We'd heard through the grapevine that the engineers at Round Rock were working on a
number of slates to fill the
Streak lineup, but man, we didn't see this coming... at least not yet. A couple of images along with an internal Dell announcement landed on our virtual doorstep this fine morning, and lo and behold, it looks as if a 7-inch and 10-inch Streak tablet is on the horizon. But that's not all -- we learned that the "
coming soon" we heard earlier regarding the
Aero's release date on AT&T really means "June." Later this "summer," said phone will be joined by the Streak 5 (yeah, that's the
Mini 5 we've had for months now) for those who prefer a more capable mobile. As for the 7-inch Streak? Look for it to launch (presumably with or without AT&T support) late in 2010, while a 10-inch flavor follows in "early 2011." Is
Sidetalkin' really about to return? We're ready --
so ready.
Update: Dell hit us up with a totally corporate line when we dug deeper for details:
"Dell continually develops and tests new products that extend the mobile experience. We have not made any product announcements and do not comment on speculation, rumor or unannounced products."
So insightful.
@cc3d ... Hey genius. Apple runs the iTunes Store (world's largest media store by far) and Apple Online Store (one of the world's most popular online stores) on XServes.
Also you should talk to the various companies and universities who are using XServes as part of the distributed computing grid.
Just because you THINK you have a clue about how Macs are being used doesn't mean you do have a clue.
@taligent
Wow, a little drop in the data-center bucket. Apple uses X servers b/c they want to make them look necessary. 99.99% of data centers DO NOT use x-servers and would not like to. Show me a business plan where somebody decides to build a data center with 10,000 X-Servers and you've found somebody that just wants to throw money away. I can't tell you where Macs are, but I know where they are NOT.
What academia uses has NO relation to the real world. None whatsoever. 9 out of 10 Phds I've worked with show are as practical as a bull with tits. Knowledge without application is useless.
Business use PCs b/c they're cheaper?! No shit Sherlock and because they fit into the enterprise model. If it made since to use Macs, enterprise business would use Macs. It's pretty simple.
I'm not going to argue this mac vs PC BS all night, b/c you mac fanboys are drinking koolaide 24/7.
Macs used to be unique. Then they changed the peripherals to PC peripherals, then they changed their processors to x86 standard, then their busses to AXT standards and now the only thing different is the O/S. This O/S is shipped ready to emulate the more capable O/S so that the Mac can run productivity software. If Apple decided to put Windows on their machines instead of OS X, the same group would gather around these magical and revolutionary machines because Apple uses a better grade of HDPE for their cases or uses better Chinese laborers for injection molding and can charge 300% markup for it?!?
@cc3d
What are you saying? Because what you think you are saying makes no sense.
I could care less for a Dell Tablet or the Dell AERO they both sucks. And my DELL PC SUCKS.
Why would they wait for "early 2011" for the 10 incher? By then iPad G2 will be out and all of America will line up for it
@WillSmith
Indeed. Once again (no fanboyism intended), Apple has shown that you need to be daring to get ahead. Rumors of an Apple tablets had been going around for ages, yet Dell waited for the actual iPad release to get their ass in gear... Too little too late, I'm afraid.
I want one!
im waiting on a tablet with either Android or Chrome. As long as it's feature packed and a good build quality, I don't really care who builds it.
For my needs, I need at least a 10 inch screen. 5 inches would be uncomfortably big for a cell phone and 7 would be a little to small to enjoy viewing movies and tv shows.
10-15 inch tables
PLEASE
@Stone632 Tablets are meant to be portable. 15" tablets will be to big and heavy to hold in your hands for 90minutes (average movie) or longer anyway. You better get a 15" laptop then.
@MaTdg
I appreciate your opinion. But as you can see from my post, I said " FOR MY NEEDS ".
You obviously have different needs.
I want a tablet that is AT LEAST 10 inches, preferably bigger. I already have a sony desktop, a 15 inch dell lap top, a 10 inch acer netbook, a droid and a nexus one.
ALL I WANT IS A TABLET THAT MAKES VIEWING MEDIA CONTENT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE.
You let me worry about how im going to lug around an 11 inch tablet.
@Stone632 I think our needs might be more similar than you think. I also don't like to watch movies on a small screen. But imho even 15" is to small for watching movies. That's why 1080p playback and HDMI-out are 2 of my demands for my ideal tablet.
Maybe i missed it, but what is it running on? Android?
Hey, I was just thinking out loud, trying to visualize if the lack of a bezel would make it harder to hold/operate or not.
And 'Iphone' is a correct way to write it. I can't remember a rule in gramar where only the second letter should be capitalized.
@espentan You probably NEVER heard about trademarks or other companies.. like eBay?
Trademarks? Companies?
I'm just being difficult. I know what you mean and I agree. But, grammatically, there's nothing wrong with "Iphone" :)
@espentan 'But, grammatically, there's nothing wrong with "Iphone" '
You mean, other than the fact that it doesn't spell anything. Particularly is the age of Google, marketing needs to make up words to get recognized. They also take the liberty to put capital letters anywhere they want.
I am not sure I have a use for any tablet..
Lve, Dr. BuzzKill
I personally do not like the brand Dell, I prefer Apple. But even so, the streak is IMO, work better for a working professional like myself than an IPAD. Can't be bothered by the brand now.Function come first.
I Love to have a functional IPAD for work, and I've been waiting for it even since it was rumored, I refrained myself from buying any computing device,thinking that it could probably be the only thing that I carry around to work, but it turn out to be just a hyped crapped gadget for Jobs to scam and rob his fan-boys, its merely an over-sized Ipod-touch, but he shamelessly use the word 'evolutionary'! But streak5 or 7 could let me do much more, customize more,more pocket-able, and its an open-platform and really-really near-full-blown OS. Make much more sense to carry this Streak than an oversized IPOD-touch. I know there will eventually be a functional IPAD G3 or G4 with full OSX, but not before Jobs milk all his fanboys.
well isn't this good news for apple haters
This is great! Apple should have a competition with their iPad and we shall see who the best tablet and I'm excited to hear feedbacks of this tablets. http://www.dreamwalkmobile.com/
Looks like the iPad with a Dell Logo at the bottom.. I wonder what OS will they be using?
Windows 7, Windows 7 Mobile, Linux or Android?
Fuck!!! i hate apple but the ipad is not a phone that fits in the palm of your hand!!! its just a massive ipod touch but with alot better specs and tweaked software.
These seem like real Ipad rival. Really sexy.
The Bezel question didn't seem to me like an unreasonable one. After all, Notion Ink's Adam seems to do all right w/out much of one.
Even on the HP Slate, the bezel didn't distract, the way it did here.
Nonetheless it's the performance that's really going to sell it. And after being blown away by what I've read/seen of the Mini 5, I'm definitely waiting for more info.
I only read the first two pages of comments. Everything has to turn into an apple war. Can't we just talk about the merits or problems of this product and not start a huge war?
Anyone who has lived for a little while probably remembers "Dude, you're getting a Dell!" which I think was a pretty successful ad campaign. They are certainly a reputable computer company.
These look like nice products but I'm more excited about seeing if their netbook/smartbooks ever surface that were also recently leaked/rumored.
