Lenovo Skylight launch pushed off to July, IdeaPad U1 Hybrid still on track
Today in announced-at-CES product delays, we bring you the Lenovo Skylight. Last week when we inquired about the whereabouts of our review unit (or even an order page), we were told that the Skylight's April release date had been pushed, but Laptop has uncovered that the super thin, Snapdragon-powered smartbook has actually been significantly delayed until July. According to the a Lenovo spokesperson, the company is still working to get things just right, and we're actually not surprised considering the software we saw at CES was far from fully-baked. Oh, but there's good news! The IdeaPad U1 Hybrid, that awesome tablet / laptop combo, we also checked out at CES seems to be right on track for its June release date. Given that the tablet part of the U1 runs the same Skylight Linux OS as the smartbook, we're a bit skeptical on that one, but the that doesn't mean we aren't hoping and praying to get it in our hands ASAP.

Holy round corners Batman.
@Coufu
^^Epic win.
@Coufu this thing totally creeps me out i mean what the heck when did they desing this sucker? last decade or something?
Maybe they are pushing it off cause they are buying Palm and are going to put the webOS as the Tablet's OS when you pop it off... hmm?... we can dream right?
@mrkalel
That is a good dream. Previously they said the tablet would use a Linux OS and the full laptop would run off Windows 7. Still, seeing webOS on more portable devices would be an excellent thing.
@mrkalel BTW... I played around with this @CES, and it really is a great price of machinery... but the OS that is running of the Tablet is a bit pokey and slow.... not that usuable.... maybe they have tweaked it?
@mrkalel Would be Awesome. U1 Hybrid with win7 laptop & webOS tablet = WIN. But ain't goin' to happen, *sigh* :-(
@grapeDrank, agree...
That, is, UGLY!!
@n0ne indeed it is. It's a pancake computer!
The U1 Hybrid is certainly a cool combo computer, but if it's still priced at $999 will anyone buy it? I hope they've been able to come down on their price quite a bit to make it more attractive.
@Raikus
Considering its both a laptop and a tablet in the same package, its not that expensive. I could see myself getting one.
A iPad might be half the prize, but, looking at the feature adds you get on the U1, its actually a bargain... if you copare to other tablets, it might not be.
@n0ne
Looks like it has a shiny black fro'.
But it aint no jive turkey!
@grapeDrank
I donno why, but that looks like a blackberry bold to me.
@grapeDrank
Niiiice! Now the IdeaPad U1 is teh tablet/laptop I have been waiting for!
..and yes the skylight is pretty ugly
If they halve the price and double the RAM we may be in business.
@gbj GOOD CALL. I was wondering what this computer reminded me of; definitely my blackberry. Not sure why it's so pricey, but it is pretty sexy and thin. Still, with a name like "Skylight" and wireless support, I figured it would be a little more cloud-oriented. 2 GB of cloud storage is weak.
@grapeDrank
its about time somebody made a super skinny laptop for under a grand! do you know how much sony and lg are charging for their skinny laptops?? i would gladly pay $500 for this!
Ah yes the U1, i want wan!
@grapeDrank "Smartbook" is this BS some in the industry are trying to push that we would be content with the size of a netbook that only had the performance and basic capabilities of our pocket-able cellphones. Thanks, but no thanks.
SSDs are also ideal for netbooks thanks to enhancing quick bootup, shock resistance, small size, and lower power draw. Even a cheap one is fine, and its nice and silent which goes well with my silent fanless Dell Mini 9 netbook. =)
I'd like a netbook with awesome battery that lasts at least 8 hours and does not cost as much as a macbook lol
So Im here waiting for the skylight or adam =D
Anyone got something better with awesome battery? lol and oh yea, it has to be lightweight
That's the cutest little fu**er I've ever seen. lol
Big bezel is big.
