EVGA Classified SR-2 fits two Xeon CPUs for 24 threads, exemplifies overkill
Remember EVGA's seven-GPU motherboard monstrosity, the W555? That experimental beast of a board just got declassified -- and given immediate launch orders. Under the new "Classified SR-2" callsign, the board's layout has hardly changed since CES (though the heatsinks certainly got a makeover) but the big news here is that each of its two CPU sockets will support those fancy new six-core Xeon processors. As you're well aware, two times six is twelve -- and since each of the Xeon 5600's cores can handle 2 threads, you're looking at the basis for a 24-threaded powerhouse for mondo multitasking performance. Factor in enough slots for 4-way SLI, CrossFireX and 48GB of RAM, and it's not hard to figure out why the red-and-black HPTX (15- x 13.6-inches!) creation commands a $600 price point. The only questions are how much a full system will deplete your wallet, and how many fuses your house will blow after pressing the power button.
Correction: Just a note that Intel's Core i7-980X isn't supported here, but the new Xeon 5600 CPUs are.

good lord just kill me now
every person, man, woman, or it, is pleasuring themselves in some way because of this thread. I on the other had. Will be waiting till i get one to make a porn scene with it. :)
the perfect board to put in my thermaltake level 10 case ... next step desktop pc world domination !
Mmmmmmmm...so unnecessarily necessary.
Lets see after a quick search on Pricewatch etc. I come up with these prices:
Motherboard direct from EVGA: $600.00
Fastest 5500 series Xeon listed on Pricewatch: $1438.99 each x 2 = $2877.98
EVGA's own GeForce GTX 295 CO-OP Edition: $550 each x 4 = $2200.00
RAM Kingston HyperX 16GB sets (4sticks of 4GB in a set) DDR3 SDRAM at Newegg: $889.99 each set x 3 = $2669.97
Grand total of $8347.95
And we still need power supply's, a case, hard drives, DVD drive etc etc etc..... of course this would be faster then "The Stig" on Top Gear
@SkonOfVulcan First person to buy me the motherboard, two of the video cards I listed, the CPU's and RAM and they can have my current PC, My car, my recombant trike and both of my rifles.
SR2? Does it have a mass effect core?
@Timerider
No but you still need a crapload of Element Zero to power the thing. You DID get the scanner and probe upgrades, right?
@HookEmHorns
LOL!
Ain't enough planets to get enough Eezo for this thing...
I'm gonna start the build on one of these in the next month or two.
Motherboard,CPUs, Power Supply(EVGA has a 1500W coming up?) and RAM first(only 24GB at first).
I have two GTX 295s that can hold me for awhile.
Then, I will finish out the RAM and think about liquid cooling...
May have to bite the bullet and get it liquid-cooled.
Don't like it but, it may be the only answer for this monstrosity.
Only 8 SATA ports? for a $600 server board, you'd think it'd have a gazillion.
I just jizzed..in...my pants!!!!!
Crysis 2 benchmarks anyone?????
