for Moorestown isn't the only morsel of Intel news to come out today. In an earnings call today that kicked off with word of a 288 percent year-over-year net income increase -- its "best first [fiscal] quarter ever" reportedly -- Intel CEO Paul Otellini said, "the next innovation coming out on Atom is dual core, which comes out in the second quarter." Given dual core Atoms already exist for
nettops, we're gonna guess he's referring specifically to netbooks. That jibes pretty well with what we heard about the supposed
D510 remake as N500. Guess we've got something to look forward to in the netbook category over the next few months.
And the race to make netbooks completely indistinguishable from low-end, full-size laptops continues.
What is the point of this product category again? (Typing this on Eee 900).
Intel is not exactly blowing my socks off this year.
I love slim netbooks like the X series by Sony - fantastic in every respect except the processor. Yes the ATom is good on power drain but so it a computer that is turned off and speed wise with the atom - there isn't much difference. They need to crank it to about 3GHz - while it will be slow in comparison to a real processor it won't make me want to gauge my eyes out with a spork slow. Perhaps a switch for stamina mode and one for yes, I'm alive mode.
WTF is it with intel and USB 3.0? Intel is really holding up a adoption by a lot of good equipment like new phones etc by not having USB 3.0 on board.
I have a netbook (MSI X-Slim 620, z510 cpu) and to be honest if it is super powerful and sucks my batteries dry while watching movies for an hour (watching movies for 4 hours right now) then I am not interested.
I gotta give em credit they are giving AMD a run for their money
i have grown to deeply hate the word "innovation"
I think Intel's Q1 includes Dec sales. Which would account for the record Windows 7 upgrade sales. Also with Pinetrail intel has increased their margin. That's one reason many hardware companies cannot make money in the sub $400 range netbook market.
