What
Google wants, it largely gets. Need some proof of that? Fret not, as we've got plenty right here. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) just granted the internet behemoth authority to "buy and sell electricity in bulk like any other utility." As of now, it doesn't look like Google is jonesing to take on your local power provider, but rather to open up more avenues for acquiring power for its own good. Company spokeswoman Niki Fenwick noted that this filing was made so Google could have "more flexibility in procuring power for Google's own operations, including our data centers." That quote lines up with what we heard when this initiative was
proposed just over a month ago, but considering that it's dabbling in the
ISP business (and pretty much anything else it wants to), we wouldn't
put it past 'em.
It's only a matter of time before blood transfusions are officially known as getting some "Google juice."
@inimicus pretty soon they will want your blood too, besides your private data...
oh wait they already do
@inimicus
The google bones connected to the goooogle bone...
At this rate GoogleNET will become self-aware by 2012... Hey wait a minute...
@inimicus ,
Google bashing is the new fad... hey Google, come to India, shift all your assets here, we will let you operate from tax free zones, we have enough technically qualified people waiting to serve your company. Come and build the most modern energy systems in the world. Come and collaborate with our IITs, IISCs, and IIMs. Together we can show the world what innovation and breaking barriers is. Let these American nuts howl till their throats go hoarse.
@mantrik00
There's a reason ALL the major software companies are in the US and Dubai is falling apart at the seams
@Josh S, Few months back whole of America fell apart and took with it the rest of the world. Nothing happened to India.
@inimicus
Simple... Google dominance... Google will take over the OS market completely through sheer brilliance alone. Google doesn't even have TV commercials, it considers them a waste of money. Its only focus is creating great products and services. And most people who use these services... when they buy a new phone or a tablet, will simply say to themselves, "Why not get a Google OS? I use a lot of their crap anyway?"
Not to mention, there's literally twenty to thirty companies making phones and tablets and netbooks for Android and Chrome OS. Never since Microsoft, has the OS market seen such OEM support for one particular company... who happens to bear the name of Google. Both Microsoft and Apple have one thing to do: pass on their torch to the new kid on the block and retire, quite reminiscent of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson being surpassed by Michael Jordan... For you basketball fans out there... If you don't love basketball, there is something wrong with you... I haven't played basketball for like 3 months..... I'm having withdrawal syndrome.................... Okay I smoked a lot of hash and sativa today...
Google is simply too smart. In this day and age of information, the smartest wins, as opposed to the stone age, where probably the strongest won. This is a competition of brainpower, and Google will continue to expand into other industries until it swallows everything whole. Don't believe me? Think of how Google came out with Buzz... how many people will still use twitter when there's a Buzz button right on their gmail accounts? Email is something that people HAVE to use. Twitter is not. Plus with youtube, people can also post instant videos, not just text and picture, making Google's version of Twitter just that much more superior to well... the original Twitter. In the next year or two, look for the word "tweet" to be replaced by "buzz" in the mainstream media.
@Josh S Wow buddy...you need a geography lesson. I'm American and I always feel like an ass every time one of my fellow countrymen opens up his mouth and says something this stupid. Dubai is in the Middle East, thousands of miles away from the Asian subcontinent where India is situated. Not only that, but it is governed completely differently from India and its goals and the niche markets it was created to serve are completely different. Next time, at least Wikipedia your nonsense before you make us all look stupid.
P.S. Yeah, that's right...I use Wikipedia as a verb.
@NikAmi
I'm a little confused as to where I said that Dubai was in India...
@Mysterius
Re-reading it, you're right, I should have been a little more clear about my point (Dubai as the previous "New USA" and india/china as the "rising replacement"), but that still doesn't really justify NikAmi's condescending and narcissistic response...
@cherryboom
apples and oranges... Starbucks sells coffee... i can sell fucking coffee...
please... what google is doing, starbucks couldn't even dream of.
@nubbily Yeah what he said google would never sell out and gave a one minute super bowl commercial when people are paying a couple million for a thirty second one. That would be wasting money!
@nubbily One other thing you might want to spend thirty seconds to do a precious google search to see just how well the google buzz is doing there bud.
@mantrik00 Dheyyrrre tayken uurrr jaabs
@inimicus lol, wait 'till google monopolize even the very food we eat.. called, "Gfood". As for the part about google ISP: http://bit.ly/google-isp-how-to-get-it
If they can pull this one off to the whole world, then I don't see any reason why not to get it, eventually.
@mantrik00 nuts howl till their throats go hoarse.... reminds me of russell peters over here http://vodpod.com/watch/398713-fuckin-blowjob
@nubbily I see a lot of google commercials, in hulu, during superbowl
@mantrik00
fell apart is a relative term. When you have such low income levels and general backwardness as in 'most' parts of India there is not much to fall apart from.
India is a low cost English speaking market. Not exactly a place where a lot of innovation happens. What's a world class Indian product?just curious....
@jaffreywali
Right.. The world depends on America in a way, and probably always will..
google, I miss the good old days when you were just an advertising company with a decent search engine
@kirbyatemytoothbrush
Don't forget that deal they signed with NSA couple weeks ago. Say bye-bye to your privacy. Say hello to uncle Sam going through your mail and web search history.
@AlfaCat the government already can flag your emails. That's nothing new
@kirbyatemytoothbrush
I just watched Avatar (yes, call me weird) and I'm pretty sure the company was google. I'm just saying!
@haan
now they can also go through your docs (google docs) , health records (google health records), your geographic locations (google navigator) and myriad other things that google offers services for.
@Arkv2
They reminded me more of apple, it seemed like a dictatorship.
I can't let them know I'm afraid...they can sense fear...
...fuck.
@B3astofthe3ast
I kinda feel the same way. *looking over shoulder nervously* It's starting to feel like they're making a new world order. Hope not... *putting tin foil hat on*
@B3astofthe3ast
Google IS Skynet.
@B3astofthe3ast
Google: All your base are belong to us.
Ah, the East India Company of the 21st century.
Whats with this buy and sell talk, i thought google gave away stuff for Free???
@Don G
I don't think you know how the business works, man.
Where does google seem to get all this money. Its amazing how many markets they are getting into. I smell something fishy.....Oh thats just my grandma
Oh god
@Horsebug24
What the hell are you doing with your grandma!?
@Horsebug24 they have as much money as other large companies. the difference is, they don't try to keep all the money for their executives and not innovate, and choose to lobby congress to protect the status quo (comcast, for example). some tech companies are very different in general from other billion dollar businesses. they know that if they don't innovate and come up with hit after hit, their business will die much faster than people who simply run a cable to houses/apts.
google for president 2012'
@JoseNMTE That's a scary thought...
@JoseNMTE if they can run a company this well, why not a country. Has to be better than many of our former presidents. I vote 'yes' for google in 2012.
@petey1111
There's a diff between running a company and a govt agency...
Your govt agency knows it won't be fired and it'll be there long after your term... whereas a crappy company usually goes bankrupt until your friendly govt agency decides to step in and loan them money based on the faith that YOU will pay for it.
No matter who runs government, it will be crap because of its nature.
@petey1111 Meh, better than having President Palin!
''''Ducks under chair to prevent Palin-heads from hitting me'''''''''''
@JoseNMTE
You know how Marx said that Communism was inevitable? I think it's happening.
It has begun, give it 10 years and Google will own you!!!
@1ofdakoolkidz welcome to these United States of Google
@JoseNMTE
Got a nice ring to it lol
So wish I had purchased some google stock earlier
@Evan
As in years ago, not before this little energy thing
@Evan
google is just gettin started, buy now
@Evan still a good buy. I can afford one share, maybe one and a half if someone will go in on it with me.
