Alienware M11x getting Intel Core i3 / i5 / i7 upgrade next month, says Dell rep
Meet Pearce Clune, Dell's Head of Consumer Operations for Middle East, Africa, and Turkey. Clune's gone ahead and given a pretty brief demonstration of Alienware's laptop lineup to Shuffle Magazine, include the mighty impressive M11x powerhouse in netbook clothing. It's all pretty standard fare until about 2:20 into the video, where the fine gentleman casually drops that the Core 2 Duo processor is about to get a modern upgrade with Core i3, i5, and i7 options. That's right, a Core i7 processor in a 11-inch form factor. We'll let that sink in for a second. But don't just take our word for it -- video after the break. Now, is Optimus en route, too?

It be cool to have extra options when choosing CPUs (I wouldn't mind having the power hungry desktop iseries CPUs and sacrifice battery), maybe an ATI vs Nvidia vid card options
@Madmax333
I'd love the desktop i7 too, but, there would be an issue with heat; the laptop would be too small to allow for adequate cooling (even for a low end desktop i7) turning your shiny new laptop into an incinerator.
@Professor Hubert J Farnsworth Ahhh good point :( problem is I have a power source everywhere I just need mobility and a small form factor. Damn you impossibilities of life
i7 620LM probably.
I'll wait for it to be announced.
@d3sc3nd3ncy
most likley the i7-660UM listed in todays announcement of the new processors

My 17 inch ASUS G73 drives circles around these easily. 1920 x 1080, blu ray and a 5870 with 8gb ddr3 ram for $1600. I'll keep my G73 thanks!
@Soldier1969
true, but your ASUS weighs like 8 pounds and wont last 2 hours away from a power source.
it also weighs more, has a horrible battery life and costs 800 more than the base price of this. try harder next time

"Anything under 24" shouldn't even attempt 1080p give me a break."
Did you change your mind?
Idiot.
@Soldier1969
So? At that size you might as well carry around your X-Box in your backpack. While your at it why don't you mention how your desktop is faster than your smartphone.
I've been literally checking Engadget 2-3 times a day for the last 4 months for this news ....... now I don't know what to do !! :-|
Now I'll buy one.
@Auouywonz. Me too
So, err, it doubles as a mirror also?? Geezzz..
@CMA
basically, trying to take photos of the screen just results in taking a photo of whatever is in front of the screen, im glad i dont have any windows in my office or living room, because it would be a biatch!
Now all ti needs is 15 hour fast charging battery!
its about time they never should have put a culv in it. totally neutered it.
Dell always waits to pawn off their old technology before introducing whats new
Definitely been waiting for this upgrade!
It's computers like these that make me appreciate my MacBook Pro even more.
@Cold Dead Fingers
Prefers looks to performance. Yep, definitely an Apple fan.
@jon Nope, I prefer a a balanced computer. MacBook Pros are powerful and have great battery life. In fact, my 2009 MacBook Pro gets 8 hours of life, I love it.
@Cold Dead Fingers Cool let's go play crysis! ..... Oh... Wait.
@bwazy Ya, I don't like video games. I use my computer for real things, you know, video editing for family and friends, typing papers for school and learning how to play instruments (only guitar). But, have fun with your crysis, I would've loved it 7 years ago.
@Cold Dead Fingers
"I use my computer for real things...learning how to play instruments."
How is that any more real than playing video games? Also whats the point of criticizing a machine for not fitting your needs when it clearly wasn't built for other tasks?
I have the new 13" MBP but I certainly appreciate the specs and price of the m11x. But performance wise it's only mediocre at many of the tasks I need it for. You can argue balance all you want but both machines have their place.
@VisitorQ you tell him, is like my mom saying she doesnt like the Alienware because she uses her gateway for "real things" like spread sheets and surfing the web. lmao
you dont go buy a Ferrari and say it sucks because it doesn't get good mileage like your smart car
@VisitorQ Did you even read my response? First off, all that stuff I said was a knock at the guy "let's play crysis," not at the computer. The computer is, what, like 4 pounds? That's great weight for a laptop and especially for an alienware. I made a point, though, that I don't play games.
How is any of the stuff I mentioned more real? Well, when I edit video for family and friends I get paid for for it. So my Mac makes me money, I consider that to be a "real" reason to buy a computer. Typing papers is, too, really important, and another "real" reason to buy a computer. And, while, learning to play instruments, may not be as important as the other two, I just don't like to play video games. At least with a guitar I can be proud of having fun on my computer. If I were playing games all day, I don't think I could be proud.
@daewootech I was replying to the kid who said "let's play ." if you read his post, you'd know that he didn't even mention if he uses this computer, so, what's happened, here, doesn't equal to your ferrari metaphor. All I mentioned was that I like a balanced computer. Gotta learn to really read what people are saying.
Wow, an entire gig of graphics performance?
Awesomesauce!!!!!
True story... I filled out my cart, an alienware mx11 awaited me. I filled out a new Dell accound, got all my billing in and literally .5 secs before I clicked checkout my Internet crashed. One month later this news arrives! Thank you tehnology gods!
@Broderbund
Really the Envy 14? i personally think it's a toss up between that and the 4820TG(same spec as 3820TG with 14" screen). I'd pick 3820TG over both since it's like half a kilogram lighter. It's slightly heavier than the UL30JT
@nicholasphan
Sony Z seriously?? It's got a better screen, but 3820TG has better GPU(5650vs330m), better battery life, and a lot less heat issue, and it's about $700 cheaper than the low end Z model. That makes 3820TG clear winner for me.
AWWWWW that was the only deciding factor against the 11x for me was the lack of i7 processor option, thats why i went with the M15x which is ridiculously huge compared to my previous XPS M1330.
