HTC Legend clears the FCC
We haven't heard much about much more than a rumored German price when it comes to HTC Legend availability, but the phone has now cleared the FCC, which could well indicate that it's headed over here sooner rather than later. No other details (or pictures), unfortunately, but you can dive into a few test reports at the link below if that's your thing. And if, for some reason, you've yet to be acquainted with the Legend (a.k.a. "the return of the chin"), you can check out our hands-on from Mobile World Congress right here.

Hopefully it's one of AT&T's new Android phones, they need some HTC Android 2.1 goodness.
@treats AT&T def. needs some sort of grow'd up android. not looking forward to the backflip.
@treats
the SAR report does indicate 850 and 1900 bands
@sumx4182 Err, don't get your hopes up.
"Interestingly, FCC documents make no mention of 3G. We’re guessing that this device does actually have 3G capabilities, but doesn’t support WCDMA bands in the United States."
@treats
How many times do I have to say it? If I could stand any American GSM network I would already own an iPhone. CDMA or bust.... at least until LTE...
Nothing about availability? How about http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=195942, which has been thrown liberally in the direction of your Tips page by multiple people and mentioned in comments? Shows both a price and a ship date.
Here's hoping a creative developer can get their hands on one and pull the rom for the dev community. Who knows, maybe they'll be able to get it to work on the Sprint Hero since Sprint and HTC are taking their sweet time.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Desire on Sprint..I would pick one up asap if they did.
The Supersonic sure did drop off the face of the earth after the images leaked. Maybe all the "wow, thats fugly" comments made HTC rethink the design.
@Serus Hopefully this is for Sprint cause it seems like the Supersonic won't be coming out for a long time.
I'm on AT&T switching to Sprint ASAP and don't want the Hero but it looks like I'm gunna be stuck buying it if nothing is announced/rumored by March 15th.
@PlayFlashArcadecom Yeah, unfortunately I can't justify an update to the Legend from the Hero. It's only negligible especially when compared to a Nexus One type of device. I'm ready for a larger screen.
My wife has an iPhone (company issued) and I really like the screen size. It makes my Hero feel puny.
I've had 'em all, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T..and I like 'em all in that order, just wish Verizon wasn't so expensive.
@Serus I'm going on an employee plan so Sprint will be by far the cheapest out of them all for me. My AT&T contract ended on Feb. 9th and I've been stuck with this Touch Pro/Fuze since 2008 and am absolutely sick of it. March 15th is as long as I'm waiting, and if nothing new by then I guess I gotta bite on the Hero :/
@PlayFlashArcadecom
Sprint will have the supersonic out by summer. Wait until CTIA is over before you make a decision on a phone because sprint CEO Dan Hesse and Clearwire have a joint presentation
@jrei14mecom Thanks for the tip, I guess I'll wait until March 26th then.
Regarding Legend availability, there is more known than a German price. Several Dutch websites have already listed the HTC Legend with expected availability in March. Also, the Desire has been listed in several shops with an expected price of €449.
Example: http://www.smartphoneshop.nl/product/90878/htc-legend.html (March 19th as the expected delivery date) and http://www.smartphoneshop.nl/product/91189/htc-desire-silver.html (April 9th as the expected delivery date).
"a.k.a. "the return of the chin""
There is nothing wrong with chin!
There is TOTALLY something wrong with the chin! He let Conan twist in the wind for an 11:35 spot.
Oh wait, we're talkin' bout phones =P..
@ChazClout
I agree, there is nothing wrong with the chin. I actually really like it.
@ChazClout
Well I hate the chin. I want my phone to fit snug and smooth in it's holder and my pocket. The chin is an ugly design element for "difference" sake, sound is not improved, thumb access likewise. It's U-G-L-Y. IMHO
@AniMill
I really beg to differ. If you used one of these devices you would know that the chin really doesn't make it harder to slip in a pocket. On the Hero, it was a creative way to prevent the trackball from bulging out when the phone was face down. Now, not only does it remain because it looks sexy, but because it protects the screen face down and feels good on the face and hand.
im really looking for this one to come out to vodaphone! im going to get the vodaphonebecause of this very cellphone!
im really looking forward to when this phone gets to vodaphone! i will go vodaphone for this very phone!!!!!!!
I know this actually has a negative percent chance of hitting at&t, but I would buy it first day if it happened to. Alas I will have to wait until another non-backflip android phone comes around.
@made2last No, it won't be released in the US officially since it doesn't support any of the 3G UMTS bands used in the US.
Actually the SAR report only suggested testing on GSM 850 and 1900 (in layman's term, 2G). So unit under test might not have US 3G bands.
Probably it's just obtaining permit to roam in the US.
@ToniCipriani Exactly.
I can't believe why HTC can't put at least a triple-band UMTS radio in this thing. It's as if ever since Google put out the Nexus One, HTC decided to ignore the US market (No Desire, no Legend, no HD mini).
BGR is reporting that Desire will hit AT&T and Legend will hit Sprint.
@Taknarosh I'll believe it when I see it. IMO, it won't happen (as much as I want one).
@pika2000 Words is the FCC files with a "Nexus One" like label with AT&T bands was actually for the HTC Desire. Take is with a grain of salt.
A Dutch provider has listed it on it's site
http://shop.www.hi.nl/hi/RAPRD/HTC-Legend/THTLEGNDsi.html
The phone is free with a 2 year subscription for €29.95 per month (including unlimited internet use)
I would drop my Nexi for this IF it had the T-Mobile AWS bands.
@Qbancelli you know your nexus has way better specs, right? and that you would have to pay a huge etf if you were to cancel it only a month after you got it?
@Qbancelli No it doesn't. So keep your N1.
Switchfoot: The Legend of Chin?
Please give me a Supersonic this summer. I'm stuck with an LG cookie until it arrives for crissakes!
