Now that everyone and their grandpappy's thoroughly caught up in tablet frenzy, it's time for some of the lesser beasts to start coming out of the woodwork. Next up? The Archos 7 Home Tablet, which just garnered the last bit of FCC approval it needs to see a late April release. With a comparatively slow 600 MHz Rockchip RK2808 inside, don't expect the Home Tablet to set speed records like its younger brother, but do look forward to a reasonably competitive price when the video-friendly Android device arrives stateside. See what it looks like with a paintjob (and sans "Ewe" logo) in our video from CeBIT after the break, or peek pics of an government-sponsored teardown at the source link.
@Broderbund If you're talking about the U.S. you're talking about 300,000 million people. Even if 200,000 wanted tablets you're still talking about enough people for the market to rise. Don't forget that after 3 years of the iPhone OS Apple only claims relationshp with 50 million of 6 billion people wordwide. And yet they make plently of money with that tiny fraction of the population.
@Meekermoloko Archos have been making MID's like this for around 7 years. This is only being called a tablet because every journalist in the world is jumping on the apple hype.
considering the ~$200 pricetag, its not bad as a web browser/PMP. if you're looking to do any intense multitasking or gaming, you shouldnt be looking at a tablet. i would buy one if it works well. and remember, people used to pay over $300 just to be able to play DVDs on the go, so this isnt bad if you arent expecting super computer performance.
I love that it uses what appear to be a Android OS, but that touch screen is for @#%!. What happen to Archos, they use to be the tops when it came to gadgets like that. I still have my Archos 650! Now they put out half ass and slow crap like that, COME HP SLATE!
@RLJSlick If I recall correctly, Archos is the company that charges you extra for A/V codecs and who release a similar 5" tablet with Android that *didn't permit access to the Android Market*. That and their software is consistently buggy.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
Ewe? More like Eww. And just because the media is force-feeding tablet news doesn't mean we're all in a frenzy! =p
@Ducman69 I don't know anyone who even wants a tablet and yet there is a lot of news out there saying a lot of people are buying/looking to buy them.
Who are all these people?
@Broderbund
People with money to spend.
I will probably never buy a tablet, unless i have the extra-extra money to spend on it.. but they look fun to use :)
@Ducman69 Ewe? Are they mocking the consumer who buys tablets as sheeps!?

Awww... that's cute.
The Archos 7 is trying to fit in.

@Leeknows
I know that ... it was a joke.
"Tablet" is easier to say than "Mobile Internet Device."
I don't even own anything Apple.
Did Archos finally realize no one likes resistive screens?
OH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THIS WORLD!
does that first image say "Love You".. (ie. L - Ewe)..
Btw. EWE is a german company with a own telephone and mobile devision. They normaly sell energy, gas and oil.
@DatAndi
.
nerd.
@uHorndog well I won't call myself a nerd but.. I'm german and a customer of EWE too.
If I were them... I wouldn't want this video on a gadget site like Engadget.
The scrolling in that video was a disaster. Yeah... I'm sure it was "pre-release" hardware... but still.
Oh wait... isn't this just a big Motorola Droid?
Sorry... I couldn't resist. :)
@Michael Scrip Droid? There's no physical keyboard on this
@Michael Yes there is no physical keyboard then what is bothering you then.....
yawn, just the big version of myTouch 3G.
same applies to ipad, just a bigger version of the ipod touch.

@RLJSlick Yikes HP Slate. Nothing about that seems worth while. Intel Atom Z series? Booo! What a waste.

Brace for another Archos failure.
