MSI launches Radeon HD 545V-boasting CX705MX laptop
MSI's just outed a new 17.5-inch (1600x900 resolution) laptop, the beautifully named CX705MX. This one's got an Intel Core 2 Duo under the hood, an up to 500GB hard drive, a 4-in-1 card reader, HDMI and VGA output, three USB ports and an Ethernet port and Windows 7 Home Premium. Most notably, of course, is that it's packing ATI's brand new Radeon HD 545V discrete graphics chipset, giving this bad boy HD video capabilities. We don't have specific information about availability or pricing yet, but we'll let you know when we do.
Taipei-MSI recently added the CX705MX, a supersized 17.3" laptop equipped with the ATi Radeon HD 545V discrete graphics card, to its Classic notebook computer series. It is clad in color film print (with MSI's exclusive classy cross hatch design) for extra protection against scratches and wear. The 45-degree beveled edge construction is unique to MSI. Mobile computing was never so classy.
MSI Marketing Director Sam Chern points out that the CX705MX comes equipped with the ATi Radeon HD 545V discrete graphics card for excellent multimedia performance and that, despite the oversized screen, this notebook is a lightweight, tipping the scales at less than 3kg. Add to that the stylishly elegant body, graced with MSI's own cross hatch design, the CX705MX allows you and your friends to enjoy an audio/visual feast whenever and wherever you like.

Am I missing something?
@Spaldinggreat You and me both. I don't know anything about the 545v but everything else seems like last years tech. Also, they didn't mention the subwoofer which is something that actually sets this rig, slightly, apart. Name a price of under 500 and I might listen, without it I feel like I came here just to read a comment like yours.
@Spaldinggreat Would be great if it has an augmented screen. Opinions*. http://j.mp/msi-cx705mx-impressions
'Intel Core 2 Duo'?? I thought the latest and greatest laptop CPUs these days are Core I5 and I7. This is a huge laptop, where is the big powerful powerful CPU for it?
@mukatuna
Core 2 Duos are powerful dude, benchmarked against one another the core i5 doesn't pull that far ahead...
It's cheaper with core 2's and it's not like it's a gaming laptop anyway...the biggest workhorse it needs is playback, and it's got it's bases covered with the new Radion chipsets.
.
@Bakerdk But isn't the powerdraw lower on the i5 and i7, also, AFAIK the price/performance is better in the i5. As the c2d also get more outdated their prices are also getting higher, much like what happens with graphics cards after they stop getting produced even if something newer that is better comes out at the same or a cheaper price point.
@juanvaldez
I'm curious about this. Which products increase in value over time? I understand you said some GPUs, but which ones, specifically?
17.5 in and it can't do 1880p?!!!
It ain't HD if it ain't 1080p. It's not like it would be a hard feat...
Hmmmm...
.
@Bakerdk
Actually, It would be HD if it weren't 1080p. The HD standard these days is 720p. 1080p is just considered "Full HD"
WTF is Radeon HD 545v?
@Dahis
It's a misprint. It has to be :/
@Dahis Rebranded Radeon HD 4550
Dont most onboard graphics chips give you HD video capabilities??
"...giving this bad boy HD video capabilities"
Was thinking of buy MSI laptop but they missing 2 key features that I really like. It doesn't have back-lite keyboard and the chiclet Keyboard. Otherwise I've would of got one.
@cdf74dc9 Perhaps you've already bought or meant you were considering this. This says it'll have a chiclet in the press release, nothing on backlit keyboard though. You know what it will have though? Stickers.
a 17.5" 1600x900 panel.

What's going on Engadget ? Don't publish these craps please. :(
If this POC costs more than $600 when it drops it'll be a ripoff. Actually if it costs more than the box it ships in ...
I'd buy one for $450 right now.
Pretty sure I can get a NIB HP HDX18 with 1920x1080, a Q9000 and 9800GT for cheaper than this.
