Not do much spare room. The small space on the side near the board is where the 3G/GPS module sits, and due to the curvature of the back case the space around the edges is needed. The Macbook Air is the same this way.
well I guess they must be really brave to tear down an ipad.

If you have an iPhone, get iMotion, it's a very cool little stop motion app ($1 now, but free from time to time).
As an iPad owner, it really is a bit frustrating to see just how much interior room has gone to waste in a device that lacks a built-in media card reader or web camera.
Oh Well... Maybe next generation?
@DaHarder Of course. They need to leave reasons for you to buy it a second (and third or fourth?) time, but for a higher price.

seems to me that apple has a habit of leaving useful things out like microsd slots and cameras on many of their devices. The camera bit doesn't make sense to me but the fact that they don't include a media slot means you can give apple an extra $100 to get an extra 16 gb of space instead of another company $35 to have the same effect.
@DaHarder and you'll probably buy it. Just like apple wants you to, hence why they didn't add that stuff.
