Netflix streaming, ABC, and 1,348 more iPad approved apps revealed

There's also a free ABC app tipped for April 3rd giving iPad owners WiFi access to full episodes of shows like Lost and Grey's Anatomy. And with CBS seemingly getting into the HTML5 game we suspect that the demand for Hulu in the US will dampen if all this comes to fruition -- especially if Hulu adopts a subscription model. Not enough? Then check out the 1,350 (and counting) approved iPad apps in the source link below or preview 700 of them in a video after the break where you'll also catch a few more Netflix and ABC screenies. We'll have to wait until Saturday to see how many of these actually appear in the iTunes App Store.
Update: Looks like these apps are coming straight from Apple's app database since AppShopper is also showing Netflix and ABC Player iPad apps. Don't believe it? Then why not grab some screenshots of your own direct from Apple's servers. This is legit folks.

@WP7S
I was going to reply and say something about the iPad, but I have a feeling I will be attacked by Jobs' mob of minions into oblivion. So maybe we should all relax a little and appreciate how emotional we've become over some pieces of silicon wrapped in some pieces of plastic.
And yes, I believe WP7S can make that observation without being out of line. And no, the iPad is either 600p HD (which is perhaps just a little better than 70-year old NTSC standards) or not 16:9 (hence not the same aspect ratio as what the rest of the world believes to be HD, and will not fit on the screen). Get over it, the iPad too has it's setbacks.
@HighestRanked2
"lost" as in banned. You're just as much of a troll as WP7, just more passive aggressive.
Seriously, one time you almost jizzed on the comment section over the iPad and iPhone.
@antibala Thank you :)
I really really hope that Netflix, ABC, CBS has closed captioning available on the iPad and iPhone.
Shit got real. Killer app.
Game over, other manufacturers should save face and not even bother with releasing a tablet.
@BrandonHarris
And cartoon computers (Courier).
I hope this isn't April Fools. Because I'm really pumped for a Netflix iDevice app.
But if they stream videos, won't this kill episode sales (even more) in the iTunes store??
@Plazmic Flame
Yes, and this is why A) Apple is adapting their pricing model, B) discussing subscription systems with content providers, and C), continually points out the iTunes store IS NOT A PROFIT GENERATOR, it exists to support device functionality only, and they really could care less if people drift away from the store as long as they keep buying devices!
@zelannii
That's true. I definitely think a subscription model would be much better than the per episode prices right now...they're are not appealing at all.
@WP7S
Standard Definition = 480p
HD Lite = 720p
True HD = 1080p
The iPad has 768 lines of resolution when held sideways. I believe that qualifies for being in the realm of HD.
By your definition, most broadcast channels isn't HD since they usually transmit in 720p or 1080i. By your definition, most "next gen" games aren't HD cause they're in 720p or 1080i.
@xolan99 you need to learn what those terms mean.
720p = 1280x720
1080i = 1366x768
1080p = 1920x1080
ipad = 1024x768
the iPad's width resolution isn't even enough for 720p [1280 vs 1024], so it isn't an HD supporting resolution.
I really couldn't care less about the iPad getting these apps, what I'm hoping for is that they are simultaneously released on the ipod touch and iphone so I can actually use them on a device I have. If I'm home, I'll be watching tv on my computer in hulu and netflix on the xbox on my HDTV. If I'm out and about I don't wanna be carrying around a big ipad when I already have my ipod touch on me.
I still have yet to see a legitimate reason to buy an iPad instead of sticking with my touch.
@burkhartmj I hear the iPad has a larger screen ;)
We need Netflix confirmation before this can be truly believed. All the evidence, thus far, can still be forged.
@antibala
Good link but that guy took a damn long time to do an unboxing and wouldn't stfu with his remarks. Could have done a damn review in that timespan...
I'm going to buy it... nuff said.
@WP7S
yep. Netflix is so much better on a 3" screen. Don't we all hate big screens?
Wow. This is one of the reasons to get an iPad.
If this is April fools joke....i will laugh my ass off at all the people defending it lol
@WP7S just because it's not against the rules doesn't mean it's acceptable. Or as the saying goes, just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. You're probably the guy who'd poke a bear with a stick and then complain, from the hospital bed, that the bear didn't say not to. Or the reason we have warnings on coffee cups that coffee is in fact hot, much to everyone's disbelief. When will they build a maturity filter for these sad sacks?
@burkhartmj
You are wrong on one account
For HD content
720p is 1280x720 progressive scan (16:9 aspect ratio)
1080i is 1920x1080 interlaced (16:9 aspect ratio)
1080p is 1920x1080 progressive scan (16:9 aspect ratio)
In addition to all this there is frame rate also. Bluray movies are typically 24 frames per second even at 1080p. So, it is 1080p24.
DirecTV and many other distributors were starting to use 1280x1080i for their broadcasts (this is not 16:9, but the receiver will convert it to the correct 1080i spec). A lot of people protested this by calling it HDLite.
The iPad is not a 16:9 device. Its native resolution is 1024x768 giving it a 4:3 aspect ratio like analog TVs and older computer monitors. While I would have liked a 16:9 device, 4:3 was probably more suitable for still pictures, books, etc. If Apple had chosen the 1280x1024 resolution then then can fit a 1280x720 video without any scaling. So, the iPad is not an ideal movie viewing device.
I have a concern. I'm seriously considering getting a 3G capable iPad when they are released later this month, but I question whether or not AT&T will put restrictions on what I can and cannot view through the 3G connection, just like they have with the iPhone. Will this Netflix app be able to stream movies and TV shows over the AT&T 3G network or will it be "banned" by AT&T and be limited to wifi only? If I can stream over the 3G network, I would pre-order this device, but if I cannot, I don't know whether or not I would be able to justify the purchase. At home, I can just stream whatever I want, flash video and all, through my mac. If this could extend my streamable boundaries, then I could really embrace this product. What do you think?
@burkhartmj I stand corrected.
But can somebody also explain why the Zune HD is labeled as such when it is a 480x272 resolution?
If it's simply because content on the Zune can be output in 720p then I see no reason why apps and movies in such resolution can't be labeled as HD as well.
@bommai Maybe not "ideal", but at a >10" screen it's still going to look pretty decent just because it's "small". Also, color is about as important as resolution for video and it looks to excel at color (at least for a device this size and price).
With these networks switching to HTML5 to accomodate the iPad, does this mean I can go watch shows on these flashless sites w/ my nexus one?
damnit, i think im gonna cave in.....
no no no, i'll get the next one....
DAMN YOU APP STORE.
Does ths mean that this so called netflix app doesn't use silverlight since silverlight hasn't been released for iPhone OS? What kind of DRM schemes are there for iPhone?
@antibala
Be sure to watch it in TEXTp FTW!!!
@burkhartmj
Oh my God!!! Why is everyone freaking out so much about this HD bullshit! It's a 9.7" screen - not a TV!!! Who gives a shit if it's 720x1280, the reviews are saying that the display is very nice with a very high pixel density.
I think the haters are running out of things to bitch about since it's looking more and more like this thing is going to be a hit, so they're complaining about some apps having HD after them? Get a life
@HighestRankd Black bars won't save battery life unless it's an OLED type display. The black parts of the screen are still lit and active on backlit LCD/TFT.
there is like 4 episodes left of lost why bother
BREAKING: APPLE APPROVES MORE THAN TEN SOMEWHAT USEFUL PROGRAMS
This looks and sounds cool, but unless you plan on getting the 3G model and use it outside a lot, I don't get the point. I have Netflix on 4 different devices that's connected to my 47 Inch TV, I'm not going to be lying in bed thinking I really want to watch TV on this thing.
Do You Need Extra Income?
Do you have a PayPal Account? (If Not the set up takes 10-15 minute)
Does $50 000+ in your PayPal account sound like something you'd be interested in?
That's Right. $50 000+ dollars in your PayPal Account.
IT WAS PROVEN ON OPRAH
You have most likely seen or heard about this project on TV programs such as
20/20 and Oprah, or you may have read about it in the Wall Street Journal.
If not, here it is below - revealed to you in step-by-step detail. This
program is by no means new. It has been in existence in many forms for at
least a decade. But in the early days, it required a lot more time and
effort, as well as an investment of a few hundred dollars. However thanks to
PayPal and the Internet, the investment is now virtually ZERO! And what's
more, the entire process is FASTER, EASIER, and MORE LUCRATIVE than it has
EVER been!
How to Turn $6 into $20,000 in 30 Days with PayPal
I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I SAW HOW MUCH MONEY CAME FLOODING INTO MY PAYPAL
ACCOUNT. I turned $6 into $20 000 within the first 30 days of operating the
business plan that I am about to reveal to you free of charge. If you decide
to take action on the following instructions, I will GUARANTEE that you will
enjoy a similar return! STILL NEED PROOF? Here are just three testimonials
from the countless individuals who decided to invest nothing more than $6
and half an hour of their time to participate in this program:
"What an amazing plan! I followed your instructions just three weeks ago,
and although I haven't made 15 grand yet, I'm already up to $9 135. I'm
absolutely gob smacked." -Pam Whittemore , Ohio
"Well, what can I say? THANK YOU SO MUCH! I sent 40 e-mails out like you
said and then I just forgot about the whole thing. To be honest, I didn't
really think anything would come of it. But when I checked my PayPal account
a week later, there was over $5,000 in After 30 days. I now have over
$11,000 to spend! I can't thank you enough!"-Juan Tovar, NY, NY
"I was shocked when I saw how much money came flooding into my PayPal
account. Within three weeks my account balance has ballooned to $12 449. At
first I thought there had been some sort of error with my account!" -Richard
Barrie , Boulder,CO

what you need to do.

Receiving PayPal Money!
You are now ready to post your copy of this message, to at least 200

All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post, the more money you
make - as well as everyone else on the list! In this situation your job is
to let as many people see this letter as possible. So they will make you and

HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS & MESSAGE BOARDS

posting. Simply hold CTRL key and A to select all, and then copy, either
with CTRL+C or select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire
letter into your computer's clipboard.
Step #2) Open a blank 'Notepad' file and place your cursor at the top of the
blank page. From the 'Edit' menu select 'Paste'. This will paste a copy of
the letter into notepad so that you can add your email to the list. Or copy
to a Word Document and Place in the email upon completion.
Step #3) Save your new Notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your
postings in different sittings, you'll always have this file to go back to.
Step #4) Use Netscape or Internet Explorer and try searching for various
newsgroups, on-line forums, message boards, bulletin boards, chat sites,
discussions, discussion groups, online communities, etc.
EXAMPLE: go to any search engine like yahoo.com, google.com, altavista.com,
excite.com - then search with subjects like millionaire message board? Or
money making message board? Or opportunity message board? or money making
discussions? or business bulletin board? or money making forum? etc. You
will find thousands & thousands of message boards. Click them one by one
then you will find the option to post a new message.
Step #5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message
by highlighting the text of this letter and selecting 'Paste' from the 'Edit'
menu. Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as
they scroll thru the list of postings in a particular group, click the post
message button. You're done with your first one!
Congratulations! THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to different
newsgroups and post away. After you get the hang of it, it will take about
30 seconds for each newsgroup!
REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS AND/OR MESSAGE BOARDS YOU POST IN, THE MORE
MONEY YOU WILL MAKE! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200**
That's it! You will begin receiving money within days!
ABC's app looks better but they both are content limited due to the studios not allowing to stream more videos. I also made a review about these apps here: http://www.thehdstandard.com/hardwaresoftware-solutions-for-streaming/netflix-and-abc-streaming-videos-on-the-ipad/
