Bandai Rilakkuma netbook gets touchscreen and CPU boost, as precious as ever
We've heard some folks (we're not naming names) disparagingly refer to netbooks as "toys" from time to time. Of course, when a manufacturer like Bandai cranks the cute factor up to eleven we can't say that it's an altogether bad thing. Like its predecessor, the Rilakkuma SX features 1Seg TV, webcam, Bluetooth, and WiFi. Putting the "next" in "next-gen," this baby features an Atom Z520 processor, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD Super Multi, and an 8.9-inch (1280 x 768) convertible touchscreen. Built by Kohjinsha, this one is reportedly coming to the Bandai Namco online store in June for ¥90,000 (about $995).

when will it get an "attractive" design boost? LOL. dont like the yellow but the face is cute thats about all though!
CUBBYBEAR? IS THAT YOU?
@iLi3kTuttles Looks like pedobear.
That hinge makes it look like this could be a tablet/touchsreen netbook, which would make it much more interesting.
@deanm it is, if you look closely on the photos, you can see the screen is turned http://en.akihabaranews.com/?gallery=1&post=39892&origine=39892&image=004
Is that face -
Yeah it is.
@JimJam707 free webcam w/ MIR to /b/
Bandai?
The same people who own Power Rangers?
So an atom with 1 GB of RAM and 60GB of HDD at just under a thousand?
Somethings not right here, and it isn't the bear.
@GenericMessage Seriously, the price is just wrong - I'm sure they'll be able to dupe some unsuspecting parents into paying a thousand bucks for something that costs about 1/8th of that to manufacture.
@Pickaxe
I want now now now!!!
jokes :)
*insert joke about the looks*
$995 for a netbook!? Only Apple can do that!
@Bobot no it has a hdd vdd player and tv so apple would mac ones like this for macbook pro costs
@University of Pi
what?
KILL IT WITH FIRE.
Shame about the cuteness and high price tag...
Touchscreen convertible netbook is rare all by itself, and exactly what I'm looking for.
In the sub-$400 region, that is.
Also not many netbooks have a built in TV tuner, DVD Drive, 8.9-inch (1280 x 768) touchscreen or $995 price
@Professor Hubert J Farnsworth
Lmao!!!
Pardon me, but i just can't stop punching your netbook!
I would buy if it wasn't $1000, love that bear.
Rebadged and Pedo-Bear-ified Kohjinsha SX3
http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/08/kohjinsha-sx3-gets-reviewed-on-video/
Been out for a couple years. The neat thing about it, other than being a touchscreen convertible, was the fact that they squeezed in an optical drive.
When did creepy become cute?
Kohjinsha is friggin' awesome. They were putting out 7" 1024x600 convertable touchscreen laptops with DVD drives before the EeePC was even released.
And the EeePC at that time had a lower resolution, no HDD, no Bluetooth etc.
THey basically make the best small laptops. Too bad these are quite expensive.
Pedobear... now with touchscreen? Really?
Forget all about this notebook. Even the old one they mention, i wasn't able to find or buy at all.
So no pedobear notebook for me :D
this bear isn't as smart is rilakkuma, rilakkuma brings laziness to a whole new level
