We haven't heard any tales of exploding batteries in quite some time, and we're sure that's in large part thanks to proactive battery recalls like the one HP has been running since about
this time last year. However, it's a little disconcerting that this recall keeps
getting expanded. For the second time a new group of laptops are being added to the pile, entries from the
Pavilion,
Compaq Presario, and other lines manufactured between August of 2007 and May of 2008. We have the complete chart included below. If you're included the bad news is that your aging laptop could explode and wipe out your entire neighborhood
at any moment. But, the good news is... free replacement battery!
"Dammit Cohagen, give these people the air!"
Shantanu Narayen: "Damnit Jobs, give these people Adobe AIR!"
@Leindurstit
I wish there was a rank above "Highest Rank" that I could give you.
My HP laptop(2007-2008) over heats like hell, it even semi burns my finger if its close to the fan. I'm scared to turn it on for more then 40 minutes, but I hope it wont "wipe out my neighborhood"
@SskyNnet: Laptop coolers FTW.
@Shadyman Buying a laptop that doesnt run at 1000 degrees ftw. ThinkPad X200 FTW.
I love Engadgets choice of images! So let's get to da choppa!
@Argot
Serious! My first thought was to give Engadget props for the reference... my second thought was "oh shit, I'm dating myself.."
What about the replacing the faulty nVidia 8400GS on the dv6500t!!! Or let me upgrade from 2GB to 4GB of RAM without random mobo crashes!!!
WORST. MODEL. EVER.
I hate myself for continuing to use it.
@TRAFFICBLOWS I'll second that! Mine crashed on me just a few months after the warranty ende and I found out it was the stupid faulty graphics card but my model wasn't even covered ! There customer service is also terrible !
I'll be back.
@alext
... but not as Governor of California.
It seems Arnold has taken his rightful place in the Emperor's seat. So be it. Hail Emperor Schwarzenegger.
Guys what's the of of this movie? :)
@HellFlyer It's Total Recall. Funny movie.
"Hey Benny, SCREW YOU!"
Best Picture Ever. Ok maybe not, but it made me laugh.
@LetsHaveWaffles That's Arnie taking a dump on California! LOL
That looks like my smile on my drivers license picture.
Man, I wish my Pavilion dv1000 would be listed on there. It has like 3 minutes of battery life on a charge.
And I thought getting the first gen of a new series of electronics was usually a bad thing.
By the way, it does affect some dv1000's ... just not mine. So, if you have a dv1000, you may want to check yours out.
Here's hoping for another recall soon. ;)
Great I get to check my batteries again. Missed out the first go round, wonder if this time I get to find out my laptop has a free fireball upgrade.
It's great that they can just swap batteries. Just wondering how any manufacturer with built in batteries in their products would be able to do that.
Would it take a Genius to figure that out?
@TRAFFICBLOWS And I thought I was the only one! My Pavilion dv6000 is a POS big time! What can I say about it? The screen cannot show black without going haywire! Forget about full screen movies. The screen will protest. The DVD has some type of mechanism that makes it the only computer in the world that can read what it burns on DVD, no other machine can read the DVDs without fanfare, cussing and a law passed by the government. It cannot burn a CD for it's life and worst of all, the drive seems to go on strike whenever it pleases. It had Vista, THE WORST OS ever made on 1gb of ram. Fortunately I had Ubuntu on as well, which saved my life when I had three papers to turn in to my professors at the University when Vista crashed continuously. I downgraded to XP just to regain my sanity. The service in Greece is worst than the government bureaucracies. In England it is hideous. The worst 740 euros I spent. I will never buy a laptop sold on the pile 'em high and sell 'em cheap pile and I will never buy a HP or Compaq computer ever again. I am waiting to get an ASUS 1215 or 1218 and to get rid of this computer before I go to the insane asylum.
Bummer missed the Free Batteries again, Got a B7W not a B7V :(
Eh, too bad my Compaq Presario v6000 series laptop failed when the chipset overheated. Never getting a HP product again.
great, my laptop is not included AGAIN and the battery can't even last through a night in sleep mode. now the graphics card is acting up, probably due to the same cause.
@onyxorca You can bet it's the same cause. If you've looked at HP's recall schedules in the past, they always go lot by lot, so it takes years to cover everyone.
Recall my nuts HP. recall my nuts.
