Nokia's Series 40 to 'offer a compelling touch experience'
Even though it's lived a long, fruitful (some might even say wildly successful) life as Nokia's one and only high-end feature phone platform, Series 40 is suffering from a bit of an identity crisis now that S60 pushing deeper than ever into categories traditionally considered dumbphone strongholds -- one needs to look no further than the C5 to see that strategy in action. So, what's next? Quite a bit, actually. Cellularmania appears to have gotten hold of an official document assuring developers that the company is continuing to drop money into taking Series 40 to the next level this year, promising a "compelling touch experience" along with confirmation of earlier rumors that we'd see dual-SIM devices for certain markets where it's a big deal. It's still unclear what kind of mix we're going to see in Nokia's product portfolio 5, 2, or even a single year from now, but Series 40's still got a seat at the table -- for now, anyway.

Still not a performant OS
@AttT
neither is the iphone, your point? Has it ever occured to you Yanks that not everyone wants the latest Android or Apple (well maybe some do on the latter) incarnation. I can guarantee you that as a frequent traveller going to France/Germany and Spain (I'm based in the UK), no one, and I mean no one gives two flying hoots or two tosses about Android, very few people own a Milestone/Droid or any other android based handsets. They really don't care, Nokia and Iphone pretty much rule the markets here. Plus, it appears only us geeks know much about Android, the casual consumer really couldn't care what Android is to them.
@williamlau05
I'm talking business, you can not imagine what the iPhone can do, forget about those selly app, let's talk about ORACLE and SAP client and the SECURE ID generator, it's much powerful than a blackberry. So you think nokia will do the same???? I don't think so!!
Why would anyone want Series 40?
@Johnny Rockets
Outside America, Nokias are everywhere, the second most common handset is the iphone. With this and free Ovi maps and what the MAJORITY of the market want (which is not touchscreen phones btw), think Nokia will stay at the top for a damn long time, sorry Apple/Google/Microsoft. I'm no fanboy in case you're wondering.
Finally! S40 needs to be completely redesigned from the floor up.
It was only a matter of time, really. Plenty of touch handsets are nipping at Nokia's heels in the low end and Symbian is just too much OS for that market (both the hardware and the users). With all this S40 talk, what's going on with S60 3rd? It seems to have been pretty much abandoned, albeit in a pretty usable state now that FP2's out.
