this is exactly what i said would happen if they announced the 3ds, its too early for another portable. but its just right for another home console. give the people something more advanced at a similar price point to the wii and offers more compatibility with the more advanced game engines, people will snatch it up and they wont stop buying the wii. people are going to stop buying fully viable handhelds because they are releasing bigger models of the same thing.
@Aceyriot It's definitely not too early for a new handheld. The DS is going to be 6 years old this summer! In fact, there are no new DS games on my radar at all right now, though that may change during E3. The DS is an old system, and a new DS is definitely something that would excite me.
The Wii is only becoming a 4 year old console this November. There's still Metroid: Other M and the new Zelda coming out, plus we have no idea what Nintendo has up their sleeves beyond that. We still don't know anything about the Wii's Vitality Sensor, though I don't have high hopes for that device, but you never know, it could be the next best thing for Nintendo. The Wii has a lot of life left in it, but it's all up to developers to push its potential.
The new FiOS HD DVR, arguably the biggest update since Verizon released a DVR, thanks to its external storage support, enhanced multi-room functionality and slick new 16x9 HD user interface.
