As far as touchscreen phones go, the hardware provides very little cues about innovation. They're essentially blank slates made interesting by the software it's running. Without a final build of OS 4.0, how can you definitely conclude that it's not innovative enough?
@SteveyAyo I like my iphone 3gs. Good phone. I'm sure my wife will like the phone when I give it to her, and get a Dell. Sorry Apple, no screen over 4" and no flash?
@SteveyAyo I feel you on the EVO and maybe Dell Thunder instead of Lightning (I can't approve of a mobile OS that still doesn't have copy/paste), but those won't be out until Q4 at earliest, and I'll have this iPhone in my hands in two months.
Apple deserves a little credit for releasing their hardware first (as much as I hate the iPad).
@ you guys, 1. I can conclude that iphone 4.0 isnt innovative considering they arent offering me anything new compared to what i have had for the least year with my jailbroken phone... and the jailbreakers seem to have implemented them much better 2. Exactly, im not buying an even smaller screen when i can get this thing and support flash, silverlight, xbox live and watch videos on a much larger screen... plus the iphone os is stale and boring 3. I can wait for winpho7 and ive seen the replacement they have in place for copy and paste and it seems legit, pretty much does everything ive used it for so well see about it. Sorry i cant give credit to a company for being the first to release hardware when... they arent the first (lenovo x220 and other tablet devices) and its completely useless in every way...
@Jack im not underestimating them in any way, im using one of their devices and my experience has been pretty terrible, ive used the razr, pearl 8100, BB 8900, pre for a week thanks to my friend, and now an iphone and by far the iphone has impressed me the least... Im just not a person who is obsessed with consumption and boring short games... sorry?
You put a lot of importance on "being first", which is stupid. Why does it matter if they were first as long as they're BETTER? Apple never claimed they made the first tablet. What they did is make a BETTER tablet. See how that works?
Nobody cares if you think iPhone OS 4 is "innovative" or not. It has plenty of new features, if you want to ignore those, whatever. You were obviously not going to get an iPhone anyway so who cares what you think? It's not going to stop the iPhone from continuing to outsell every other smartphone on the market.
I like how you call the iPhone OS "stale and boring". Is that how you describe things that work really well? Or does it need to have racing stripes painted on it for it to be interesting to you? You know, nobody cares if something is different just for the sake of being different... if it sucks. There's a reason the iPhone is continuing to increase sales by a LOT even though it's three years old, and it's not because it sucks.
Try making some arguments that actually make sense instead of being a fanboy.
@Jack fanboy of what? and i wasnt the one putting importance on first, i was explaining to the person above that putting out hardware first doesnt merit any credit for apple and NO they did not make a good tablet device, its by far the least functional tablet available... actually i wouldnt even call it a tablet, its just an oversized PMP
I already have os4 on my phone, its called jailbreaking, i have multitask, folders, background changing 4.0 is just apple stealing popular jailbreak utilities and calling it innovative, the only thing innovative about apple anymore is that they avoid getting in trouble for being such a massive monopoly
Id agree that no one cares about my opinion except for the fact that clearly you cared enough for responding to me, so i guess you yourself destroyed that argument just by typing it... thanks
The iphone just doesnt interest me having used one... i left the dumbphone market behind years ago and this breed of smartphone is becoming the new dumbphone in the face of EVOs, Lightnings, HD2s and other truly amazing devices
@Oghowie i was talking more winpho7 on the innovation front, they opted away from the never ending tile design and came up with a beautiful animated interface which i find much more appealing... The xbox live integration and cross platform gaming is great and while its hard to say what the future holds for the "smart linking" tech, if it plays out as well as they say id be alright with it... also WebOS was pretty damn nice too
@SteveyAyo I have an iPhone and an iPad... You know what I have found out most people that claim an iPhone or an iPad sucks have never used one. This is especially true for people that dislike the iPad. I have several friends that were hating on the iPad before it was released after I let them play with my for 30 minute they were loving it.
Regarding a jailbroken iPhone there is no way that you can say a jailbroken iPhone performs better then one without a jailbreak. A jailbroken iPhone is buggy and most non app store applications do weird things in common situations like receiving calls and text messages. Even some themes are buggy and mess up the phone... All of this and I haven't even talked about battery life. After most jailbreaks battery life goes down by 25% to 33%.
The only reason to jailbreak is to tether. If AT&T allowed this I don't think there is a real reason to jailbreak due to the negatives associated with jailbreaking.
@Jack I don't think anyone has underestimated Apple. I'm of the opinion that with this update Apple has certainly introduced some interesting ways to present functionality that already exists on other platforms (including jailbroken versions of their own device). They're actually playing catch up to a certain degree, although I do have to admit that the interface is incredibly smooth and sexy; a credit to their their development team. Will I get rid of my Milestone for it? Probably not. I love Android too much.

this is what i know about it... it makes me want and EVO 4g or Lightning that much more, Apple clearly cant keep up with real innovation

But you're definitely right: EVO 4G = PIMP

Yeah, keep underestimating Apple, since that's worked out so well for so many people.

@SteveyAyo I'm not sure what you consider real innovation? Reskinning Android / WM6? Higher res screens? Higher MP Cameras? Front Facing Cameras?
Most are incremental updates just like what the iPhone 4 will be doing. If you just don't like the iPhone OS, that's a different story.
