Android ported to iPhone?
If you're a diehard iPhone user waiting for a similarly-gorgeous Android phone before you jump ship, you could spend time pining for a new HTC or Dell. Then again, the Droid you've been looking for might be right under your nose. Intrepid Linux fan planetbeing claims to have ported a debug version of Android to the iPhone itself, drivers and all, and you'll find a thoroughly convincing demonstration of his bona fide dual-booting Apple device taking calls, playing music and even surfing the web after the break. While the iPhone isn't the speediest Google phone around, it's not all that sluggish, either, and with the iPhone's hardware buttons remapped to Android controls, planetbeing seems to get along just fine. Now, let's see him work on some pinch-to-zoom, eh? Video after the break.

"there's an app for that..."
I might actually convert to android. Android is starting to look very attracting. :)
Wow that guy is filming an iPhone with an iPhone.
This is amazing possible to make it boot the turn by turn from android and thats it? I wonder.
Finally an iPhone that multitasks!
@Snarf101 hi I'm just heading down to the store, I was wondering if you needed anything to furnish that rock you're living under...
@Snarf101 Umm.... iPhone has always multitasks. The thing is that it only multitasks with it's default apps. The 3rd party apps did not have access to the multitasking feature. Android only tells you what you want to hear and not the actual truth. They want to sell their platform so yeah they're going to tell you the iPhone can't multitask. Also, in case you didn't know iPhone OS 4.0 allows all apps including 3rd party, to multitask.
Finally A decent looking OS on an iPhone :)
Wow. This is the most intriguing post I have seen in a very long time. I don't like Apple's Mo but if the hardware can dual boot say iphone AND Palm WebOS then I would have to give serious consideration towards the hardware at least.... But no gesture area of course.... Well..... hmmmm..
How much you want to bet the next iPhone OS update closes this security hole?
Just like Apple kept denying Palm access to iTunes.
@Johnny Rockets Maybe Palm shouldn't have broken the USB spec by spoofing device ID's.
Maybe Palm should work on their own sync software like other companies do and not pretend to be an iPod.
That iPhone now feels all dirty and ashamed, from having something 'capable' of porn running on it.
@sqij Safari and Quicktime run porn, no problems there are plenty of sites catering to all tastes, available for iPhones.
Movies, photo's and whatever else you want can be imported into iTunes and synced.
I'm just wondering if you deliberately choose to display such ignorance or if it's inbred.
@hill60 Well, in time, I'm sure Mr Jobs will find a way to filter such 'tastes' from Safari, and possibly your iTunes sync. We can only hope Mr Jobs can finish what he's started.
@sqij The fact that it had Android on it made it feel dirty to begin with. I'd be ashamed if i had that running on my phone.
@hill60 Actually, he is not displaying such ignorance, but more of comical relief. Android fanboys were the first to cast that "porn" nonsense on iPhone users. They claimed iPhones are only good for porn and that's the only reason why people use them. And now look, android has an app specifically for porn and it's widely known that they have no boundaries when it comes to that. So this is going right back at you guys.
@techi25
What android app is specifically for porn?
But can it go to the Android Market and get these?

I cant wait to see it run on an iPhone 3G or 3GS
Many have completely missed the point ("I don't want it", "why is it running 1.5", "I'm going with the Evo 4G", "this is not what I want to see. ...put it on a one button device?"). First of all, planetbeing is not asking you to buy it. Secondly, it is not to compete with a factory made product. Thirdly, it is much easier to criticize or dismiss than to do something (said is easier than done). It is about hacking, and hacking is about "because I can". Geeks might see it as a cool creation, and the rest do not have to have a reaction, but if you do, at least try to understand the point of it. I bet most of those who posted dismissing remarks don't even have a technical background to understand what is involved in reverse engineering software and hardware.
Like one saying I can't forget "opinion is like asshole, everybody seems to have one".
shinigami + hollow = vizard
iPhone + Android = ????
@terrence1019 idroid?
This is the first step to the end of the world. Windows 10 on PS1 anyone?
Someone should add to this video, a clip of the Locutus scene from TNG, "Best of Both Worlds Part 1". ""I am Locutus...of Borg. Resistance...is futile. Your life, as it has been...is over. From this time forward...you will service...us." Dramatic music and the "To Be Continued....."
You can watch porn on the iPhone anway?
I'd know
Yay! But does this work on the iPod Touch 1g? If not, then Android for the iPod Touch 1g!
Who has tested this? Does it allow you enable disk mode?
Good job, but i wouldn't install this, too much pain in the ass for what ever functionality Android has over the Iphone OS. Then every update Apple gives you breaks it or damages some functions. I imagine is like porting windows to a mac power pc!
I hear the bell tolling for Uncle Steve and Co.
Android to iPhone = Android to iPod = Android to iPad = PWNED
Looks like Apple unofficially entered the Android business.
Port it to the iPad and I'd install it in a heartbeat.
Prepare to receive a letter from Steve Jobs demanding return of the phone.
Awesome, when will this becomming out for the iPhone 3G..? And if you do this does it give you flash and multitasking..? And also can apple do anything about it..? Does it give you the android app store or is it still apple..?
This will be great once iPhone 4 comes out
@sean600 But when iPhone 4 comes out, will there even be a need for Android OS on it?
@techi25 probably not just saying it would be interesting to see how it runs on updated hardware
@techi25
This would be great for the original 2G or first gen iTouch, since those wont be getting iPhoneOS updates anymore. So, yes, there would be a need for some people to have a nice alternative OS on those 3-year old, but hardware comparable to a G1/MyTouch, devices. This assumes no one can port the 3G's 4.0 firmware into a compatible format, which might be possible but we aren't 100% sure of that.
I'm very tempted to install this on my old 2G...
Does anybody know what Android-specific button is mapped to the iPhone's sleep/power button? That button on my phone doesn't work, so I want to know what I might not be able to use.
As a Hero user all I gotta say is if someone gets 2.1 on an iPhone before Sprint gets me my update I'll be pissed LOL
This boob left his phone number up for everyone too see....fail
He should code it where One long press is the call button, 2 shorter long presses is the end button, 2 clicks is the menu button, and one click is the home button.
Hah, i traded my iPhone for a Nexus one. Ill take Android 3.0 when it rolls around. BEST MOVE EVER.
hey hes asian!!!
I think it would be great if the finished version of this used part of the Archos media tablet's version of Android: 1.6 with onscreen menu, back, and home buttons.
