I thought the Newton ad was superior because the product was so much more for it's time and it doesn't come across as something Steve Jobs would say.
The former created the PDA market. I think it had a pretty indelible mark of its own.

You know you and all people like you need to stop this "hater this" "hater that" shit, honestly it gets tiring. I'm tired of people calling others Apple Hater or iPad hater simply because they don't like the product, I may not think the iPad is useful or the iPad is the best thing in the world but that doesn't mean its going to fail.
Why cant someone have an opinion about a product or company without being deemed a "hater"
I think the iPhone is over-hyped, does that mean I hate it? No, its just too over-hyped for its own good.

Newton is magic. So, apple was already obsessed with these inappropriate superlatives before jobs came back and turned apple into the ipod company.
Funny side note, jobs cancelled newton in '98 when he came back.

Funnier sidenote... Apple incorporated PDA features + a gorgeous touchscreen interface into the iPhone like 10 years later when Palm, the PDA ppl, were all but dead.

@n8equalsd he's got a point though. iPhones pull chicks like you wouldn't believe! As a matter of fact there's one hanging off me now saying "stop posting on that site" and "take your pants off" and "do me with your multi-touch"
Goes to show how much things have changed in nearly 20 years. While the ads look similar, the Newton ad had a more ambitious tone, and it's that ambition that helped cause its downfall. Palm chose to have a more limited device that did a few things well and it succeeded for nearly a decade. Apple then made its own limited, well-conceived device in the iPod, the rest is history. Tablets and MIDs have languished for years until Apple released the iPad. There's a business lesson in there somewhere.

Does anyone know the name of the piano/sheet music app around 0:11-0:14 in the iPad commercial? Looks nice, but I can't find it!

It's real easy, if you have actual criticisms of the device (too expensive, ugly design, not my cup of tea) no one will bother you, but if your posts are crackling with anger and the fury of a closeted Windows Gamer with a sad pathetic childhood of taunting Mac users for this and that, and you just resent Apple's success (see: any Apple Financial Results post on this blog for examples), you deserve to be labeled a Hater.
If you Hate Apple for their success, you are a Hater. If you buy a competing product out of SPITE, and not because you actually like the product more, you are a HATER.

@raichu06 Yeah it is but I kind of wish it wouldn't print. It's time everyone finally left all the needless printing behind and really used all these internet connected computer things we have everywhere.

Why do people repeat this as though it's a bad thing. The iPad with it's larger screen real-estate, power, battery is much much more than an iPod Touch, but lets entertain this for a sec:
Are you saying the iPad is like a company trying to sell an overgrown Ford Pinto to consumers with all its defects and failings? The iPod Touch is hugely successful device so again if it was just an overgrown iPod Touch, why is this a negative?
@dave95 listen man i do want an ipad but it is a giant ipod touch and nothing more, i already have an iphone 3gd and i would like to own a tablet but i am sure that i aint the only one who thinks that at least ONE USB port or a Flash memory slot is necessary for portable devices.

I understand that they are trying to pay an homage to their old Newton commercials, but the problem is that Android already copied their commercial so now this seems like Apple is imitating the "Droid Does" commercials.
Same voice, similar presentation. Watch the "Droid Does" commercial and then watch this.

Love my newtons have 2 a 100 and 130, and I still think it has a lot features that are way ahead of any other devise out there..even the iphone or the ipad....I miss the digital assistant, I wish apple would implement it in the iphone OS

Who the heck rides pillion on a scooter while holding a naked iPad in one hand? That's just unsafe, for both the iPad and the rider!
