ASUS makes EeePC 1015P and 1015PE official, endows them with 13.5 hours of battery life
It's hard to differentiate yourself in the netbook world nowadays -- pretty much every manufacturer is trudging along the same Pine Trail, with the same one, maybe two, gigabytes of RAM and 160GB to 320GB in storage. So ASUS, the original gangster of this sector, is aiming to wow consumers with a scintillating 13.5 hours of autonomous use courtesy of its 6-cell 63Wh battery pack. The EeePC 1015P and 1015PE differ only in aesthetics, with both sporting 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 screens and Atom N450 processors. No, that's not going to break any performance records, but if that longevity number proves true, we suspect there'll be plenty of eager buyers out there. Price and availability haven't yet been revealed, but ASUS doesn't usually keep us waiting so look out for these in the very near future.

So long,so good.
@kiwi32
That's what she said.
Damn it, I was just about to say that XD
@badtzwang Hahaha!
Seem's the 1015p is the best netbook out.
@CJisohsocool
Second thought. I wonder if it has room for an after-market Broadcom chip. Then it would be perfect :]
@CJisohsocool
I have a 1101HA and can't fathom why Asus won't release more 1366x768 11.6" models.
@CJisohsocool
Lol speaking of does any1 know where to get the newer version of the card, the BCM70015? It's not on ebay =\
Hell yeah! Now when will the 1018P and 1016P show up?
@briancam54 Seriously... between that and the 1218, they're killing me. Why can't they drop a date?
@briancam54
1215n, please. I've been waiting forever. Having May 13 come and go with no release date (as promised) was a downer.
ASUS Eee PC Seashell 1005PR-PU17-BK touts 11 hours but a 1366*768 screen. If they get the broadcom driver issues worked out it seems like a better prospect. I can sacrifice some time for a better screen.
Is it THAT hard to include a 1366x768 display? Sure, most of them are 11.6", but Sony and HP can manage that resolution at 10.1".
Dealbreaker.
@tocharius
I agree. 1366x768 10.1" screens should be more standard.
@Luffy
Meh 1366x768 is too big on that small of a screen. cant read anything.
@CJisohsocool
155ppi is not that small, and I prefer squinting to scrolling.
Reducing the bezel and making it 11.6 would also be a viable solution.
@CJisohsocool
Yup. 1024 x 768 would be a good starting point on a 10.1" screen
Who cares? When are they going to make the UL20at official already?
if i could buy one of these 10 inchers with ion and linux out of the box for under 400, i would cream myself
but i dont think nvidia is supporting graphics switching yet on linux :(
yes, great. Now where's the Eee PC 1218?
yawn X 100
Thirteen hours time is very impressive. View a few HD Flash videos and the time is probably halved. I suppose if you really need a small computer for doing emails and web surfing, it isn't such a bad deal. It might be junk, but if it does the job, then that should be sufficient.
@MosesusedaniPad I'm not sure that the Eee exactly excels as a device for HD flash video at the best of times...
@MosesusedaniPad
Yet it's still more practical than an iPad.
@MosesusedaniPad
More likely battery life will be halved by HTML5. After all, Flash at least uses hardware acceleration, and is more processor friendly than HTML5 in its current incarnation. If you're referring to flash performance on a mac, well that's an entirely different case of poorly performing worms.
I really hate engadget's trick of linking to other, mostly uninformative Engadget posts.
If so many of these Windows tablets are just netbooks with the keyboards cut off, why can't we get battery lives out of them that are even a third of this? Hell, I'd take the extra weight if you gave me a battery life of like 4 hours. That's about what my future laptop is gonna get.
so 13 hours is hella long.... what CANT a netbook do.
what will a buyer run into and say sweet Jebus this thing runs all day long but it won't do Hulu!
where is this rig gonna fall short for everyday use?
ASUS doesn't usually keep us waiting??? I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for the ASUS Eee PC 1005PEG with WiMAX.
asus ftw
Dear Asus,
I'm going to pull the trigger on an HP mini 210 unless you release this yesterday, if you know what I mean. Please don't disappoint.

Here's the thing about 13 hours..... Schools struggle to really integrate laptops into classrooms because the batteries run down. If every kid had a laptop then you'd need to have 30 laptops plugged in during most of your classes after second period.
Netbooks may not be ideal but they offer most of the needed functions in an affordable package and a 13 hour battery reduces the need for 30 outlets and power adapters!
