Doubtful. WP7S isn't CE 5 based like the past 3+ versions of WM have been, so it's not going to be nearly as easy as it has been in the past. It may require a different bootloader, and it most certainly will require new drivers. So unless HTC makes a device with nearly identical hardware (Not just CPU, but Bluetooth, WiFi, etc), HD2 owners may be SOL
@EGOvoruhk: possibly, but people at XDA and elsewhere have been able to create full fledged Android ROMs for a number of WinMo devices (not just haret launchers).
Since the HD2 meets WP7S expectations except for RAM, I imagine a future HTC WP7S phone will be the key to getting it on the HD2.
@Alan Strangis The other problem is Android is open source Linux based, I think that made it a lot easier to port. Microsoft is tighter closed than a ... well, use your imagination.
@EGOvoruhk However, many WM6.5 owners will be on long contracts and MS needs lots of users on WP7S right from the start to get the app store pumping, so they might just let it happen for the first few months at least. Given the income they will make from apps I think it is in their interest. They also need to get WM6.5 users hooked on the new UI rather than having them jump ship to Android come upgrade time.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Correction, Confirmed: HTC HD2 will not be **Officially** upgraded to Windows Phone 7 series, but the XDA upgrade is right around the corner.

Not to mention that Microsoft has let XDA do its thing... but they will certainly sent a cease and desist letter, causing XDA to remove all WPS7 Roms.
XDA has always respected MS's desires, even though the last couple letters were faked.
Bottom line - WPS7 costs more per phone, and ported ROMS go around Microsoft's bottom line. Thus, they won't let it happen.
