MSI announces GE700 gaming laptop for those who like to be entertained
You can't go more than a few days without MSI dropping another new laptop, and today's is the GE700. It's not only 100 more than the GE600 from a few weeks ago, but a little bit bigger, sporting a 17.3-inch LCD with an unspecified resolution, up to a nine cell battery, and room for dual hard disks of up to 500GB apiece. Graphics are again handled by an ATI Radeon HD5730, processing again done by an Intel Core i5 chip, and there's a 720p webcam for live-streaming your every blemish. No word on price for this 3.2kg (7lb) machine, but MSI doesn't tend to waste much time in getting these things to retail.

Seven pounds is pretty light for a 17.3 inch machine. I wonder if that includes the 2 hard disks and nine cell battery.
@Sakiel
Actually, I was thinking 7lbs seems heavy for the way it looks (it could be the angle of the shot). It looks fairly low key yet attractive. More details on this would be appreciated.
do my eyes deceive me? is that a good looking gaming laptop?
@25i
Your eyes DO deceive you. If they'd have committed fully to the design it might be nice. But alas, it's half-assed.
Maximum of 500GB per drive. That's pretty sad for a gaming rig. My old school HP DV7 has a 640 and 500.

Pretty sad for a gaming rig? You get a full terabyte on a laptop and your whining over 140GB? Also, 500GB @ 7200 rpm is the best you get at the moment for traditional sized laptops.
How many megapixels does it take to be called a 720p webcam?
@Flustercuck
1,280 * 720 = 921,600 / 1,000,000 = ~ 0.9 MP
@Mr Blurrycam
haha.. i guess if you're a blurrycam it would be .9mpix..
Actually you needed to mulitply by 1M... 9Mpix...
@hfm
Or no.. you're right.. which sounds odd but I suppose it's true..
Depending on the display.. the Asus N61JQ sounds like a better deal..
I'd like to know the screen resolution.
Asus N61 is smaller notebook with a lower resolution. Here one would expect at least 1600x900.
Also, 2 HDDs is perfect. One can be later replaced by SSD and Game ON! :)
@Usta
I have an N61JQ, and to tell you the truth, the 1366x768 resolution actually keeps games playable at sharper native resolution. So far I really like it, especially since it was under $1K.
Though I will readily admit, the display resolution and viewing angle is the achilles heel of the N61JQ, and with the 5730 being about equivalent to a desktop 4670, you aren't going to be able to increase resolution too far with an external monitor and maintain frame rates with eye candy turned on.
I played some Risen with it on my lap yesterday and with everything cranked to high at 1366x768 it was pretty speedy. Heat management is good too as long as you don't put your hand in front of the vent, the bottom stayed cool enough to use without a lap pad.
Depending on the price, this might be a better buy than the M11x
@Fail57
lol. You're comparing an 11in portable rig (M11x) with average gaming to and 17in full gaming rig (this post).
Shall I explain the futility of comparing apples to oranges?
