It's a mighty aggressive schedule for a handset that
hasn't even been announced yet, but the latest scuttlebutt regarding the
HTC Incredible suggests that the phone will make its debut on Verizon's airwaves about two weeks from now. It was already known that the Incredible was destined for a rendezvous with Big Red, but this latest word solidifies and specifies that future nicely --
and it's claimed to come directly from internal sources at Verizon. There's also
further mention of 512MB of DRAM allied to a downclocked Snapdragon CPU (capable of 1GHz, running at 768MHz), an 8 megapixel camera, a 1,300 mAh battery, and body dimensions almost indistinguishable from those belonging to the Nexus One. Good thing too, since Verizon is
still keeping us waiting on a mysterious Spring release of Google's own-brand phone. We get the feeling
Android 2.1 and
the new Sense UI will fill that gap nicely, however, and if you really
must have that 1GHz speed,
there are ways to achieve such things too.
[Thanks, Carson R.]
@steel
Verizon does offer a data only package but you have to have an unlocked phone first.
If this is all true, I will have a terrific birthday April 1st. Or it will be a terrible April Fools day joke and I will be sad.
Does this have 720p video recording as well?
If so, I'm buying it.
@DoctarPeppar
I've read many times that it doesn't :/
This rumor is probably spot on. With all the recent news of the N1 for ATT and Sprint, along with the Supersonic, Verizion probably leaked it to keep people from leaving soon
Pretty sure that wallpaper is the album art for the red hot chili peppers album Californication, which makes the phone that much more awesome.
@filthyj24 Nope - awesome as that would have been. You can see the panels for the Sense UI clock widget peeking out over the blur. The blue up top is just the color of the area surrounding the widget.

@filthyj24 I think you are trying to prove to me that the Chili Peppers cover was on the screen? Not sure - if not, please explain. I looked up the art before I commented. The SenseUI Clock widget can be seen over the blur, beneath the status bar at the top of the screen. If you want to see what I mean, Google Droid Eris and look at a picture.
Better yet, here:

Someone PLEASE tell me, should I get the Incredible or Nexus One?
@steakman
Personally, I had considered the N1 for a long time, waiting for it to drop on Big Red. After seeing the confirmed specs of the Incredible, I am definitely going with the Incredible. 1Ghz Snapdragon, 512 Ram, 8MP camera, FM tuner, Sense.
I really wanted to buy the N1 just to support the open Google sales scheme. But when it comes right down to it, I can't justify spending $529.00 on the N1 when I can get the Incredible subsidized and get to try it before I buy it in-store. Add to that Google's added ETF's, and financially speaking, it just doesn't make sense to buy an N1 anymore - that is, unless, they can beat the TMo new contract price for existing VZW customers (and I don't see that happening.) My New Every Two is up in May and I am hoping they may have cut the price on the Incredible slightly by then.
Plus, I think the Incredible looks sexy as all get out.
Both are excellent phones, but I'm going with the Incredible.
@steakman
Steakman you sound like a man with a certain stature and wisdom. Get the Supersonic
I just want to know if you can adjust the processor back to it's full 1Ghz speed.
@RoscoV3 If it gets rooted, and HTC bothers to follow the GPL, then yes. It all depends though - a lot of Liquids are having trouble getting that high.
The 768MHz part, Engadget, for the LAST TIME, IS NOT UNDERCLOCKED. It's a 768MHz variant! It was binned lower!
This is my next phone...
I hope HTC decided to use a better touchscreen and not the crappy one we got on our Nexus One.
So... How about a relase date big red? my backberry has a cracked screen and I'm tempted to get a droid but I know I should wait.
Ok, one more day to go to still make your "within 2 weeks" prediction, Engadget.
Do we know if this will come bundled with external memory?
