Aceeca's PDA32 keeps the PalmOS dream alive
We'd heard earlier this year that Aceeca would be sticking with PalmOS for at least a few more devices, and it looks like those hopes have now finally become a reality in the form of the company's PDA32 device. In addition to a leading-edge, one-inch-thick design, this one packs a 320 x 480 display, along with a 400MHz Samsung S3C2440 processor, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of flash storage, an SD card slot for expansion, and optional Bluetooth and WiFi (in case you don't need such things). Still no official word on a release date, but a preliminary spec sheet that's turned up lists April 10th, and a price of just $199 -- belt holster not included.

Remember kids, THE POWER IS YOURS!
Greetings Slaves, I come here to applaud this new Aceeca PDA, Nostalgic Value is strong with it. And to tell you that I, the greatest sith lord of engadget have an iPhone OS4 preview video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8rWsDAcCbY. Maybe I should do a merciless video of this PDA32 as well?
@Lord Vader : Hey Dad, look, it's PALM OS! Can I haz it?
$199? I could have something 3x more advanced with that cash.
@TheLukeSkywalker Oh great, an imposter. The last thing i need is another freakish child, away with you at once.
@CaptainPlanet
Finally some real competition for the EVO.
The sad fact is that this device can still do things the iPhone can't. It allows third-party apps to sync data back to the computer. It has notes with categories. It has to-do lists with categories. You can set a default alarm for new calendar appointments. When you sync with your computer, you can have the PDA overwrite the computer's data (iTunes idiotically only allows the opposite).
Elementary stuff that Apple still doesn't get.
@Information Central But it does not run Flash. Yet another device joins the cause.
@CaptainPlanet Real funny Engadget, but april 1st has passed. There's no one on this planet who would want that abomination of a phone.
I hope Darth Vader and Captain Planet fight....
@Information Central
Congrats on inserting Apple into the comments of an article that didn't mention Apple. When whining about a company consumes you this much it comes off as really pitiful. My phone is a Palm, but I certainly don't go around gnashing my teeth about how other people don't share my opinions regarding what to buy.
Congrats on not reading the other comments, and making a lame attempt to misrepresent mine.
Hooray!
Watch out Windows CE 3.0 Users, this thing may have you beat out!
Hey Man Palm's still got some game I'm look at that!
The future is looking bright!
@Alexpeegs
Yea. "This might just save them from going under".
@Alexpeegs This has nothing to do with Palm.
Palm sold off Palm OS to ACCESS for the longest time and it's actually called Garnet OS now.
Palm OS....how I miss thee
This just in PalmOS outsells WebOS in April 2010.
Palm OS will never die. Styletap (Palm OS emulator) already available on jailbroken iPhones and works great.
LOL wut
Brilliant! Finally it is time to sell my Touch HD2.
The impressive thing is that the specs seem "androidificable"... the cpu is the same as the chinese N19 or the FreeRunner, however, it has a lot less ram and flash
It's the redneck iPhone! (Fat, white, can only do one thing at a time.)
@len
I can drink beer and watch TV thank you very much!
@len cause your iPhones multitasking capabilities are excellent. /s
@herloboy I think that was the joke.
Yeah, but does it have a math co-processor? It's not powerful enough if it doesn't have a math co-processor, oh and a dual-scan lcd screen.
@apeguero I know I'm missing the point, but even the iPhone 3G and most Android devices (outside of those with Cortex-A8 and presumably Snapdragon) don't have a math coprocessor. ;)
@bhtooefr I'm not comparing this to an iPhone. It's meant to be funny. You know, har har funny not aha funny.
Whayyyyyyyy.... would one do that?
@allston232 I have a feeling this is aimed @ the medical field. You see Palm devices all over eBay pre-loaded with specialized software for nurses and nursing students.
@MikeMc
When I was a medical student, I used Epocrates on my Palm TX for drugs/iSilo for medical info & documents. It was the best ever; and then the Palm Centro. But I do think that the Palm OS is old and ancient. Please let it rest in peace.
@allston232
Hey, good to know there is another physician commenting here on engadget, when I was doing my internship I had installed Epocrates and hundreds of medical eBooks on my HP iPaq 116, I am also a Tech Geek, bought my Nexus One about 2 months ago, and I am supporter of Open source, Linux and Android.
I think Palm should make a tablet with WebOS, that would be really useful, by the way they need a better appstore.
@allston232 Epocrates just recently came out on Android, if that helps anyone!
@allston232
Doc here. Epocrates on iPhone is waaaaay better. I hung onto my Treo for all my medical apps and took the plunge with the iPhone 3G and haven't looked back.
But yes, this does look like it's for a specialized market.
@Valicore
I know and already have it installed on my Nexus One
@allston232 similar story. I had a bunch of medical reference stuff on Palm devices, then migrated to the Pre. Epocrates and Lexi-Comp are both available on WebOS, and both rock.
What is this? Is it a mobile?
@Apple Google Microsoft YES, it is an Auto-Mobile.. you see the dimensions on this sled??
@Mrwirez
Ha! Very sharp, good :)
Cutting edge technology.
@Balleroes
Cutting edge? More like bleeding edge! Actually...wait...my eyes are bleeding, one-inch thick?! Holy molly!! This this is a weapon...
A more elegant PDA, for a more civilized age.
At last, the circle is complete. I left but as a learner, now i am the master
@Lord Vader SUCK IT!
Only a master of evil, Darth.
This Star Wars crap is really getting old.
@Lundmark. It's all these impersonators and Jedi, they must be destroyed
Avant Go. Ugh. I really didn't need to be reminded of that piece of crap.
Can we file this to the Crap Gadget folder?
At first, I thought, why? Still it would never be for me. Then, I do know those who use and love their Treo's and PalmOS, it would be great for them. I understand, even my thoughts would be, time to move on. Android, iPhone, Meego, Symbian, WebOS pick your poison. But to those who want it, fine.
