Motorola's
Devour has somehow managed to get a little lost in the mix, primarily due to the wealth of
Android options on America's two main CDMA carriers right now. The design is certainly appealing, particularly to those still averse to virtual keyboards, but it's the
Blur user interface that really sets this apart from the
Droid. Of course, we didn't exactly find a whole lot to love about the total package (compared to the other Android options, anyway), but that's not to say there's nothing to discuss. On the contrary, actually. Did you plop down a crisp Benjamin to get yourself a Devour? Are you still happy with the decision? How's Blur been treating you? Would you retool any of the hardware / software aspects? Get honest down in comments below, and yes, feel free to consider this the group therapy you've thus far refused to pay good money for.
For it to have been merged with the Droid in development. Devour keyboard on the Droid=Win.
@Apeman96 I actually made a similar statement earlier today. The keyboard definitely looks more simple and usable.
little more of that sexiness would be nice. Perhaps making it thinner and giving it more internal memory?
@Apeman96 I'm not a fan of the circle moto logo and the square optical trackpad being so large and prominent on the front face. Looks silly IMO
@bati555
Or perhaps put it on a horse and make sure it doesn't smell like a lady
@Apeman96 see, i dont think the keyboard should be the same, but with all that room, it should definately be more 3d chiclet style keys forsherious
@emopoops
Think about the screen! It could be bigger on this thing.
@Apeman96
DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOID
DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOID!
@Lord Vador These aren't the droids you're looking for.....
@Pusta
totally awesome. couldn;t of said it better myself or with C3PO translating my twisted thoughts. You win today.
@Lord Vador
Red Leader Standing By
@Apeman96 Perhaps, fix its thick bezel coz it does bulge, upgrade its specs but still maintain the price. Now that would be sweet. First reaction. http://j.mp/motorola-devour-first-view
@Apeman96 make it have 8 megapixels and a red outline.
@Lord Vador. THAT"S AN IMPOSTER! MY NAME IS LORD VADER! HIS IS LORD VADOR! HAVE HIM ERRADICATED IMMEDIATLY!
@Lord Vador We can see under your disguise, Rebel!
@Apeman96
I would have never let it experience the misery of being born.
@HotDog
mustard is yellow...
@AppleDrank
More screen space, less random room
I'd give it a huge screen and call it the Evo....oh wait.....
@Waltah the evo has got to be THE best Android phone on the market.
@richardsoper To bad it's not yet on the market. (I do agree with you tho, when released this summer it will be the best Android phone on the market. It might be the best phone period on the market)
@richardsoper
except for the fact that it's not on the market....
@Waltah
agreed... it needs to grow up. Evo all the way.
@angermeans Am I missing something about the EVO? What's so cool about it other than the 4G? The Droid Incredible has better specs in some categories. If T-Mobile would get the Galaxy S (as has been rumored) or some version of the HD2 w/ Android with HSPA+, it'll be faster than 4G.
@angermeans
evo + Physical keyboard and I am on the wagon
small screen low res screen
@AppleDrank
now that's a true statement.
Make it an EVO with keyboard!
@TimeForTheFairTax Exactly!
Bigger screen, sense UI, and preloaded naked pictures of Megan fox
@WillSmith Damn! i gotta get me one oh deez!
NO Blur, larger screen, faster processor, more tactile keyboard. I really like the case material used, it feels VERY sturdy and the slider mechanism is much better than the droid's.
@New Reformation couldnt have said it better myself!
@New Reformation That's because the Droid doesn't have a slider mechanism; I love that about it. It doesn't spring/pop/whateverthehellyouwanttocallit open and there's less there to break.
@Waltah
What about brown mustard?
@New Reformation
touche...and well played, sir.
The fact that it has a keyboard is a HUGE plus, but not big enough to compensate for the horrible design. Give it some curves for pete's sake... it's gonna be living in someone's pocket after all.
Also, I believe it has sub-par specs for a phone that came out about the same time as the N1 was introduced for TMo.
Put the Devour's keyboard on the Incredible and I would be a happy camper.
"still averse to virtual keyboards..." ? Physical keyboards aren't going anywhere. You lose precious screen real estate with virtual keyboards, and typing on flat glass will never be as good as using physical buttons.
@MEAT
I find software keyboards faster to type on.
@n8equalsd
perhaps, perhaps not. The slide style keyboards are certainly promising a lot these days. Swype, slideIT, and shapewriter all make one hand typing much faster. Time will tell if it is actually and improvement though. One still has to look at the keyboard to make them work.
For my money the best keyboard ever put on a hand held was the one on the Psion 5 way back in the 90's. You could actually touch type on the the thing with a bit of practice if your knuckles weren't too thick. I could do 60wpm on it. We'll likely never see one of those again though.
@n8equalsd
same. i type 62wpm on my iphone.
@MEAT The debate between physical/virtual QWERTY keypads pretty much boils down to personal preference. I don't think either one will be going away because they both have their pros and cons and they both sell. I prefer physical myself, but I've also never used an all-touch phone long enough to give it a fair comparison. I've only used the demo units in stores.
@Dr Spaceman you should be able to handily break that world record then. The psion doesn't count for since its really a tiny tiny laptop keyboard.
@Dr Spaceman
Official Guinness sentence:
"The razor-toothed pirahnas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality, they seldom attack a human." = 137 characters, or 27.4 words.
World record for texting this sentence: 37.28 seconds. Words-per-minute: 44wpm.
No way does anyone type 62wpm on a phone.
@Ladna depends on what you're typing. Using a terminal with auto completion (even Fitz noncompliant Swype) is difficult, it might be usable if it could read the autocomplete list from bash or zsh out of band though.
Get the good points of this phone [sexy machined aluminum chassis, good keyboard] plus the good points of the Droid [higher res screen, thin] with some modern touches [snapdragon, oled] and you could have a winner that might take my eyes away from the nexus one/incredible
Remove Blur and kick it up to Android 2.1. I still wouldn't buy one though. It's not enough of an upgrade from my G1.
nude pics of megan fox please. thene everyone would want his phone :D
@Alexpeegs
Even people who don't like to objectify women?
