JooJoo ship date pushed to March 25 due to manufacturing issues

FUSION GARAGE TO SHIP JOOJOO INTERNET TABLET ON MARCH 25
SINGAPORE -- February 26, 2010 -- Earlier this month, Fusion Garage's JooJoo Internet tablet went into full production with an anticipated on-time delivery to consumers at the end of February. Last week, the company became aware of a manufacturing issue involving JooJoo's industry-first 12.1 inch capacitive touch screen which Fusion Garage was quickly able to diagnose and rectify. The company now forecasts the JooJoo will be sent to consumers on March 25.
The manufacturing issue centers on fine tuning the touch sensitivity of the capacitive screen. Fusion Garage will be providing all pre-order customers with a free JooJoo accessory to compensate for the delay in the delivery of their JooJoo.
Fusion Garage's recent agreement with CSL, its manufacturing partner, has eliminated nearly all of the manufacturing costs associated with JooJoo. The company has no other barriers in the way of product delivery in the new timeframe.
The company apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the delay.

@dark star "multitasking"? It only runs web apps. In that sense the iPad also has "multitasking" with multiple Safari windows. You could say the iPad has tons of things the Joojoo doesn't have, they're called "native apps".
@darksharpie
It only runs webapps? Ahhhh.....
@pukerocket Wow, bitter much?
This guy asked what it had or didn't have versus the iPad... so I answered.
"It has flash, so it is ahead IN THAT RESPECT"
Learn to read. Thanks.
@TMoney2007
It's ahead in 1 respect. Out of about 300. Well done for picking the 1, though.
You did answer, it was a very poor answer though, so I thought I had to add to it
@dark star How can this thing multi-task if all it does is surf the internet.
There are no apps for this, just the web.
@pukerocket A very poor answer? It was absolutely true and the lack of flash support in the iPad is a big deal for plenty of people.
Many people (on this website at least) have decided that they aren't going to get the iPad because it will never have flash support, so it is a perfectly reasonable and germane answer to the question.
What have you contributed?
@TMoney2007
Why do you need Flash? I can't think of any reason really. You might be able to save a few $$ off your Cable TV bill.If money's tight, then I can understand that.
Am I the only one unimpressed by this? $499 and a delayed launch all for a 4GB device that can last for 5 hours (highly unlikely, we all know that there are differences between lab estimates and real world numbers) without any video output options? Sure, HD video playback along with Flash 10.1 compatibility is nice but the advertised battery life would likely be reduced to about 3 hours when doing those activities.
Even when compared to the iPad, this seems priced way too high. It would have been nice had JooJoo released their product on time and with 32GB of SSD storage for $499.
I guess no JooJoo for me unless they drastically increase the capacity while lowering the price and I end up liking my personal experience with one. Until then, my $350 netbook will do the job. Both JooJoo and Apple have a long way before I will purchase one of their "tablets."
@kornchild2002
ever heard of a pocket USB hard drive?
@masta vaan
the point is that that is a stupid workaround, if your carrying a 13inch device around, you don't also want to lug a hdd around?
@masta vaan
5 hours of battery life, adding a powered USB drive to that sounds like a great idea
@masta vaan
Yeah, I have heard of USB hard drives. I don't want to carry around a tablet while also worrying about a portable hard drive (if this even works with them) and some type of external battery. What is wrong with wanting more than a paltry 4GB of storage and 5 hours of advertised battery life on something that costs $500?
JooJoo wants me to pay $500 for relatively unknown hardware, two times less storage than in my $20 USB thumb drive, 802.11b/g (though my ISP won't take advantage of n, I don't have a dual-band wireless router so putting an n device on it would throttle things back down to 802.11g), and a relatively unknown OS with little to no developer support (at least right now)?
Go ahead and waste your money if you want. I just don't see any benefit that this has over a netbook or even an overpriced iPad. At least the $500 iPad has 16GB of storage. That still isn't enough to do anything that I want (other than hold one movie, a very small percentage of my lossy audio library, and maybe a music video or two) but we all know that the iPad's OS will have developer support when the device is released and 16GB of storage is a lot more than 4GB. I laughed when someone else said "2GB or 16GB isn't a huge difference..." and then went on about how cheap a 64GB SDXC card is. Yeah, there is a massive difference between 2GB and 16GB, about 8 times more storage for 16GB. Is 8 times not that big of a difference? Let's see; I can have $1000 or $8000; $10 or $80, 2GB or 16GB... Yeah, the difference between 2GB (or 4GB as the JooJoo has) and 16GB is huge. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves. That and a 64GB SDXC card isn't cheap. It will cost people a total of $850 to purchase a JooJoo and 64GB SDXC card (that is even if the JooJoo works with SDXC) while it costs people $400 for a 64GB iPod Touch or $700 for a 64GB iPad. A $150-$450 difference may not sound like a lot for someone who has disposable money but it makes all the difference in the world for people who will weigh the technical merits along with future potential of electronics and computer devices.
@kornchild2002 Do we even know if we can save anything to the device or is the 4gb only for the OS and buggy browser?
@masta vaan
That would be funny. Just dangling a USB HD from the JooJoo while you're standing and reading some e-book. Or the high tech method of duct-taping the USB HD to the the back of the JooJoo. Yeah, the JooJoo is the ultimate geek tablet. Just add a whole string of USB devices to it to suck the battery down to zero in a few hours.
The JooJoo is a nice device, but besides a few thousand geeks, they're really going have a hard time selling this device to average consumers. BTW, who actually will be selling this JooJoo? Will they have email customer service like the Nexus One did?
So are they still holding all of those people's $$ who paid for pre-orders and were told 8 weeks originally?? Not cool...
@ndukyh They aren't holding the money, they've already spent it.. and the "delay" is so they can get a few more pre-orders before they shut down the whole sham.
@sys3175
I'm sure they've already spent the money. It's like a pre-order pyramid scam. First one's in get a JooJoo and they'll keep producing devices as long as they continue to get more pre-orders. Is this company a well-known company or some fly-by-night hardware shop?
They "forecast" March 25? Sounds like they're leaving the possibility of another delay. Uh oh
Joojoos always making excuses.
...and to think Madoff, run all this from his prison cell, sheesh guys aren't you even a little impressed?!
The iPad will not steel any business from anyone. The people who wil buy them would buy them anyway. There will be an initial rush and then a big fall off.
@69camaroSS
I'm sure you would have predicted exactly the same thing for the Iphone
now that the iLet android tab for $200 bones it out and ship by march 1, who cares about this stupid thing. LMNOP!
@FrankJ
or chrome...
I'm I the only one who is going to buy this? I like Apple, I have a Macbook Pro and some hacked Apple TV's, but the iPad is not something I'm even remotely interested in. This runs Linux, so we could throw on Android, and I'm sure someone will have it soon enough. Plus Flash isn't as bad as everyone keeps saying. HTML 5 is great, but there are some amazing features that Flash/AIR offer that can't be replaced (not yet anyway).
And also, 2GB or 16GB isnt' a huge difference, especially when I can pick up a 64GB SD card for cheaper than upgrading the iPad to 64GB.
I think Microsoft could come out with a fantastic tablet. They are really changing things around.
@rampar
finally, someone with some sense... i agree with you on all the points except for having a mbp...
@masta vaan
Macbook's are great for design. The rest of my computers at home are all PC's. Touchscreen's for the wife and kids and a linux media center for me.
@rampar "64 gig SD card" and "cheaper" don't yet go in the same sentence :) SanDisk wants around $350 for theirs (does anyone know if it's even compatible with the Joojoo's slot?)
@masta vaan
LOL. He wants to buy one, and you think he's the one with sense? Funny stuff, man.
This has FAIL written all over it, from the battery life, to the untested and probably poorly supported OS, to the lack of apps, to the lack of decent media capabilities, to the limited storage space
@rampar This doesn't really run linux. Since no one even has seen the hardware who knows what the capabilities of this device (hacking wise) even is. Ok, we know it has 4gb storage but that isn't really the most important thing if you want the device to run more then a browser. You need to know how much ram it has, the actual chips it is running... I think there will be alot of tablets out there that will do much "more" then the iPad but I doubt there will be many which will get the widespread market approval.. Most people who will buy a touch screen device for web browsing and the like will never care if they can run more then 1 app at the same time, and as i've been noticing with the iphone alot of websites are starting to offer flash free versions of their sites which I tend to prefer anyway.
@darksharpie
What's the big deal about a portable hard drive? A 500G drive is about the same size as an iphone. Just duct tape it to the back of your chosen device and forget about it.
@jedi Or better yet, put all the storage in the cloud, just have a spool of 1000 miles of boosted Cat 6 cable and leave that attached to the tablet. Then you'd have gigabit speed to the internet even if there's no wifi where you happen to be with it ;)
Thank the Chinese New Year for the delay on ALL products
Who in their right mind would buy this thing?
I said... JooJoo ME!
I'd rather have this Atom and Linux powered piece of hardware over the iPad with it's Apple A4 chip and restrictive iPhone OS, but I'm not crazy that it's even bigger then the already large 10" iPad screen. If I get a tablet, I'm gonna get a 7". That's the sweet spot in my opinion.
@kenny goo Unless you can get a real linux distro on this thing, who cares!
I'm sure so many people are just so devastated about this...
I feel sorry for the gullible donkeys that have pre ordered this thing. This is clearly never going to be released, and then it'll be the long road to trying to get their money back from these con artists. What I'm even more surprised is that engadget has given attention to this blatant scam!
Do any of these tablets have an application that will connect to a network drive and stream pictures in a slideshow? Seems like a huge value-add feature to me, but I can't find any info on it.
@jackhappy
Actually, the whole idea of being a handheld media tank in general seems like a pretty obvious idea for these things. This is why some of us had the idea that we could run Plex or VLC on the iPad (before we knew how lame it was).
As soon as they make an ION hybrid touchscreen netbook you can just use MCE or MythTV to do this.
@jackhappy Simplify Media has an iPhone app that does something similar- though it does streaming over the internet as opposed to from a network drive on your LAN. I'd expect they would have an iPad one ready before long.
Thanks for the info guys!
At least DNF was interesting vaporware...
But really, how hard can it be to manufacture all 7 pre-orders they received?
Oh, boy. Only 27 more days until the next announcement of a delay.
A $30 stand may be good enough to appease customers for this delay but if JooJoo is still not ready by March, either the product has to be much better than iPad or it has to offer us some discounts.
http://seventoten.com
I am totally not surprise they will face problem on the touch screen.... it's not a common size. The manufacturing process ....I am not surprise not mature at all...yes you can find many 4in....but lets face it..... you don't see much 7in or 10in capacitivie touch screen product that is out in the market....iPAD is only an announcement.....its not out yet....and here we have a startup with no strong background telling you he got a 12in capacitive touch screen ready. It just look weird. Of course the whole Joojoo thing have been a mess from all the articles we read.....but i am not sure it might eventually slip its shipment date since they are engaging with someone which I notice in their portfolio of manufacturing....never did something so agreesive or new to the market....CSL product seem like using existing technology....not something like this..... maybe I am wrong....but let see
I just watched how this joojoo performs on youtube. How can a terrible device like it be so popular (on gadget at least) ?
