6500 from t mobile in 2002. After that I used an imate jam, t mobile dash and then the AT&T tilt and finally the tilt2. In between I also tried a blackberry curve. The iPhone is hands down a better device than any other phone I've used. It's genuinely a 'great' product. Great hardware, software, design and usability.
Oh no! Oh no! Oh no! It's time to panic!!!!
lets wait and see....but my guess is that this only the beginning...hopefully Microsoft will gothe simple route,not like some manufacturers who just have too many models,it is too hard to just keep up with what the features are on each device
good god that phone is ugly
all i know is that i'm due for an upgrade on verizon on March 28, 2010. so i'm REALLY hoping something good comes out before then. otherwise i'm stuck with buying the Droid. which isn't bad, it's just...ya lol
@Jamfire
Droid, meh. Palm Pre Plus - you'll love it.
@FlashFreeze
eh, i was an early G1 adopter and have loved the Android OS since it came out. i've messed with the pre on sprint, QWERTY is too small, and it just looks overall, bleh. i will try it out again instore again.
It's awesome for girls and doubles as a rock for throwing at MS in case WinMo 7 sucks big time ;)

MS = Chris Griffin

Avert your eyes when the shirtless dude comes on.
I have my doubts on this one. This thing? Come on there is no way this is the next sidekick. The Palm Pre makes sliders look sexy. This thing looks worse then those jitterbug phones. @jaffreywali I think WebOS and Android can easily take on all of those features and more. Android is super fast and WebOS having the best multitasking UI ever made.
So, does this mean that all these rumors have been about project pink and not about windows phone 7?
Ewww. seriously UGLY phone.
Microsoft should of just continued with the Sidekick along with Danger. The sidekick seriously has A LOT of potential it just needed the right people to get it up and running. Seriously, if you've ever used a Sidekick, you know what i mean. It can improve on A TON of things.
Here's my guess: Microsoft will show this off as the flagship WinMo7 device, and call it "Go", hence their big sign saying "Ready. Set.". This seems to add up to me, but hey, I could be wrong. I also really like the name "Go" for a phone, which is kinda wishful thinking.
@StanMe but then it would just be a GoPhone....which would be AT&T's pay as you go phones
Fugly.
Who designs these phones? Kids don't want a "kids phone"? Believe it or not, they want slick iPhone-esque looking phones.
All I want is:
a phone with a large enough screen to read my e books
A OS that allows me to use the reading software I prefer
Texting? Meh
Good voice quality? Yea
Flash or something similar (HTML5 ?)
Dear Engadget,
You're a little late: http://www.zuneboards.com/?p=vB49097
Amyway,
The Pure looks a lot better that this does. This phone really fits the name "Turtle."
My guess is that MS will release WM7 at MWC and it will be just like reported in the WSJ then at CTIA they will announce the Pink phones which will only be jazzed up feature phones with a social networking angle that can access Zune services.
Ah, Mr. Ballmer, it's the 1980s on the phone, they want their Tamagochi back.
If either of those two old leaked concept models look *anything* like what Project Pink ends up being, I think they'll be a colossal failure. Look at the Sidekick LX '09. While it's a bulky phone, it's a pretty sexy looking phone and while it may not be successful in the adult market, it's *widely* successful to the teen demographic even with the success of the iPhone, Android, and Blackberry in that same market demographic.
Shrink the bezel, the keyboard, and the controls on the side, make it lighter, make the screen a capacitive multitouch, up the camera to 5.0MP, up the CPU/RAM, make it more on par with what Android and the iPhone are doing, price it right, and target it at the classic Sidekick demographic. Why the fuck are we getting a phone that looks like a slider version of the LG Lotus on Sprint or an obese Palm Pre?
more like project pink sock
yuck
Pre mini
It may in fact be a smart move if this phone is a simpler phone than it sounds like a lot of you were expecting. The iPhone, at least for now, has cornered the market on a very specific niche of the cell phone market. I can foresee a lot of people who would prefer a phone that doesn't require as much interaction or updating or thought that go into maximizing its capacity. If so, good for Microsoft for trying to beat out a new corner of the market as opposed to blindly copying.
Is it me or does the shape of this phone resemble Bill Gates' head?
FUTURE FAIL
if this is a feature phone, the OS it has to beat is Symbian S40. That will be very hard to do unless they can bring some fancy UI elements in which Symbian (S) phones don't have. Otherwise, the S40 featureset is full enough to be considered a smartphone. And it's pretty easy to use.
There is a market for this device. Just not for us nerds & techies. Keep in mind the feature phone market is much, much larger and easier to please than the smartphone market.
i like it, just needs to be much slimmer though
high school student perspective; go go go!
This phone is a great move on microsofts part, because messaging phones are VERY popular with high schoolers. Just about everyone I know carries around a messaging phone(ie, LG enV, Samsung Alias, ect) or one of those crappy cheap "almost but not quiet smart" phones(enV touch, samsung rouge, LG versa ect). I also notice(and maybe this is just where I live) that verizon is by far the most popular service provider, i'd go as far as to say about 70% of kids at my school are on verizon, 15% AT&T, 10% sprint, and 5% other.
Project Pink seems to fall in that "almost smartphone" demographic, which I think is rapidly growing for people in the 15-18 age range who want to be able to do twitter and facebook on there phone but don't need things like a full HTML browser and email. I feel like if they throw it on verizon it could have huge success thanks to the fact it's got some style(something LG phones don't have...at all....I hate LGs phone designs) for the demographic they're going for. I think it could be a huge success, but its really up to what the carriers do. Verizon puts like a $10 "data lite" fee on all there messaging phones now(which is total bullshit IMO, most teenagers don't care about having web browsers on their phones), but i still think this is leagues beyond most of the other phones its competing with.
Looks like a KIRF Palm-Pre
While everyone has their own opinions on Windows Mobile, I think its good that Microsoft is differentiating into another target market. While I myself wouldn't use this phone, I know a lot of people that would. I can see this having a lot of integrated social networking functionality, and for young teens, could be good.
However, I also see a lot of young teens wanting iPhones more, just for the app store, so how is Microsoft going to compete with that? WIll they create their own app store for this phone?
sharp! why oh why sharp!!?? Samsung or HTC please! Or, even better a zunephone, that actually is the same as a ZHD!
