Yeah, because you are going to be using the box instead of the phone. Who gives a crap? The box looks to be very eco friendly and easily recyclable. If you want a purddy box, wrap it up or something. Jeesh. It's a damn box. Get over it. It's what's INSIDE that counts!

The iPhone gets 5 stars as it comes with pretty box with glitter, while, the EVO even though super powerful, comes with an ugly anti-fashionista box.

easily recyclable? normal boxes are (thick) PAPER. just toss the whole thing in the blue bin. this thing looks like styrofoam, the least recyclable thing they could have chosen!

i did read it. Evo has lcd screen not OLED. it also comes with android which looks hacked together. You have to be joking to think its better than windows phone with xbox games, zune player (destroys android media player), IE (destroys that crap android browser), Office, etc.

You must have strange stryofoam where you come from..
Looks like that recycled moulded paper pulp stuff to me.
Breaks down quickly in landfill, no bleach, no polluting chemicals needed to produce, Just a mould and a hose to spray a thick layer of recycled pulp, and it dries to the shape that supports the object. Very common in the consumer electronics industry. Styrofoam and plastic inserts are a bit old fashioned these days.
Realistically.. Why bother with flashy packaging. The thing inside is the bit that you are buying. Packaging is just something to get rid of.
And sorry..But the iProduct packaging is not exactly a jewel encrusted hand made casket ofwonder.It's a cardboard box with a shiny plastic coating containing a vacuum formed plastic tray and the iProduct. Not even useful as a re purposed anything. And you know as well as I do, if Apple used the exact same packaging, they would be hailed as the greenest tree hugging wonderful company evar!!!!!

First, the the Android vs WP7 debate hasn't even started because WP7 has yet to come out (like dell lighting). Everything from the # of available apps to the psudo multitasking has yet to been really evaluated.
Second, just compare the specs. how can you say it's better? oh, cause it has an OLED instead of on LCD? The Evo has and an 8mp camera vs 5mp. It has a front facing camera on top of that. dell has a smaller screen, yet it has lots of wasted black space above and below the screen.
Other than that it's pretty much the same. How in the world can you say it's better???
And don't get me wrong, I'm really excited to see WP7 come out and see what it can do. I also think the lighting looks pretty rad. But, to just say it's just flat out "better" is just stupid of you.

1. more megapixels on cameras do not equal better quality. then lens matters more than megapixels.

Go buy this cdma trash android phone. anyone who says android is revolutionary is extremely delusional. Android is just all over the damn place. It seems every cell maker has Android. And they abuse it to. Meaning they will not release,well not that fast, a new Android OS on a current phone because they want to save it for a new model. Just look at the shit in this article.
And if the Android was so fucking open source then any phone carrying Android's OS should be readily available from Google.I would think!
But hell no!
That would fuck up the business of selling new phones.
So Android is really a gimmick used by the cell makers. You shouldn't have to wait for your cell provider to give you the latest Android OS.

@(Unverified) Even though you are paying for a phone, it shows how much a company cares about all the parts. It should be about the experience. When my hi-tech 4G phone comes in the same box as my eggs, that is very weird.

I had already preordered an EVO but now that I know what the box looks like I'm going to forego the downpayment and buy an iPad instead.

Well, that Samsung Galaxy S has a beautiful Super AMOLED display, great graphical and processing power, but it is not as powerful as the HTC EVO. By the way, the EVO also has a front camera and HD video out through HDMI adapter.
What I mean is that the Galaxy S is an excellent phone, more in the category of HTC Incredible and Desire, even that Dell Lightning, but not HTC EVO 4G.

@account5 : Does the Dell Lightning do 720p video? Does your Lightning have a front-facing camera? Does it have HDMI Out? And I've heard your input on 'oh, more mp doesn't mean better camera', but the Evo has 8MP and the Lightning has 5.
And dude, you're claiming a product which hasn't even been ANNOUNCED is better than one that already EXISTS. Once it gets a full review and is claimed to be better, I'll hand it to you. Till then,

@(Unverified) in that same space it takes for one evo to be shipped, you could fit 4 iPhones. So while the evo's packaging may not do harm as far as recycling goes, it will do harm in the number of phones can be transported at once. Apple does small packaging like that to waste less gas, apparently other companies don't. And, yes, of course you can recycle Apple packaging.

HTC EVO has 8 MP camera, Front camera, HDMI out, able to connect to WiMAX 4G, and a very important thing: HTC EVO CAMERA DOES HAVE FLASH.
Samsung Galaxy S doesnt have any of what I mention above. Camera without flash? Come on Samsung. How can you take a good photo at night with no flash?

@Beatnik The Galaxy S does have a front facing camera, and it has a wireless protocol that can steam HD movies directly to your TV, no need to be tethered to the TV with HDMI.

two most important things are OS and network. This pos cdma android phone is on sprint. there couldnt be a worse os and network combo. android is HACKED TOGETHER. the ui is a joke....

I've heard rumors that the final version of the Galaxy S has flash, which would be great. But none of the things you mentioned has anything to do with how powerful the phone is.
When the Galaxy S is realeased, it's going to be the worlds fastest phone(well, if what samsung says is true), though the EVO has some other useful features. That said, samsung's phone is definitely in the same league as the EVO.
@account5 Wow. You just totally failed on that one. It has a TFT screen and 3G/4G technology. I would buy this over an iShat anyday
