Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-3t gets unboxed on video, multitouch screen and all
Lenovo's aiming at a narrow niche with its IdeaPad S10-3t, but for those interested in things like "multitouch tablets of the netbook size," the video after the break would probably tickle your senses. Shortly after going on sale here in the States, the good folks over at Netbook News were able to procure one and unbox the whole thing on film. It's not quite seven minutes in heaven, but it's frighteningly close. Have a look beneath the break, won't you?

1024x600... that's no good
@htd is a 720p touchscreen netbook too much to ask? apparently
@htd The screen is bitty, and that is standard fare for netbooks. =)
Not loving the fn key placement (I always hit it if there when using ctrl), small trackpad, or large battery. Hmmm...
@htd I agree. 1024 x 600 simply does not cut it. It is an automatic not interested.
@Ducman69
I have acer 751h 11.6 1366x768, it's a slow netbook with z520 cpu but the screen itself is very nice and it works better with xp than windows 7
@htd UM, guys? Have you TRIED touching an on-screen button that's 1/4" square? Because that's what you'd get with full HD rez on a small screen like this. And Windows doesn't allow easy customization of button sizes.
I have a 12" 1280x800 screen, and I get annoyed when I try to hit the red X, let alone stuff like browser controls and on-screen keyboard. On the other hand, I have an older model with 1024x768 rez at 10" and it's just about perfect.
It's not all about numbers, people. Touch PCs have a different audience than your typical movie-watching video-gaming crowd.
@KidDynamic What are you talking about? I've had a 10.6" convertible tablet (LG C1) since 2007 which has a 1280x768 resolution and have never had any problems with any aspect of touch operation (with or without the stylus). And even if for some reason you did, it's not hard to increase the icon sizes on any version of windows to suit touch.
I'm still frustrated that my ~3 yr old tablet has yet to be matched let alone bettered.
1024x600 is a pointless resolution in this day and age on any 9"+ device (imo).
@KidDynamic This should ship w/ W7, so just change the screen to 150%. You keep the high resolution for movies, but scale up all your menus/icons/etc. That said, I still don't think thats a crazy low resolution considering how small the screen is, and you can still play 800x600 games.
@htd Although the swiveling of this one is really cool to see, Anyway, I think that kind of glitch on the resolution is just minor in a way: http://bit.ly/lenovo-ideapad-verdict
Holy Angelina Jolie-lippage Batman!
I still want to see how good these things are in action. I've heard/read a lot of mixed reviews about how good Win7 is to the touch.
@Gigaflop I'd worry more about the specific hardware, and not about 7. Used 7 on several tablets, including my own HP long term, and it was clearly designed for touch input and adjust spacing and what not automatically. That doesn't mean all touchscreens are equally accurate and responsive.
6:59 and he didn't even turn it on. I know it's an "unboxing" video, but it would have been nice to see if the multi-touch works on it.
Might be something to consider given that the other tablet sold by Lenovo is a X200 and it starts at $1509. So you could get almost 3 of these for the same price. Given the ULV chips and 12.1" screens I don't see you looking a whole lot going with the S10. Might make for some cheap service tablets where you need customers to sign a form which you could then send digitally to them through email.
@KAL326
you can pick up the x200t on ebay with microsoft cash back for around 1000-1150
This unit sucks, I was all excited when I read about it, but once I had it in my hands it felt cheap, the screen is squishy and windows 7 just isn't designed for a touch interface. As much as I would love to have a full system on a tablet, I don't want to have to interact with it like my finger is a mouse. And the processor just can't handle the touch interface very well, it was laggy so much so that I didn't even bother to test out the oddly placed webcam on the side.
@hotwire32 "I don't want to have to interact with it like my finger is a mouse."
What you're saying then is that you don't want laptop at all, let alone a tablet.
@hotwire32 are you sure you were exited about this? your post history implies you only
@Ducman69 (damn commenting system)... your post history implies you only luvz teh Apple products. Busted! :D
Wow. This thing is near perfect. Would like a little better resolution but other than that it has virtually everything that I could want.
It looks very nice, i'd love to have one :)
Not bad for the price. It's nice to have options available. That is a wodge of a battery though. They need to get Pixel Qi's screens in there pronto.
Multitouch on resistive display?
How's that possible?
@sinco while multitouch on resistive is possible (see the newest asus t91) this one is capacitive
I'd definitely like to try it out. I'll stick to my N130 for now.
