WiMAX-enabled HTC Supersonic rumored to debut on Sprint at CTIA
There's hardly anything here that we didn't already know, but an unveiling date of "next week" sure catches our eye. A new report over at The Wall Street Journal confirms earlier details that were fed to us over Sprint's first-ever WiMAX smartphone, and now we're learning that the HTC Supersonic will be officially revealed to the world at CTIA next week. We've heard before that the carrier anticipates selling a 4G phone "this summer," but you can bet we'll be digging for a hard ship date and price tag when we hit the scene in Las Vegas in just five short days.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Finally thank god!!! Now I need to go change my pants.
That picture is of the Incredible, not the Supersonic.
Pleaaase come to the UK
N1 just announced for Sprint, but Supersonic has better specs and larger (lusty) screen. I believe it has both 4g (Wimax-style) and 3G radios and looks first for 4g then goes to 3g if no 4g found. Wimax is basically a long-range version of Wi-fi.
I've been looking for a reason to dump AT&T, and this phone was it. Been putting off buying new phones because I want something that's 4g & 3g compatible because even though NJ will be outside Wimax, Philly and NYC will have it so I'll be able to use 4g when I really want to. Sadly the Philly Wimax range is about 5 miles short of where I am.
I think Sprint's going all-in with these latest moves, and I hope they pay off. If Sprint keeps itself as a bang-for-buck carrier, it will recover from customer losses. I don't believe the losses due to Cust Svc were the primary reason - the lack of great phones has been the cause. If CS was the reason people kept a network, then Tmo would have grown by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. Tmo hasn't grown because it's not available everywhere.
I'm willing to try Wimax and Sprint now because they're available now. VZW and AT&T have had the resources to bring LTE further along, but they haven't by choice. Sprint chose to go ahead - it will prove to be the right decision as I expect them to start the win streak as soon as Supersonic and N1 hit the shelves.
All of this is indeed true. I can absolutely confirm it exists and will be available in less than 3 months.
will the SUPERSONIC make it to EUROPE?
please tell me that all the talk aboot SPRINT does not limit the phone to north america only.
Anyone know when this is coming to europe?
Dunno whether to get the Desire wait for this.
And the T-Mo HD2 receives another death sentence, and both before the device even launches. Wow.

@xTmDarren
AMOLED, really? I figured it would use a standard LCD like the HD2, that would be a pretty dang big AMOLED screen.
http://androidcommunity.com/sprint-htc-supersonic-arriving-next-week-20100317/ is the link of where I seen the specs.. I also heard about the 720p rumor but I haven't really seen anything. This is really going to be a toss up for me and a windows 7 phone... Im a big xbox live gamer so I like the added content for that on the windows phones coming out..
@xTmDarren
This Supersonic phone has me near sighted ,I cant see waiting for windows 7 ...although I may get that when it nears.For now Supersonic!
The stars have aligned for me.
I'm eligible for an upgrade on Sprint.
4G is coming to my area in May.
HTC Supersonic is launching around that time.
I love you Palm Pre, but unless you can get a WiMax phone out soon, I may have to see other phones.
I have a sprint business account and was emailing with my rep the other day and told her I was interested in the Supersonic and wanted to be added to the waiting list if there was one. She said it was expected to be released in August. It may or may not be true, but thats what she said. I'm expecting June, myself.
Yes..!! Finally Sprint mans up to this phone and claims it's child. Us loyal Sprint costumers deserve this phone. I know I've been patient and finally looks like it's being rewarded. Hopefully this will be released VERY soon. Not too fond of a summer release. April would be nice..
@HustleHard101 April is almost a necessity at this point. With the Nexus One coming to Sprint and the WinMo7 just around the corner, there wouldn't be a lot of reason to wait too long for this phone unless you think 4g is some huge revolution. The Super is supposed to ship with Android 2.1 which will render this phone behind the times if they wait more than a month or two to release it.
next week can't come fast enough!
been with Sprint since 98. Love this carrier. Best pricing. Now getting some great phones. Glad I was too stuborn to move to another (stupid iphone) carrier. Now I'm just torn between the N1, or Supersonic.... I do love my webOS but kinda don't like my pre...

I really hope that it doesn't include WiMax, because if it does it won't launch in the UK, and that's where I live!
And i have been awaiting this device for months!
