HTC EVO 4G to get boatload of accessories in Sprint stores
So we just got handed some sort of Sprint "overview deck" going over some of the HTC EVO 4G's finer points -- and rest assured, there are many fine points -- but all told, there's not a lot new here; there's no release date that we can see, and we're already well acquainted with its 4G hotspot capability and the major features of Android 2.1 integrated with Sense. That said, our attention was drawn to the last couple slides, which reveal a bunch of accessories that'll be available just in case the phone itself isn't enough to max out the plastic. Specifically, there's a dock with HDMI out ("likely" available after launch), a car mount, screen protectors, several kind of cases and gels in every color of the rainbow, and a couple different kinds of replacement shells -- one multi-color kit with a handful of snazzy shades, and a custom design option that sounds similar to what T-Mobile has done in the past with some of its devices. Oh, and there's another gem in here: a battery charging holster -- something along the lines of a Case-Mate Fuel, from what we can tell -- that'll come after the initial launch.
That's about it as accessories go, but we'd like to call your attention to the second slide in the deck, which calls out a mysterious "Segment 1" as Sprint's primary target market for the EVO 4G, with "Segment 6" gaining importance after the phone drops in price -- possibly around the holidays this year. From what it sounds, Sprint actually has all of its target demographics grouped into numbered buckets; we'd love to know what they all are, but needless to say, you can count us (and probably most of you) in this fun-loving, awesome Segment 1. You know, the cool kids.
[Thanks, Crimmage]

@Insomnihack We have 4G in the cities that matter, and it will switch back to 3g when not using 4g.
@stabbytheicepic
Sweet. You lucky yank bastards getting such a dream phone! Here in Australia Telstra has the fastest 3G network in the world (up to 42mbps) but no announced plans for 4G yet. I imagine we'll be waiting a long time for a phone of this calibre.
What type of download speeds can you expect with 4G on Sprint?
@Insomnihack 42mbps??? Is that a real life speed? If it is, it's 3x faster than Sprint's 4G network... I need to move to Austraila right now.
@Uion1715
As always the maximum wireless speed quoted is a theoretical burst speed, however test reports indicate it is possible to maintain download speeds "close" to that limit with a strong signal.
Believe it or not they plan to double that speed to 82mbps by the end of this year! Although given Telstra's exorbitant pricing no one will be able to afford it anyway.

I was burned by Sprint with the Instinct. I hope the EVO lives up to the hype it's generating. That being said, if Sprint doesn't get it out soon, I'm going to wait to compare it to the 4th Gen iPhone.
I've been waiting for ages for this phone to come out. By ages I mean since Google has announced Android. I held off on the Hero and Moment because I didn't have an upgrade and when I finally did get my upgrade the phones were out dated.
That car mount would be useful for trips when using the navigation. Can we get a release date on the phone? Sprint knows for certain this thing will be selling like hot cakes including these accesories, which are instant profit add on's. I can't see myself spending $30-$40 on a car charger that will most likely be had from other online sellers at $10 or less shipped to my house.
@dontbotherme Agreed. I honestly head straight to ebay for that kind of stuff. It really pisses me off when Sprint reps try to sell me a $40 holster, car charger, etc that I can buy online for $25. And that's with shipping! The mount however, I will definitely pay for. lol
@jerack
Yes I can see myself buying that car mount, but I will be getting the rest from other sources not named Sprint lol.
42mbps? 4G here in the US is only 3-6 mbps. Your 3G might be from the future or alternate reality. Just sayin.
We can hardly wait to take off in the HTC Supersonic...SPRINT release it already!!!
@Eliasj Damn it, why can't we have this on a GSM carrier? There's no way in hell I'm switching to a CDMA/WiMAX carrier for a phone, no matter how sexy, both out of principle and because of European travels. But mainly out of principle.
this phone will likely keep me at Sprint...
goodbye Winmo ... UglyPhone7 just don't work for me
I know I'm probably 1 of 3 non Sprint employees posting to this thread..... but.......
Sprint should of had this device out NOW not in later. It doesn't matter if it's better or worse than the new iPhone. The EVO will get creamed in sales figures because there exist too many people in love with Apple and they'll steal the spotlight.
Of course Sprint employees, hardcore Sprint loyalists and mobile enthusiasts are foaming at the mouth for this wide phone, but outside our bubble nobody will care.
Sprint again needs to get this phone out now and bombard the airwaves before it's too late. Believe me there are better phones than this about to hit the horizon. I know Sprint is strapped for cash which hurts their ad budget but if they're going to put all their eggs in one basket might as well do it now.
Going back to marketing, Sprint really needs to do this hard.
For one, the 4G network is not available in many areas and even then it's not necessarily faster than the faster 3G networks around. Simultaneous voice/data isn't even promised.
AFAIK, Sprint isn't being truthful about operating a 4G network when their specs don't match up to what is considered 4G by the ITU. Neither is Verizon's or AT&T's upcoming LTE networks which will also be underpowered and overpromised.
I am more excited about this phone than I think I've ever been for a mobile device... EVER!
@viditbhargava yeah I agree... Their marketing team for this device really needs to push it hard. This phone has a ton of potential but it could all go to waste if no one knows about it :(
Just saw a website with a release date and price. Don't know if it is valid, but it sounds in the ball park of rumors.

"Sprint HTC EVO 4G will be launched on June 13. Sprint HTC EVO 4G will be priced at $ 299 after $ 100 mail in rebate."
i will jump ship!! ..... sorry att. :-/
Has anyone noticed the typo:
Slide 8: "Get up to speed on all the great things the PALM PRE offers"
@pizzaman
Haha, I saw that! Too funny...
@pizzaman It's just a draft! It's not the official thing!!!
I have seen many cases for the HTC Evo here http://www.htc-evo-cases.org looks really promissing.
I think that launching many accessories alongside with the mobile phone will boost its sales
Never used an HTC phone. The hardware and specs on this thing are def nice. But I have a question about HTC phones. Is the OS basicly the same? It seems every HTC Phone I see has that same home screen with with the over sized clock on top. Just wonderin.
Did anyone notice the white Iphone in this pic, hmm.....

Wonder if there is anything to this retail site selling the EVO 4G for $899.99

Ha! Ha! I don't feel that bad anymore knowing that your plans have to raise from the original unlimited service. I was about to shed a tear because my HD2 is lacking some features.
