Secrets of the Chumby One: it can be turned into a 3G router
Need another reason to plop down a hundred bucks for a Chumby One? How about the fact that it can be turned into a 3G router without so much as a few minor tweaks? Of course, you'll also need a 3G USB modem, but the only other modifications required are a few changes to the Network Config settings, and a quick command in the drop-down console to configure the Chumby One as an access point. Add in a rechargeable battery and you've got a genuine MiFi alternative -- albeit perhaps the bulkiest one ever, which may or may not last for more than an hour. Hit up the link below for the complete details.

cool, but why? Just use your computer or cell phone
@Concept Artist
Funny. "For more money, and more effort (assuming you code), in a clumsier package that you'll need a backpack for, you can have less utility!" Geekery at its finest.
:-)
/*insert something awkward here*/ "they blew it..."
If they use that 'meem' in a non apple post, they blew it.
@Evan
If they spell Meme wrong, they blew it
@mikmik111
Yawn...more like engadget blew it with a lame article :P
Title sounds like some sort of bad Kung Fu movie. Nice value added option though, wonder how many concurrent devices it can support as an AP?
netbook sez "anything you can do, I can do better, I can do everything better than you."
It would be great if it supported mesh networking.
Finally, a use for a chumby.
@DanH Oh you said chumby, not chubby.....nevermind.....
Yeah I never understood the point of wasting money on a Chumby, but this could possibly be nice for man in the middle attacks if you could strap a battery pack to the chumby.
Would this work with a 4G USB modem?
@mykalt45 No reason it wouldn't.
Why wouldn't you just buy the MiFi for $50 from Verizon? Save you the money for a Chumby, get real support, and have a better (still not great) battery life that can be charged from any USB port?
This is pointless. I can't see any reason to do this... haha
Any decent smartphone can be set up as a wireless router, transfering 3g goodness into the easily digestable Wifi. Much better and more appropriate than the Chumby (which I have and love).
