Confirmed: HTC HD2 will not be upgraded to Windows Phone 7 series

Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5
A look back on popular stories from today in a specific year.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
no WP7 on HD2 seems fair, but Marketplace will be the only way to get apps on Windows Phone 7 Series seems a nono to me... have to wait and see what happen in xda ...
Why even bother? So many people wine about they *have* to get the HD2 *now* because it has Snapdragon or whatever that they just *cannot* wait.
Just freaking wait. I am sure there will be a HD3 or something like that by the end of year.
Of all the people spouting that xda will rescue the HD2 by releasing hacked firmware, how many of them are going to put their money where their mouth is? Who's really going to take the gamble that their shiny new phone (w/ 2 or 3 year contract) might be painfully obsolete 7 months from now?
Once the Supersonic comes out, someone on XDA will port it for the HD2, I'll be at my Tmo store on the 24th.
I have been using the iPhone on tmobile for 2 years now and I'm concidering switching to the hd2.. love the iPhone but sick of suffering from update anxiety (tm) and EDGe! I'll admit that it hurts to think about all of the wasted iPhone apps I wrecklessly purchased. I'll admit that I have been softened by the tender hands of apple and it may take me a moment to adjust back to wild west of the pocket pc. I suppose I'll always be able access all of those purchased apps.... On my new IPAD!!! Yeaya..
No Bing button, No WP7S. MS made that clear from day one.
@slipdisc
Wasn't actually that clear, hence this article, where MS has finally confirmed that this is the case.
That's shit. Bring me a whiskey.
wow, way to kill any future HD2 sales MS, well done.

Thank god. I know you people are all excited for WP7, but I like multitasking, and installing my own apps from cab files (rather than Microsoft telling me what I can and can't have). Also, I really don't care what anyone says, Htc's UI on the HD2 is so much better than the mess that WP7 has become, its not even funny.
now that we see how things are turning for winmo 7 (no multi-tasking, no app installation outside marketplace) maybe HD2 users don't want winmo 7 anymore anyways.
Give us HD3 then.
This has been obvious for months now why would anyone be surprised?
HTC better make an android HD2
This is a very bad move on both Microsoft, HTC, and T-Mobile's part.
The button thing is ridiculous...Buttons can be remapped through software. It's clear this decision is all about profit, but then again what isn't these days? Now, if the USA HD2 would have been released in November 2009 like it was in the _rest_of_the_world_ then I don't think anyone would have cause to complain. But almost 5 months have gone by since the original launch....this is NOT a good PR decision, and this will only make windows mobile and windows mobile devices look even worse to consumers at this point. How much further can WM's market share drop before WP7S comes out? Anyone wanna take bets? :P
Never mind. HD2 is still very good and by the time Win Pho 7 Ser is out, I'll be looking for a new phone anyways... ;)
Had my hands on this phone the whole weekend. Was amazed by the size of the screen (dwarfs the iPhone) and the thinnest of the phone. Everything worked great on it. Makes the iPhone look like a red headed step-child. Any HTC HD2 owner should not be disappointed it is not being upgraded to WinMo7. Just use it for now and hope you drop and crack the screen by Nov. That will be my excuse.......
I bet some hacker man guy will get it loaded and booted with official windows 7 junk.
Will the mini have 7 series?
The lack of "upgrade" for the HD2 is nothing at all to do with 3 buttons. It has to do with the micro SD card. WP7s phones do not have that. MS want to be able to control your apps. Therefore the HD2 will never get Wp7s. Forget whinging about the number of buttons. It is a red herring.
I wouldn't worry about the HD2 being Windows guys. Think about how the Nexus One got a leaked ROM from the HTC Desire with Sense. The Supersonic's ROM will get leaked and put on the HD2, fortunately that device has the same amount of buttons as the HD2 and the same exact pretty much everything for that matter.
I hate you microsoft.
Just went to TMobile and asked if they had a demo I could play with before they put it on the shelves this Wednesday. I've got to say, even with all the pictures online and here at Engadget, its an amazing looking phone. The video was impressive, menus were quick, camera took good pics, and it really does look/feel like a huge screen. Oh and if you were wondering if the B&N eReader would be too small to read, it wasn't.
Even with the WinMo7 problem, I'm still buying.
i thought it was official? i thought they were upgrading it
I got the htc HD2 about a month and it has been a big disappointment, not because of the phone but, because of the OS. I'm constantly getting Error Messages when I check the weather or use the Visual Message. The phone also is inoperable when I go to Voice Command; try this on your phone: Click on Start, Settings, Other (miscellaneous settings), Voice Command, now press the Home button. The phone now is inoperable and to make it work again you'll need to Power Off the phone and turn it back on. HTC didn't know about this problem, I was the first one to make a complain about this. Unfortunately HTC can't do anything about it because it is a problem with the OS. One thing I would like to mention is that if you use the Arrow button instead of the Home button you'll not see the problem. At this point the company is waiting for more customers to complain before they do anything about it. So, please if you're having problems with your phone call HTC and complain, the number is (866) 449-8358.
