Nokia C6 is actually a 5230-ish landscape slider?
We hate to turn your entire world -- nay, your very belief system -- on its end, but it's at least conceivable here that the so-called Nokia Mystic with the portrait QWERTY keyboard may not be the upcoming C6 after all. Instead, Tom's Guide is submitting this bright white exhibit as the device lucky enough to wear the C6 name, a phone that looks a whole hell of a lot like a 5230 with a QWERTY slider tacked on for good measure. That would make sense considering Nokia's goal of turning the freshly-introduced Cseries into a midrange, consumer-friendly brand; this phone could easily slot in below the N97 Mini, for example, particularly in light of rumors that the phone will lack the N97's beefy internal storage. Word is the C6 is pegged for a European release by Summer, so start cleaning off those 5800s and 5230s for eBay right now, why don't you?

Another awe inspiring device from Nokia!!! *yawn*
@Mentat
...And multitudes of amazing devices every month from our very favorite company, apple!
/s
@Mentat
Hey, at least it's got a 4 row keyboard and a vaguely central keypad.
And I'm sure that it'll be a lot cheaper that a lot of its competitors.
@xbit
I wasn't referring to the iPhone, I am just saying with the slew of keyboard devices out on the market- this thing does NOTHING do differentiate itself from the rest. and paying less for touch S60 is still paying to much.
@Mentat
I don't know. I don't mind paying to much...as long as it's some mighty good muching.
@Mentat I know it's fun to downrank people for not sharing your opinion, but as a long, long time Nokia user this is exactly correct. Boring, uninspired designs and train wreck GUIs.
no S^3?... the waiting game continues...
@skyblaze
I think that this IS actually S^3...
@efekt
If you were an S^3 obsessive you'd know that its actually an S^2 device.
S^3 is still not nearly completed, still have a fair bit more work to be done before devices are shipped.
S^3 devices probably wont be shipped until at best summer of this year.
@skyblaze S^3? I want S^4 to come already...
@ALBGunner04
WOOOT a fellow GOONER!!!!
@spartandre217
Nokia has stated that its skipping S^2, so if it isn't S60 or S40 it'll have to be s^3.
@spartandre217 Hehe :) Loved the ass kicking we gave Porto this week. Crazy game
@ALBGunner04
Nasri's goal....best of the CL thus far....hope we draw lyon in the next round too.
Nokia claims they're skipping S^3 but the n97 has quite a few s^3 elements under the hood.....check it out for yourself
@spartandre217 Funny thing to notice... didn't expect to see any soccer fans in here. Most commenters are too busy fighting and yelling at each other over how one device is better than the other... and such
I'm quite happy with the fake Galactico exit from the CL. Particularly the waste of the 280 mil euros to buy all star players and nothing transpired.
Real Madrid = Fail.
@xirsteon
I watched that match and could not help but laugh....made my day!!
@skyblaze
I feel so left out and out of the loop... sucks being american right now :(
@skyblaze
awwww....well start watching the sport!!
@spartandre217 Hyhyhyyyyyyyyperlink!
@skyblaze It's probably S^1.
@spartandre217 Porto fan here. But it was a well deserved beating.
BTW, that's S^1, aka s60 v5..
Dear Nokia
Thanks for finally going with a design I like now how about an operating system.
Good job Nokia. i personally don't like your phones, but many people in Europe looking for a phone like the one above would definitely disagree with me.
Wait, is that S^3? And if so, could that make this the first S^3 device? Hmm. Either way, it *looks* a lot better then most of the bulky phones Nokia puts out, and if it runs S^3 then it at least has a chance at a passable OS. Those are good signs, lol.
@kenny goo that's NOT s^3. it's the same old s60v5 on a touch interface. s^3 isn't coming out till later this year, on the N8. *waiting eagerly*
looks nice in white
Perhaps they'll launch first in Iran, since they already have that spy-equipment sharing arrangement.
Dear Nokia: F.U. -- and I will never buy your crap.
" "menu" "open" and "contacts"..really, nokia. you still can't think of anything different to do with that screen real estate? "
lets see what happens this time..
[the words are different this time, but it still applies]
@glenskey
Well those shortcuts are customizable by the user so you could always change em to whatever you want.
Nokia will sell millions of this phone.
if this got a capacitive screen then its a winner. low-mid range phone...
what about the Nokia X10 with s^3 when its coming out.. is it even real?
cmon nokia drop/leak the highend flagship.. my April upgrade is coming really fast! im waiting for meego and N-series phone.
Will Nokia EVER figure out how to make a THIN phone?
@obobo the e72 is nice with a blackberry-style layout at 9.9mm thin. the e52 is nice and thin as well, and both phones look great with their aluminium bodies. of course, those phones get little press here, but it's not to say they don't exist.
@obobo
Thin doesn't necessarily mean best.
I have a 5800XM and I just love how it feels on the hand (ok, there's the "That's what she said" joke coming). It feels natural. And holding it horizontally (to take pictures) is also easy and comfortable. I have an iPod Touch, so I can compare. I much prefer holding the 5800XM.
The iPod Touch/iPhone is thin, but so what? It's still a bit too big to fit nicely in your jeans pocket. Thin is overrated.
@WickedEast WTF kind of jeans do you have that an iPhone won't fit in them nicely?
@obobo
Thin sucks. "Thin" is synonymous with "flimsy, consumer-grade crap that's going to snap in two under a slight breeze". Furthermore, _every_ single thin device falls into the uncanny valley visually; they just look _wrong_, like when you visit a movie set and you see those dummy houses where you just have the façade and nothing behind them.
@WickedEast The iPhone is roughly of the same size as an average wallet, which is something that you'd expect to fit comfortably in a jeans' pocket.
If you have trouble putting in or taking out your wallet, your jeans are too tight. Not good for your sperm count.
@obobo they already have. ever seen the X6 and the prism series (granted, the prism series is crap, but it's thin nevertheless.)
It is just... boring, nothing new. Wish there is surprise
Any word on the price?
I waaant an iPhone ! But I have verizon.. D;
the spacebar is in the middle of the phone now !!! hoorah
look nice, but I hate symbian Apps certifacte things!!! get rid of it!
@eka i'm assuming you mean "certificate", and it's not that hard to circumvent. you can change the settings so that it ignores certificates. i do that on my s60v3 E65 all the time.
Oh well look at this. Not bad at all Nokia. Ditch the damn D-pad next time for 4 arrow keys instead. Otherwise, it looks pretty good for a somewhat entry level QWERTY device. And man there's a lot of haters on this site.
@LessThanDug
Agreed. If this packs 3G, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and comes in around $269 in price, I think they could have something good on their hands. By the way, for everyone asking, that OS is S60 5th Edition aka Symbian^1 with some elements from Symbian^2 (the homescreen and one would assume kinetic scrolling)
@LessThanDug Guess I missed the infamous spacing in the middle of the keyboard. Fools... Can't they just make a normal QWERTY, like the one on the E90 with no stupid spacing in the middle of it, and four rows with the spacebar in the middle, and no D-pad, just four arrow keys?
If it uses new HW platform then I will buy it. My Nokia N80 is aging pretty fast.
Hopefully like the 5800, since the 5230 doesn't have wi-fi.
