ASUS Eee PC 1018P, 1016P and 1015P prepping for a CeBIT debut
Looks like there won't be a shortage of new laptops and netbooks next week at CeBIT, and if Blogeee is to be believed ASUS will be showing up with at least three new 10.1-inch Eee PCs. The most exciting of the bunch seem to be the executive-aimed 1016P and 1018P, which will both apparently have an aluminum chassis and 14 hours of battery life. The .7-inch 1018P is said to be the thinnest netbook ASUS has ever created, and sport an integrated fingerprint reader and USB 3.0. Uh, USB 3.0 in a netbook? We don't see why not. Finally there's the 1015P, which seems to just be an refresh of the 1005PE with a matte display and a wider touchpad. It sounds triple E exciting, but we promise to find out more on these little guys next week when we are live in Deutschland.

14 hours? Pretty wow if it gets near as advertised.
@Cydoniac 14hrs means 5-7 in practical use.
@FORDY Still not bad if you ask me. My old 1008HA gets about 5 hrs out of what I do with it.
@N900 well well well. thats pretty long
@Cydoniac what about 14 hourS? u think that it will actually live up to that. 14 hours was probably measured with it on running close to nothing! LOL
@FORDY im looking for a contender that will go all day long. see if it says 48 hours then i know for a fact it will be in the line up with the rest of um at 24
@FORDY
Asus is usually very good when it comes to meeting their battery life claims, in a few cases they have even underestimated the battery life of certain notebooks. I have had a few different Asus netbooks, and the batteries have always lasted within one hour of what they said they would with normal use.
@FORDY
My Asus UL50vt gets about 10 hours of battery life (specs say 12), so I would believe Asus
@zsmorr Same here my Asus G71 gets a better battery life then what Asus had claimed.
@Cydoniac
My ASUS UL30A is supposed to get 12 hours, but it's more like 9-10 with 50% brightness, constant internet/school work stuff. At idle, it estimates 14 hours. So it's pretty accurate.
@Cydoniac These are pretty neat. ASUS has been producing some nice netbooks and laptops lately. Yeah, its not going to be 14, but it will probably manage 10 or more in normal usage, which eliminates the need to carry the power cord around since it will last all day.
@FORDY Asus is actually pretty good about being accurate on battery estimates.
@Cydoniac Asuming that's brightness at 40% with no Wi-Fi or bluetooth, it'll probably be closer to 9 hours which is still bloody impressive.
@Cydoniac Each of the new models will sport a 10-inch screen, a chiclet keyboard, a webcam, a double array microphone, and a promised 14-hours of battery life for the 1015P and 1016P. Cases will be made of aluminum. Pricing and more: http://bit.ly/asus-1018p-1016p-1015p-leaks
I would be very surprised if they have discrete video cards in addition to pine trail if they are already touting such monstrous battery life.
@dannyry discrete? u call those things discrete? have u seen pics? but more on topic. NO i dont think these have pine trails.
@emopoops I'm not referring to the removable cards if that's what you're referring to. I'm talking about the pine trails rocking ion or crystal hd.
Ion 2 Plz?
@(Unverified) Seconded.
I could frankly care less how thin it is or what the case looks like. If it doesn't play HD then I'm not interested. Except for the aesthetic differences what has changed? It's basically the same boring netbook formula we've seen for the last 12 months.
I wouldn't mind so much except that ASUS has about ten hundred thousand variations now. They can't make one of those variations with the graphical balls to play hulu streams?
.7 inches? sign me up!
@NoOrdinaryMSFT I know, that got me too. 10.7" did it mean?
That's what she said.
@FORDY No, it's correct, .7 inches. It's the thickness.
Lol, now I'm thinking about what a 10.7 inch thick netbook would look like xD
@JoeJoeJoeJoeJoe "she" being tinkerbell?
@N900 .7" thick? hot damn! if the specs are right i might have found my new netbook! that is one sexy looking machine in the pic.
Buavuaviva! Very Nice!
I'm going to wait for the 1080P model.
They better fix the screen issue.
Until model numbers reach 1080p - I'll hold off.
That picture looks slick. I hope thats some kind of brushed metal, not plastic.
@Nitesh The article says its an aluminum chasis
Asus has always made the best looking netbooks.
@jayayess1190
what about hp 5101 business edition? http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/HP-Mini-5101-Bussiness-Netbook-left.jpg
@Ermal Turkeshi Forgot about that. I like the 5101 too.
The 1018 looks nice, but I wish they'd released it in a 11.6/12" form, since that's where most "premium" netbooks/ultraportables seem to be headed.
Damn I just placed my order for the 1201n, know I can squeeze 6 hours of real time battery with my configuration but god damn I wish I would have heard about this sexified 1018p. How much? What specs? Is it the shitty netbook resolution or atleast 720p?
@Anticrawl
whats wrong? these things ae sexy, but no ion, no 720p screen and they arent even out yet.
furthermore you can send yours back if you really wanna wait for the new ones.
Hey Asus, What happened to my $200 netbook?
Love,
An Asus 900a customer.
@Mightydh
The market price of 701 is $150, and 900 is $230 (in Taiwan).
I want one that's $300! B/c I'm a college student with no need for a second pc, but I want one.
WANT!
WTF... I just bought a 1005PE.
@ToniCipriani
thats sad
sell it
ill'be there, somebody needs some pics between 2-6 March?
I hope we get better resolution than the vomit-inducing 1024x600
@Trax
That is exactly what I was thinking. Cant stand the 600px screen height. Makes me feel claustrophobic.
Hey, I'm new here! first comment!
OMG! I have been looking for a nice laptop/netbook with USB 3.0< I mean I found some awesome laptops but they all had USB 2.0 and this just makes my day! I cannot wait to get it^^
@zerotheloner
Wow, you did a nice job with your first comment. I remember my first comment. So nervous. But you didn't look nervous at all.
Looks pretteh fanceh :>
Hopefully one will have a HD, non-gloss screen. I'm glad the chassis looks non gloss.
Must say it looks very nice in that picture.
The Fn-key placement is very weird though. It is where the PgDn should be?
